Blizzard has spoken before on the need to shape up Diablo III’s grindy end-game and gear issues. Now, in an official forum thread (via PCGamesN) collating a sizable pile of player concerns and requests, Community Manager Vaneras acknowledged the RPG “needs to be a better game” overall but re-iterated its intention as a sequel with a standalone identity instead of “an HD version of Diablo II.”
Who says a dud game can't have a video game comeback?
Cyberpunk and No Man's Sky have to be up there. We're lucky and cursed, equally, to have games that can be updated now. For folks old enough to remember the Sega/SNES into PS1 and even 2 eras, if a game came out that was half baked (*cough*Angel of Darkness*cough*) that was it, no redemption. At the same time, having the option for updates shouldn't be an excuse for half assing games.
I remember when the Nintendo Seal of Approval meant something.
All those games had to release without bugs.
Diablo III still works on modern PlayStation and Xbox consoles, and remains hugely playable a decade after initial release.
Diablo III: Season 28 brings with it the Altar of Rites, an altar full of unlockable bonuses and potions that will require the gathering of tons of resources. Blah, blah, blah...still, the same canned rhetoric pours forth from the mouths of those at Blizzard as it did from day one of Diablo III's release, and yet not much has changed. My opinion? If Blizzard couldn't get their act together over the course of 10+ years to develop a worthwhile sequel, I'm guessing that it's absolutely never going to happen, especially after the fact. It's what us realists call, "wishful thinking."
As much as I hope they mean to fix things, I kind of doubt they will. I mean, the first huge patch of the game nerfed damage AND gold/rare find. I doubt they're trying to make the game.. y'know, fun.
