Kawata says he's 'revised his opinion' on action-focused Resident Evil

Resident Evil producer Masachika Kawata has said that he has "started to revise [his] opinion" on comments he made last year about making the series more action-oriented after looking at "user feedback from the last couple of games".

" Hopefully it can appeal to both camps."

For god sake...it's like they know but they can't let go of the action route they want to go. It's kind of like "We can prove people wrong, they will like it, we'll just have to try again harder"

If I was him and RE5 got complaints over this and then RE6 then that would be it for me..."My idea failed, fans were right, I shouldn't of screwed over my fanbase"

They just can't let go...they are so proud it's unreal

aCasualGamer4100d ago

Couldn't agree more with @Root.

There is something undeniably wrong with his head. It's not that they tried to cater to both in RE6, it's that they screwed fans over and made it MORE action than RE5. Screw Leons campaign, that was even more screwed up than RE5. It's sad that you could basically go around kung fu them to death the entire campaign. It was seriously like a RE parody.

Anyways... I hope they go back to the roots, for real this time.

I have nothing against the action route as far as how the gameplay and controls are now; however, game needs its roots back.

RE6 was an absolute mess of a game that had good ideas. Stick to one well developed campaign with cameos from other characters, have a co-op mode for those who love it, and bring back the horror.

Resident Evil 6 (According to VgCharts) has sold like 1.48 Million worldwide for 360 and around that number on PS3.

I am sure they were expecting 5 million+ in sales per console since it "went action."

I hope they realized that it can only be successful if you make a game for the fans that have been around and bought all their games in the past.

These publishers think they can get the "COD crowd" by making $hi&&y action games, but as we can tell... they can't. Those people ONLY play COD, FIFA, Madden, etc. The same thing each year.

So please, save yourself and make a good game. With those hundreds and hundreds of people that worked on RE6, I am sure they took a major financial loss.

Save yourself Capcom.

Eyeco4100d ago

and that's the annoying thing, so many devs are trying to appeal to the COD crowd, but NONE of them and I mean NONE of them ever prevail, there's nothing unique about RE6's failed "action" approach as made clear with so many games before it, all it does in the end is alienate fans, I am so dreading Dead Space 3 release date

Seraphim4100d ago (Edited 4100d ago )

it's not even just the COD crowd. Developers are just trying to hard to make their games more appealing to the masses. The fact of the matter is that the masses are going to either buy a game or pass. Stick to your roots, stick to what the fans expect because at the end of the day they're the only ones buying your games..... that is the simple fact of the matter. These people buying/playing these games, CoD, Madden, etc often only play those games. They're casual gamers for a reason. They have a very select number of games they buy and play....

Donnieboi4099d ago

Yo your totally right man. My friends ps3 broke, and he bought a new one just for blops 2. His new ps3 came with a ps plus subscription and he just gave me the ps plus sub for free. He said he doesnt even care about the free games from ps plus, he only wanted to play his stupid cod game.

How the heck can people be so hooked on such a stupid game? But either way, your right: Those who love cod usually ONLY play Cod. Because if they tried other games, they'd realize how outdated COD has become.

TheCopyNinja4100d ago

It's embarrassing to even consider myself a fan of the series anymore with how horrible the series became since RE4.

clintagious6504100d ago

I cant believe how bad RE6 turned out to be. I mean for me i thought it was way too short compared to all the other RE games. Really was a let down. They need to go back to their old formula which made so many of us love the franchise in the 1st place.

KimoNoir4100d ago

Just fucking keep making scary games. how hard can that be? japanese designers are all good at making fucked up movies and games. what happened?

Greed happened. And it's as blind a mole.

There Will Never Be Another Resident Evil 6 (And That Sucks)

A rough gem that may never get the proper treatment it deserves.

Terry_B404d ago

^^ I don't want what the author was smoking.

-Foxtrot404d ago

It’s this thing where after enough time people start coming out to defend bad games for some strange reason

I mean hey if you liked it good for you but it was a f****** awful RE game.

Capcom are finally back on track and now people are crying about their shitty mistakes? No thanks.

RpgSama402d ago

I'd take a full blown remake of RE6 based around a GREATLY expanded Leon part and make it even more horror.

That might be something I would be interested in, do not care about any of the other parts of that game.

MadLad402d ago

I couldn't even get through the demo.
Years later I bought it for $3 for PC. I played about 5 minutes into it and uninstalled it.

babadivad402d ago (Edited 402d ago )

RE6 was better than 5. RE6 just took the series to the conclusion that started with 4.

RE4 was the inaugural title in the action game trilogy.

RE9 will be the likely end of the first person psychological thriller trilogy.

They'll switch it up for RE10 or more likely titled RE-X.

hotnickles402d ago

5 is vastly better than 6 imo

TheEnigma313402d ago

RE5 is way better than 6. Stop lying to yourself

FallenAngel1984404d ago (Edited 404d ago )

“But all this is solely with respect to how fans felt back in 2013 when Resident Evil 6 had just been released. The game resulted in the series getting indefinitely killed off until 5 years later when we got Resident Evil 7 and balance was restored yet again. ”

1.) Resident Evil 6 came out in 2012, not 2013

2.) A series getting killed off means no titles at all released in a time period. Silent Hill, Dead Space, Dino Crisis, Parasite Eve & Siren fans would love to see how you can say RE was on the same level of dormancy. In that 5 year time period we had a number of remasters that kept the series alive and kicking. RE1 02ms remaster even broke sales records during the period between RE6 and RE7.

3. Way to disrespect Resident Evil: Revelations 2. It was released during that RE6-RE7 period. It along with its predecessor were mainline titles that kept the horror roots of the series alive in comparison to RE5 and RE6. RE: R1 in particular even introduced the ability to walk and shoot into the series, a feature we can all be grateful for that in modern RE titles. The director RE: R1 later went on to direct RE7 and the director of RE: R2 later went to to direct the RE2 & RE4 remakes.

Immagaiden404d ago (Edited 404d ago )

“Resident Evil 6 is often maligned as the worst entry in the Resident Evil series and is cited as the cause behind the long death of the franchise.”

Titles in the Resident Evil series such as Survivor, Gaiden, Dead Aim, Outbreak, Operation Raccoon City, Umbrella Corps, & Resistance we’re received far worse than RE6.

And death of the franchise?

RE6 was still one of the most commercially successful games in the series, guaranteeing the franchise’s future. Compare how underwhelming sales of Dead Space 3, Silent Hill: Downpour. Alone in the Dark: Illumination, Dino Crisis 3, Fatal Frame: Maiden in Black Water, Castlevania: Lords of Shadows 2, and Metroid: Other M which caused their respective series to go into a long period of dormancy without any rereleases to even keep activity up.

RE however still had a significant number of titles released and rereleased after RE6. Not only that but development for RE7 started a short time after its predecessor came out, meaning there was never a development time that the series could be considered dead. There hasn’t been a single year that Capcom stopped either developing, releasing, or rereleasing Resident Evil games. Let’s not act like the 5 year period between RE6 and RE7 is such a longer time compared to the 4 year period between RE4 and RE5 as well as RE7 and RE8. We can pretty much expect RE9 in either 2025 or 2026, and you can be certain that Capcom will still release other RE tiles leading up to it

TheEnigma313402d ago (Edited 402d ago )

Man go some where with this. Only a few like this game. Why would they remake a garbage game no one likes risking money because it won't sell? RE 6 is dumpster drippings, sorry.

MIDGETonSTILTS17402d ago

It wasn’t that good, even if you enjoyed it like me.
