Kotaku: For the past two months, we've been running a feature called Pecking Order, in which we rank every game in a series, from best to worst. First up was Halo, then Grand Theft Auto.
Now it's Final Fantasy's turn. Which game in Square's crystal-packed behemoth is the best? Which is the worst? Which has the cutest moogles? Which has the best Aeris death?
You guessed it: you will need a lot of hours to beat every FF. But maybe not as many as you would think.
According to Howlongtobeat and this post, 489 hours, not including any spinsoffs, sequels or the two MMO's (FFXI and FFXIV).
That means, 1 to 16 + 7 Remake, excluding X-2, XIII-2, Lightning Returns, XI and XIV.
I"ve actually been running through all main games myself, but doing Platinum runs on each, including the sequels (Excluding XI and XIV).
I have played through them all countless times thou, and in remasters where I could speed up combat and exp gain, I've used it.
Took me around 1100 hours on fresh account, but now I'm exhausted and super ready for Rebirth.
At this stage good luck you're better off picking a entry point and sticking with that

From Kingdom Hearts to Super Smash Bros., iconic Final Fantasy characters have made several appearances in other great games.

Generally agree with this. Would certainly would put XIII rock bottom and IX right near the top. Only played IX for the first time a couple of years ago, and even with the dated graphics it completely blew me away.
A surprisingly good list. Nice to see Final Fantasy V getting some praise for once. I'd put Final Fantasy VII ahead of IV though
Best: Final Fantasy X !!

Wow, I pretty much agree with that list, though I might slide FFXIII up a few places and FFX down a few. People who bitch about FFXIII being linear obviously don't remember much of FFX.
