IGN:Fire Emblem Awakening is the most fluid and stunning strategy RPG experience available on a portable, and features the best storytelling and production value of any 3DS game to date. The strong tactical gameplay and strikingly diverse visuals are only part of the equation - the strength of the game comes from the strength of the characters. The desire to protect them and progress their individual story arcs drives home the weight of your decisions, and makes you feel more involved and invested than most games ever come close to. I found myself going to great lengths to keep all members of my team alive - not due to the compulsive need to collect all the warriors, but because I truly cared about these people. That’s rare for a videogame, where death is often a temporary and inconsequential occurrence.
Video game sequels like Assassin's Creed Origins, Doom (2016), and Fire Emblem Awakening were just what these franchises needed to be revitalized.
Lmao what’s Halo Infinite doing on this list?
Who would ever say Halo Infinite saved the Halo franchise
Resi 6 was and still is the worst entry in the series.
7 was a great turnaround, despite people’s concerned about the switch to FP perspective.
DMC5 definitely helped the franchise after the whole DmC debacle. Whilst it was a decent action game, it was a far cry from the series and the characters we knew.
AC Origins is my favourite in the entire AC series. Despite the switch to a more RPG style of gameplay - the setting, soundtrack, length, etc were all amazing. sadly followed up by the ridiculously long and “more of the same” Odsyssey.
I don’t feel it’s fair to say the franchise slipped with Doom 3, Doom 3 was incredibly atmospheric and took the game in a different direction but there’s no denying Doom (2016) was sensational.
Halo 4 & 5 were disappointing but Halo Infinite definitely didn’t save the franchise? What?
I'm going to have to go with SMB 3. I was around when SMB 2 first came out and people hated it. 3 is still arguably the best mario game created.
"Halo Infinite"? Worse Halo ever. Whoever made this list just lost all credibility.
In future lists of a similar nature I have a suspicion Final Fantasy XVI will feature.
After becoming acquainted with the colorful cast of adults in Fire Emblem Awakening, the story soon turns into a tale of time travel involving the children of all these characters.
Are these the best Fire Emblem first-gen characters? Fire Emblem Awakening is not only filled with tactical battles and intense strategizing, but also colorful characters who sometimes fit into this medieval world and sometimes seem better suited to a slice-of-life anime.
Can't freaking wait!
mine! i dont trust audreys nintendo reviews but i have no doubt this game is great.. Day 1 for me & on pre order for the bonus..
I would never turn off permadeath.. It would ruin the games charm.. The battle graphics are almost as large in scale as the wii.. Sure its pixelated with less polygon counts but its great for 3ds.. I see they had to compensate for the great battle visuals by making the grids in sprite pixel art form..
Now if only the wii u would make a full fledged FE game.. No doubt they will at some point & im sure it will be stunning! I have & completed every last one of them.. This, metroid, zelda, & starfox are the reasons i will always back nintendo.. Even Kirby is good (the dreamland series only) imo
I could swear the score was 9.2 a couple hours ago. Also I agree with Divine Assault (surprising I know) that Audrey Drake overrates many nintendo titles, at least from my personal experience with some of the games.
Edit: Oh forgot to say, this game looks awesome despite my dislike for the reviewer.
I don't question Fire Emblem's quality but Audrey tends to exaggerate the scores for Nintendo games.
9.6 ? Just give it a 9 or 10. The in game graphics don't match with the cut scenes which is kinda disappointing.
