An opinion column via eGamer.co.za in which the author attempts to answer a simple question involving game completing, by delving deeper into the complexities of gamer types and what they might consider to be completion.
Quote: "When someone says that they have completed a game, what do you think they mean?
I’ve recently asked myself this question and I have to say, it got me thinking for far longer than I ought to have considering what a simple question it is. It wasn’t because my mind was preoccupied with other thoughts, as it usually is, nor because I was distracted, nor indeed because I’m an idiot (have to cover all bases) but rather because it actually has something to it. Huzaifa from eXputer: "2008 was home to the likes of Call of Duty: World at War, Dead Space, GTA 4, Far Cry 2, Left 4 Dead, and many other hits, which is outright remarkable."
I always say to skeptics of games...
"You like movies right?"
"Yeah", they reply
I say, "Well what's better than being in a movie and getting to play the lead...sometimes even directing the entire narrative yourself?"
This is why I game.
I game as a way of escapism from the real worlds day to day bullshit we have to endure at work etc each day, 2 hrs in the evening of living out a adventurer Uncharted Series, Gran Turismo Nuremburg are excellent ways to relax imo before the next hectic day at work which pays crap, bullying bosses lol.
I play game's to escape everyday life, a boring gray existence with murder, violence and misery at every turn.
I game to have fun! And to live out lives I'd never have in real life. I can't be a giant killer bee in real life unless I'm a mascot for a sports team, and thats not even the same thing.
I game because gaming has given me the confidence to tackle the real world. From guiding, leading, making difficult decisions and working as a team. Without games, I don't think I'd be the person I am today.
