Japanese newspaper claims PS4 will cost over 40,000 yen, releasing this year

That's around $430/£300, although obviously different taxes and local laws will make the price wildly different. I can't imagine it being less than £399 here in the UK.

Which isn't TOO bad a price, considering that the Wii U was £350 for the ZombiU pack. If this turns out to be true and the machine can do a quarter of the things it's supposed to be able to do, this might do surprisingly well.

With that said - people will STILL want a price cut with the first fortnight...

Hell, they could sweeten it even more by adding a LTE receiver to the unit and letting people subsidize with a cell plan. for about 2 years I've been saying the sweet spot for a new PS4 will be $450.

I for one would not to lose ALL of my PS3 games. Also when PS4 comes out you wont get nearly as much for your PS3 as you would right now let alone the games. The games will go for next to nothing UNLESS you do it on like craigslist or something like that you would get some extra cash that way. Check and see what your local Gamestop is buying PS3s for right now and subtract 35-45% off what you will get around PS4 launch.

There's no point in worrying about this. Sony learned from the PS3 that they probably shouldn't have released the PS3 for $600. That was like double the price a lot of people were expecting. Although I think they'll finally pass Xbox with their sales this year looking at all the awesome titles they have lined up.

And I really hope the online is free again. That's why I used to love Battlenet. That's why i love PS3. Free online. No required subscription, but an Optional subscription is totally cool.

I hope it's powerful and has the staying power of the PS3 so I won't complain about a price. Whatever they need to do. Just make sure it is reliable and powerful enough to last a long time if it will be expensive so you get value over time. What i mean is please no RROD issues next gen please. Build them to last again like the PS3.

That is correct here in the EU Ps3's bundles only a few months ago where priced at £250 to £280 on average , new console's usually hit £350 to £399 until about a year for bundle's and £299 and up for the console by it's self . My plan of attack is to preorder both the Xbox and Playstation as soon as they are available for preorder and pay them off slowly up until launch. I did that with my R2D2 Xbox 360 and it worked out great. Would toss in an extra 20-50 bucks here and there whenever I got a new game and by the time it was available, I already had it paid off.

Even $500 would be a good starting price and a great deal when you compare it to how much a ipad is. I've always had trouble figuring out what makes the iPad's price so unbelievable. As Steve Jobs put it, "the iPad is the best option if you're looking for something between a phone and a laptop." I think sony will not over price themselves as that may lead other gamers to lower priced competing consoles. History would absolutely rear it's ugly head if they where to price the ps4 over $500 dollars. I believe gamers are going to be pleasantly surprised at sony's aggressive and appealing price points for their next console. How can a $399 ps4 last 6 to 7 years into the future it will be shit and out of date before ut hits the shelves I dont know why people saying that is about right when they go out and buy a $800 iPad

And I forgot my Sony experia s was alot more than that at launch the ps4 needs to cost more than a phone or iam not buying it

Yeah, I'm guessing $399.99. Still a pretty good deal for the rumoured specs.

In the last few years I've come to realize that the money I save using Steam has facilitated a regular stream of PC upgrades without ever exceeding my gaming budget. In fact I've gotten a lot more for the same amount. So I'll be buying a new card for under $300 and be ready for the next-gen to catch up.

I haven't written off the possibility of a new console next year but they (Sony and Microsoft both) will have to bring more to the table than just new hardware and a few impressive exclusives to convince me that it's a valuable proposition compared to the on-going savings I expect from Steam.

I agree, though I think that the exclusives do sell me the console.

That said, Steam is a great deal, it's like a waste of money not to buy games for PCs instead.

I recently upgraded my CPU and doubled up on my ram, and I'm waiting for the new AMD 8000 series gpus to release. I can't wait!

Id buy it if it was 400 to 800 dollars. But im afraid of the first alpha releases, and im sure theres going to be some patches for it. Not really ready to dig into that. I probably wait it out and see. Unless they have some good titles that are coming out for it ill wait it out.

But im sure its going to be below 500 dollars just because the technology today is cheaper to make. Those days of expensive software and hardware are slowly coming to end.

One day you will get a system for free, but have to pay 99 dollars for games. Games never go under 59 dollars when they first come out. And companies make more money off the games and subscriptions than the systems.

the ps4 will launch at a ridiculous price. think of a reasonable price, then add another 250. thats the audacity sony ALWAYS have at launch.

I think it's probably legitimate. Lots of people were thinking it would be $399 entry and $499 standard. Anything over $400 is too much, IMHO.
