Gamersyndrome's Dead Space 3 Review

Gamersyndrome's thoroughly unimpressed review of Dead Space 3. The review looks at how this latest installment stretches the otherwise winning Dead Space too thin and also how it relies upon featuring too much from the previous games.

Don't agree at all.

The game works well, plays well. 5.5 is comical.

Worst score this game could get is an 8.

I agree. I wasn't a big fan of the game when compared to the first 2 in the series but it's still a "good" game despite my issues with it and some very frustrating moments with a serious lack of horror in the game.

I would say an 8 is the highest it deserves and lowest would be a 7 but a 5.5 is unjustified. Not with a game at this caliber.

I don't get where this lack of horror is coming from? This is your third time facting the enemies in Dead Space 3, you know how to fight them now, of cousre they're not going to scare the hell out of you like they did in the first game.

I've found a lot of creepy and disturbing moments while playing 3 so far, especially the part where you see the Feeders for the first time, those things sent chills up my back. Especially since it's possible to sneak around them and use small objects to distract them, but if you miss one of them it's like holy cluster fuck.

You can use the same enemies its the atmosphere and use of your surroundings.

Where are the creepy and disturbing imagry?

For example in dead space 1 the scene where the female crew member is surgicly cutting the flesh off of a living patient enforce slitting her throat? Or a decomposed corps still conciouse but insane banging his head off a wall? Or the faint whispers of voices in the background either singing twinkle twinkle little star or voices in Iisacs head? The blind female crew member holding and talking to a torso as if the person it belonged to was still there before she blows her own head off? Or the tentacle that grabs you and tries to pull you through a corridor and you frantically shoot at it to get it to let you go?

How about dead space 2 where a doctor transform into a necromorph right in front of a vest strapped Iisac who has to run past a necromorph infested alysum without the use of his hands? Or a crazy patient removing Elies eye with a screw driver? Or a doctor slowly slitting his own throat right in front of you? Or a nursery infested with necromorph babies that explode?

There is nothing in dead space 3 that brings anything near that level of horror. It's always high octane music beats and constant shooting. It's all action and no horror. Stuck in a small room with a bunch of necromorphs isn't scary. It's frantic.

To even think that there is any horror in dead space 3 tells me either you never played dead space 1 and 2 or you forgot what it was like to play them.

Dead space 1 was the pinochle of 3rd person horror this gen which lost its way because devs wanted to cater to a broader audiance.

Well, there were several people committing suicide throughout the entire game. Markers written in blood, mass executions, etc. You're seeing the aftermath of a 200 year old tragedy. There's not a lot of fresh meat.

Bimkoblerutso4088d ago

Yeah, it's not quite on the level as the previous two, especially from a horror perspective, but it's still a good action game. The exceedingly low scores seem a little over reactive.

Tbh, Dead Space 3 deserves a solid 8 at the very least. A 5.5 is just offensive since the reviewer clearly doesn't know what a 5.5 game is really like.

B.S. Review! Hating on a game because EA is Greedy is foul all to itself. The game is good and I wish someone else was in charge of it so it would get its do respect.

Why Dead Space 3 Will Be the Hardest to Remake

If EA and Motive Studio plan on remaking all the main Dead Space entries, they have to change a lot of what made Dead Space 3 so divisive.

Simple, do not bother with a Dead Space 3 remake. Rather have a new entry for Dead Space.

myfathersbastard408d ago

Yeah I agree. Make a dead space 3, but have an original story/setting. They’ve proven they can do the game justice, and I think they could evolve 2 in a good direction, keeping a similar tone. I’d love s Dead Space 2 and 3 though. The remake was fantastic. Top tier remake, up there with RE2.

jznrpg408d ago

Remaking 3 would need to be a reworked and somewhat changed remake as 3 was flawed in most peoples eyes and the worst entry.

Ninver408d ago

It's the worst in the series.

Dead Space 3, A Ten Year Reunion

WTMG's Kyle Nicol:

"Was Dead Space 3 really that bad?

Well, it’s a complicated question. Dead Space 3 is undeniably the weakest of the trilogy. It’s a game that deviates so far from the original formula, that it throws a lot of what made Dead Space special in the first place out of the window. Although, where it does make up for it is one of the best cooperative shooters on the market, even after all this time. Do I recommend playing this game ten years later? Hell yes. But make sure your expectations are in the right place. It has a lot of problems that bring it down."

They need to seriously continue this ip with a new entry. Even if it's just another movie I don't care I love everything about this game.
