Prince of Persia needs to make a comeback

PSU.com writes:

"After a three-year hiatus, it's about time Prince of Persia returned to the scene and weaved its magic blend of platforming and acrobatic combat."

i agree, we need to see the prince and personally i really want an 08 sequel or something that finishes the story, or at least a real PoP game.

It really does. A reboot that's true to the previous games with them still in canon or a continuation of the 08 one would be nice.

No...just let that series be.. I knew things were getting too off-course when I played Warrior within. The first (PS2 remake) Prince of Persia was THE BEST! Then they started doing all this weird new stuff...booooooooo. Then assassins creed too over and that was one of the [illogical?] reasons I never wanted to play AC, because I thought it helped destroy POP.

Anyone else feel the same?

P.S. that Spam below, those are bots 99% of the time. You arent talking to humans people.

juandren4092d ago

That's weird lol. I thought N4G (like most websites) would have measures in place to avoid accounts being created automatically

I love Assassin's Creed, but I definitely see where you're coming from with how it killed PoP. I'm pretty sure the AC engine was made for what was supposed to be a PoP reboot. I agree that the PS2 remake of the first one was the best. Things did indeed get weird with the following two games, but I still liked them. The first one just felt genuine with the character models and music and all that stuff, if you know what I mean.

It's so strange to me that "fans" of a franchise are so unable to disassociate older entries from newer entries in a series, even if said entry is a reimagining that makes absolutely no attempt to fit into the original canon.

You would really rather see a series die than to see it stop retreading the same territory over and over and over and over again?

I loved the Sands of Time, and yet I STILL would love to see either a continuation of the '08 entry or even another "reinvention" if the developers feels so inclined. Personally I'd like a bit of closure before they move on, but if not, then whatever.

Xof4092d ago

It really doesn't. It's a strong franchise that has been re-imagined twice, and has what, 12+ games?

There are plenty of other franchises just as good, if not better, that have seen far fewer games that have been abandoned for far longer. Legacy of Kain, Homeworld, Suikoden, to name a few.

juandren4092d ago

Maybe not a "comeback" per say, as there is no denying the game is not perfect and has gone significantly downhill. I think it needs to evolve, though. Maybe a different setting and definitely more puzzles. That was my favourite part of the Prince of Persia series. Especially if you figure out a simple puzzle and afterwards feel like an ass for taking that long to figure it out

juandren4092d ago

I would like for one similar to Two Thrones, just with a better story this time around. I loved the powers you got - it really added an exciting element to the game. Maybe just make the game a bit longer though. And I hope Ubisoft doesn't try to make it like Assassin's Creed. Don't get me wrong, I love Assassin's Creed, but to me it doesn't have the same feel as Prince of Persia has (or had)

xXBlondieVanHarlowXx4092d ago

If they gimped the awesome free-flowing flexible combat from PoP, into something slow awkward and stiff like Ac. I would just f**king flip. I wouldn't mind them evolving the platforming though. Assassin's creed's parkour always felt like what PoP's parkour was meant to be. If they found out how to somehow combine both and improve on them then that would be epic.

joelio134092d ago

I say reboot it. And I say that as the biggest POP fan I know. There just needs to be a new energy from Ubisoft put into the series.

juandren4092d ago (Edited 4092d ago )

I say the best step would be more varied settings. Dungeons, palaces, rooftops, the desert, temples. Ubisoft should do research and get a complete idea of what Persia looked like in that time. Maybe a level on a boat after the Prince gets captured and is transported somewhere? Just some excitement. And please, please, PLEASE Ubisoft, don't call him Dasdan again?

pr0t0typeknuckles4092d ago

i fully agree, XD whats wrong with dastan it made sense to call him that in the crappy movie, it means story or great leader, all in all i agree, keep his name a mystery it adds to the character, heck in forgotten sands wii, he said why get personal just call me prince.

10 Super NES Games You’ll Probably Never Beat

If you’re a gamer “of a certain age”, you may vaguely remember the moment when games went from a grueling gauntlet requiring all your skill and concentration to tackle to a casual, checkpoint-containing, cruise control-encouraging walk in the park.

I beat Jurassic Park multiple times!

Jurassic Park had no save system, so I would leave the console running while I went to school, took breaks. It's not that it's hard, it's just tedious. But I was a Jurassic Park obsessed kid (around 13 when this hit), so I would obsessively scower ever inch of the maps (both 2D and 3D) until I had them memorized.

The Star Wars trilogy, I only beat w the cheat codes.

Longie_long561d ago

Sounds just like me. I mapped out the indoor areas on paper, leaving the SNES on for days at a time. But I never finished the game. I collected all the raptor eggs except one. So close !

Neonridr561d ago

oh god, I remember beating JP on SNES and like you said, it was all in one shot.

I dunno about this list though, I beat all the Star Wars games and while some levels were tough, it was easy to get powerups and extra lives and stuff. Maybe set to the hardest settings it was tough. I also beat Contra 3, loved that game to death.

darthv72561d ago

with the exception of Jurassic Park and Prince of Persia, I've beaten every other one of those. It just takes practice and time. Something I had way more of when I was younger.
