Tiny Tina Isn't Racist, Just Eccentric (Borderlands 2)

GR's DeShaun Zollicoffer writes:

Yesterday Borderland 2’s lead writer Anthony Burch was bombarded with tweets about Tiny Tina. Some BL2 players think she’s making fun of the black community because she says things like ‘badonkadonk’. Now I’m all for getting rid of stereotypes, but there’s nothing wrong with Tiny Tina. Finding her racist says more about the offended parties than it does the game’s writing.

Honestly this is just dumb to consider it. Slang is not a language of a specific race. Everyone uses Slang language, and to go out and point it out by saying "She sounds like a black person" is more racist. Have these people been around pre-teens? Middle Schools? High School? They all talk in slang. She's just acting her age.

I agree! I'm more offended by people calling this racist than anything she says.

Am I the only one who noticed almost all of the complaints of "racism" are coming from white guys? White Guilt anyone?

admiralvic4099d ago

I've seen it often enough from every race, so don't generalize. This all comes back to society trying to be more "politically correct" (or in the US anyway...), so anything that could be offensive to anyone is called out. Even if Tiny Tina is in fact a racist character, how would that change anything? She isn't saying racial slurs or anything that affects the real world, so why should it matter? This is no different than complaining that her lack of sanity / love of explosions is offensive to people with genuine problems.

Seriously this whole racism/sexism/white male guilt thing is taking extreme proportions lately. You should see the shit that's going on in communities such as Tumblr or radical feminists.

It's considered racist for white people to wear clothing or accessories from other cultures (what...?). It's considered sexist for men to say "not all men are bad". Sometimes when you read their stuff you'd almost think it's considered racist for white people to even be white, because apparently white people inherit their slaver ancestor's sins through Jesus, and we're all guilty. (also white people seem to be the only ethnicity to have ever done anything wrong)

Meanwhile all these people seem to do with their lives is to come up with all kinds of prejudices against people of a certain gender and skin color (white males)

TechOne: Pretty much and your disagrees likely come from predominately the same source. Looks like they learned 'em good.

She's an awful character, but no. Not racist.

Still cant believe there people out there who think TT is racist. All I see is an awesome lil crazy girl who loves explosives! Her character was one of the highlights of BL2 :D

I was thinking of Mad Max. That V8 felt really good to drive around in, especially with upgrades.

No one liked the Batmobile in Arkham Knight. Top 10?

toxic-inferno466d ago

I don't know... It was a strange addition to the game, and the parts of the game where you had to fight in it were tedious. But driving it around Gotham felt brilliant.
