Grid 2: 'Lighting, Car Handling, Damage & AI Not Hampered By Current-Gen'

NowGamer: Codemaster's Grid 2 isn't too worried about the next-gen consoles when the Xbox 360 and PS3 are still more than capable.

Then where are the cockpits ffs.

JP13694101d ago

Don't these games run at 30 FPS as well? Codies should know enough to know that a slower frame rate will, in fact, affect the handling. And yeah, I'm not buying a racing game that doesn't include a cockpit view.

mcstorm4101d ago

Why would you not buy a game that has not got a cockpit view? have you never bought a GT game as none of them but GT5 has cockpit view and GT5 only has it on 200 car and with an update a dark out line.

I enjoy playing racing games from a cockpit view but with a Arcade game it is not needed as it is different style of racing to Forza and GT.

I am looking forward to seeing what this game is like as the 1st one was a lot of fun.

The GT series is actually my favorite but, I've grown accustomed to the cockpit view and consider it a requirement. In GT5 I consistently avoided the cars that didn't have a cockpit view. The thing that really annoys me about Gran Turismo is that they don't even give you a hood view, relying instead on the roof camera which is not fun at all.

Cockpits look nice but do nothing for an "arcade action racer" when it come's to adding to the gameplay.

JP13694101d ago

It adds to the atmosphere, the feeling that you're actually participating in the action. If you take that away, you remove the "feeling" of being in the car. To a lot of people, that's a pretty important aspect of gameplay.
P.S. I really hope you're not one of those people that plays racing games from the third person. If so, your opinion on the issue really means nothing, as those kinds of players are usually absolutely terrible.

CommonSenseGamer4101d ago

@JP:
I agree, it makes it more immersive. No cockpit view is like an FPS where your character has no feet and casts no shadow. Basically you're a floating gun.

theWB274101d ago

Its a shame they dont have the cockpit view too cause I still think it was the best this gen. It was as visceral as the handling was...still gonna give it a shot though.

cleverusername4101d ago

Considering the amount of games they've made this gen with the EGO engine, they really should have it running at 60fps on console by now!!

VonBraunschweigg4101d ago

If only their rewind gimmick worked in real life so the Codies could go back to the days they made proper racegames. Lightning, carhandling, damage and AI, it was all there in TOCA/DTM Racedriver 3. Pure racethrills, not this 100mph handbreak Hollywood BS. Back in those days as a racefan you would simply laugh your pants off if somebody came up with GT's little train of cars going sterile around the track, DTM was where the true racing was done. Now it's the other way around, at least for me it is.

Kurt Russell4101d ago

What they're failing to mention is they had problems getting hold of as many car liscenses as the previous one due to them not being able to afford it.

To Sony, and so many other companies in this industry, the short-term satisfaction and happiness of their shareholders means so much more to them than their employees, their products, and their customers.

Apologies, don't know how the above comment ended up here while it clearly should have gone to other article about the Sony lay-offs. Please delete.
