someone lost a bet to me.. $100 bet that vitas price would drop before a year like 3DS did & it hasnt.. I win & will use that money to buy more vita titles starting off with rayman origins since its on sale for vitas bday..

Even if Sony wanted to they couldn't lower the price any further given the fact that they are already selling the Vita at a loss. This isn't the same case with Nintendo since they had a massive profit margin on the 3DS in the beginning.

Sony is having some economic problems and reducing the price of a good that they are already loosing money on isn't going to help their situation.

maybe but sony is far from being in the economic trouble that people assume it to be.. They arent making as much as they used to for sure but theyre still in the top 100 of fortune 500 companies.. Im sure vita will get a price cut this year despite it selling at a loss.. The tech will be cheaper so they will drop it by at least 10%

I read the teardown when it was released and it's about 150 dollars to create a vita. So they have wiggle room, hence the bundles at the same price as the wifi vita itself. They don't want to cut the price, it's not that they can't. Nice try.

@Vaedur The Vita costs Sony around $280 to produce, and they have to sell them cheaper to retailers so the retailer can make their money. They're losing quite a bit of money on each Vita. Not sure how anyone came to the conclusion of $150, that's complete bullshit. Sony releases every system at a loss and makes the money back on software.

The 3DS released at an outrageous, profitable price, so Nintendo could afford a price cut early.

The Vita released at-cost, or even a little under cost. Sony would be fools to make a price cut. It's an outrageously powerful piece of hardware -- way smaller than an iPad 3, but with more GPU muscle and a battery that will outlast the iPad (during gaming) -- all crammed into that little case.

People who think $250 is not a steal for that device are completely disconnected from the reality of mobile tech.

I got my 3DS on sale for $140... and it still hasn't been worth it. I bought my Vita at full price... worth every penny -- I moved my entire PSP (and most of my PS1) RPG library to it, after selling the UMD versions of the games on eBay. It is an absolutely unbeatable mobile RPG device.

I mean, I know about all the doom and gloom articles, but I also know that none of the N4G fans ever believe any negative information about Sony. So can a fan tell me how is it really doing?

Sales wise - it's doing badly. Games wise it has a quite good first-party support for 2013, though we pretty much have no major 3rd party titles firmly confirmed. If you are interested in the backlog there were nearly 100 games released in 2012.

The Vita is not selling at a loss. Sony Hopes that once the components come down in price the PSV sales will takeoff as the price is lowered.
On Sony financials.
Sony is probably going to post a profit this fiscal year and Sony's revenue is 80 billion, a billion more than MS and half a billion more than Google making Sony at 12.8 billion the most undervalued company in the world.Sony is still financially sound and can afford to sell the PSV at a loss.
If I were Sony I would rather cut the price and shoulder losses now and then make billions in software sales down the line.

I have the 16gb card, I have like 25 of my music albumbs.

And.. I converted all my dvd's to mp4s, installed them all on my ps3 with a 640gb hardrive i installed (they are swappable without voiding warranty) and can copy movies to my vita to take on the go now.

I use facebook, twitter, and browser too.

It's awesome I've owned it since launch.

I'd like to think that Sony is having a little respect for the folks that bought the Vita early by not dropping the price. But then maybe I'm a gullible fool?

I really have no problem for what I paid. Many people don't either, I am not the only one especially those who see the value in the device, it has more features packed into it than most higher priced cell phones that do far less or even tablets for instance. It isn't cheaply built what so ever you see the quality in each component used.

It plays games like no other handheld and the price isn't bad at all, I can understand if you just aren't interested in any of the games right now but I find it hard to believe there are none, maybe not enough for people to buy the PS Vita but it's enough for me. Plenty actually, I have a bunch of games I still plan to buy but just haven't yet all PS Vita titles also.

I have loved the thing since I bought it and people complain about the memory cards when they can't complain about the actual PS Vita, well I say no one is forcing you to actually buy the expensive ones. No reason why if you are on that tight of a budget you would be buying a bunch of digital stuff anyway and you can get the 4GB cards for very cheap and it's plenty to play games and even download a little here and there.

Sure you may have to delete something every now and then but oh no that is so hard to do on the Vita and so time consuming let me tell you (sarcasm).

Dunno if these comments are aimed at my comment, but I did purchase the Vita day one and absolutely love it!!
Just thinking how I would have felt if they had dropped the price after I had paid full price for it.

me and my friends are early adopters and we love our PSVitas, we wouldnt care if the price of the PSVita gets dropped now since when it comes to sony, they will probably release a slim version(dumbed down version) just like with the PSP fat and the PSP slim, the PSP fat was more resistant to damage since it had a full metal chassis, while the slim.. well... it was mostly plastic and the UMD door was more prone to fail. i owned all editions of PSP's and i believe the PSP 1000 was the best.
