'Xenoblade Chronicles' copies selling for well over $100 online

Monolith Soft’s Xenoblade Chronicles took its sweet time coming over to the U.S., but thanks to a less-than-ideal supply, the average gamer probably won’t want to pick it up at its current price.

I really wanted to play this game, but at the time of it's release, my back log was just too long, and I had very little cash.

Now that my back log is cleared the game is selling for over $100. Looks like I'll never get the chance to play.

stragomccloud4088d ago

You can probably still find them locally at a gamestop. I'd really go in, and see if they can track down a copy because the game is a real gem.

rainslacker4088d ago

It's actually rather hard to find at GameStop, even though here locally they keep display boxes up as a best seller title. It's a shame because I would really like to play this game as well. This is one game that could have made more money in the long run if it was easy to find.

Yi-Long4088d ago

... which the publisher has made it nearly impossible to do so...

... I would say: Just get it 'somewhere' and play it through Dolphin in glorious HD.

Clearly, the publisher/developer doesn't want your money, given the fact they released so few copies, only as a Gamestop-exclusive, and they won't make any money from the 2nd hand market anyway.

Kur04088d ago

use Dolphin emulator or soft-mod your Wii and download the ISO. Buy the new X game for Wii U to support the dev.

WiiUsauce4088d ago

same thing happened to me when I didn't own a Wii and the Metroid Prime Trilogy came out. Then a couple months to a year later, I get a Wii and I tried finding the game only to find that it was selling for 80 bucks on ebay... I always try to pick these kinds of games up, because I don't know when, if ever I'm gonna get a chance to play the game.

I bought Xenoblade Chronicles on the week of its release at gamestop (I should've bought 2 dammit), and I didn't get around to start playing it until a week and a half ago. So far I'm 27 hours in, and I can honestly say this is one game I would not mind spending 100 dollars to play. It really is that much of an amazing gaming masterpiece. The music alone is worth the asking price, let alone the amazing combat system, and the extremely likeable non emo characters.

I'd recommend you pick up The Last Story too while you can still get it for 30 dollars.

YoungPlex4088d ago

This is the crap that pisses me off! Why the hell would Xenoblade be a GameStop exclusive title, when it is in fact one of the most popular jrpg's on the Wii? How the hell do developers expect to make money on games they're not selling after their first initial stock? I seen that game maybe once used nearly 3-4 months ago and haven't seen it since. I guess Monolith Soft underestimated the demand for this game and are moving on to X instead. I think that they should still send out another wave of shipments since people are charging nearly double or more for a copy. Who's with me?

DivineAssault 4088d ago

i disagree.. The wii is over now.. Only wii u for the time being

shutUpAndTakeMyMoney4088d ago

But wii is outselling wiU.. And Just dance is the #1 nintnedo game and that's a wii game.

WiiUsauce4088d ago

uhhh... YOU CAN PLAY ORIGINAL Wii GAMES ON Wii U. lol, that's how I'm playing Xenoblade right now.

amaguli4088d ago

It has nothing to do with Monolith Soft, they are just a developer. Nintendo of America were the ones that decided to have Xenoblade be a GameStop exclusive.

stragomccloud4088d ago

I really hate Nintendo of America. I could go into the reasons why... But I'm in the middle of a graduate level course and really don't have the time.

DivineAssault 4088d ago

NOA does no wrong! Blasphemy!! & Yes the wii is outselling the wii u but i doubt we will see much of anything get released since wii u is here.. Unlike the continued support they did with the DS, NOA is done providing people with wii games from now on.. Even wii u games are scarce & not much of anything new

WiiUsauce4088d ago

it's funnier because despite the game being only sold exclusively at a single North American retailer, the game still sold more copies here in North America than it did in Japan and Europe combined. http://www.vgchartz.com/gam...

I was lucky enough to have the money at the time to pre-order Xenoblade when it was available. I feel real bad for the people that missed out on this game. Who knows, maybe Monolith Soft will do an HD remake for the Wii U if there is enough demand for it.

jc485734088d ago (Edited 4088d ago )

as far as I know, no companies have released an HD remake of any JRPG. They talk about it, but publishers don't seem that interested in the whole idea. We don't even know how FFX is going to turn out.

stragomccloud4088d ago

Kingdom Hearts! There is your example!

...please don't ask me for more.

Brasi19894088d ago

Strange... I was just in Kansas City (not a small city by any means) and the store shelves were loaded with them.

Ripsta7th4088d ago

YOU shouldve loaded yourself witth at least ten copies n sold them for some profit! not 100 tho thats just too much and greddy lol

Brasi19894088d ago

I might have to go back this weekend then.

rainslacker4088d ago (Edited 4088d ago )

Are you sure they actually had them in stock though? I know all my local Game Stop keeps them on display as a best seller title, but none of them actually have it in stock. They are just required to keep it on the shelves due to the way retail does things, even though they have no inventory to sell. I also find it funny on GameStops website, the pre-owned version is actually $10 more than a new version.

rainslacker4088d ago

In that case I may need you to pick me up a copy.:) Only one used copy at GameStops within 100 miles of me and it's 30 miles away. Not that bad a drive though, so maybe I'll call them tomorrow to see if it has the case and manual.;)

No doubt this game is great, I play it but seriously I can't justify paying $100 for a single Wii game no matter what it is.

jc485734088d ago

I think I need to preorder that Pandora's Tower game.

Best JRPG series of the last 5 years imo

repsahj207d ago

I agree 100%. My top JRPG so far, together with Baldurs Gate 3 and FF16.

autobotdan206d ago (Edited 206d ago )

There is no together at the top. There is only one top jrpg series. Xenoblade Chronicles series is alone at the top

raWfodog206d ago (Edited 206d ago )

I like the Xenoblades series but my ‘top’ series would be either the Trails series or Persona series. Just too many good games for me to just pick one series though, so I say play them all lol.

autobotdan206d ago

You are hereby excommunicated the church of Xenoblade Chronocology

CappyBlack206d ago

I'm not huge into JRPGs, but my favorite is easily the Persona series. It's all opinion though. Xenoblade is a great series.

repsahj207d ago

XC4 for Switch 2 for the win!! So excited!

phoenixwing206d ago

Also they might port over xenoblade x to the switch 2

Tetsuya Takahashi Wants The Next Xenoblade To Be Vastly Different From Previous Games

Tetsuya Takahashi has revealed his plan to make the next Xenoblade vastly different from previous games.

GotGame818237d ago (Edited 237d ago )

I liked the Xenoblade X formula. It takes awhile, but opening up Mechs was amazing. Especially once you can fly them, and use them in battle. You have to put some time into the game to do it, but it's worth it!

Also, the graphics were more realistic than the other games. Still looks good today, just a lot more pop-in than is acceptable today, hell even too much for back then. It wasn't game breaking though.

gleepot206d ago

Xenoblade 1-3 and X are so great. That said, I'm ready for them to do a big change up.

Lightning Mr Bubbles571d ago

Me being a Playstation guy and a huge JRPG fan, I can say that the only franchises I actually miss that are on Switch are The Fire Emblem series and The Xenoblade Chronicles series. I've played neither but I've heard good things. I've seen people play Xenoblade Chronicles games on youtube, and it seems like they think it's a big deal so I'm curious.

Rebel_Scum571d ago

As someone who doesnt like jrpg’s that much these days I went into Xenoblade Chronicles blind and had a blast. Reminded me of that golden age of 16-bit and 32-bit jrpgs. If thats the era you liked then it should hit the spot.

jznrpg571d ago

I only have a Switch for the games that don’t come on PlayStation . There aren’t a ton but there are some good ones.

repsahj571d ago (Edited 571d ago )

I agree with top 1, for me xenoblade chronicles 3(and 2) is one of the greatest jrpg to date. It's like the feeling of playing ff7 on ps1 for the first time again. Imagine if XC3 was done with ps5 graphics, that will be magical. I might get the xc remaster before the year ends or after I got the platinum trophy of GoW ragnarok.

jznrpg571d ago

I didn’t care for 2 as much . It’s good but 3 is sooo much better than so is the first one imo .

repsahj571d ago

yeah I agree, but much better than any recent jrpg releases.
