Since this is really the third game in the series, isn't it already a franchise? Or does it not count since the first one has a different name?

b_one4098d ago

They only want to sound l33t, nothing more ;)

nrvalleytime4098d ago

Demon Souls, while similar in tone, isn't a numbered entry in the series - it's a different IP with different lore, and Sony owns exclusive rights to it. It's really similar, but just not the same.

Irishguy954098d ago (Edited 4098d ago )

It's really similar like Final Fantasy 7 is to 8. Please, same series, different name.

Why did they use 'Dark souls'? They weren't allowed use Demons souls 2. Thats it really. It is not just similar, Dark souls has been named as the spiritual Successor to Demons souls. And I don't understand why anyone thinks they would make another Demons souls and limit themselves from selling it on Xbox.

b_one4098d ago

Cool, i hope SSM will make Demons Souls 2 someday

xXBlondieVanHarlowXx4098d ago (Edited 4098d ago )

Patches the Hyena didn't care about tone, he still found a way to screw you over in both games >_< I always figured they were connected, just not direct sequels. It's a shame Sony didn't back up the idea of a Demon souls 2. :(

Demon souls > Dark Souls IMO

NukaCola4098d ago (Edited 4098d ago )

So then spiritual successors from now on?

Dead Souls
Devil Souls
Dragon Souls

It's the Souls Saga guys, just except it...lol.

Pfft they will franchise anything that makes $$$.

You might not see Dark Souls 3, but what about Light Souls or Humans Souls? LOL

violents4098d ago

So then, dark souls isn't really a sequel to demons souls, however is considered the "spiritual succesor" to demon souls.

So what its the same universe but different game/timeline? or something like that.

I would like to hear more about the remake of King's Field. I believe that is why the original director is preoccupied.

Kran4098d ago

Making a sequel already turns it into a franchise.

Making a sequel to a game that was also technically a sequel has turned the games into a franchise, so... sorry devs.

ThyMagicSword4098d ago

The franchise is already a franchise.

Little gray area here with this..

The game isn't good though.

DS2 was fine. While there was a bit of recycling assets or ideas for bosses, it was a bigger more open Dark Souls. The Fume knight boss is one of the hardest bosses in the series until Sekiro and Elden Ring were released.

The problem with Dark Souls 2 was the same problem when a different director takes over for a sequel to an outstanding movie. It typically (there are exceptions) doesn’t have the feel and vision of the previous movie.

I wouldn’t say Dark Souls 2 is terrible. Had Dark Souls 1 never been a thing and we got this, I think it would have been praised more. The problem is it didn’t have the Miyazaki touch to it and felt pretty derivative. The soundtrack is a banger though.

Aussiesummer53d ago

And it will happen in the future when he doesn’t touch them as he is planning on.

MrBaskerville53d ago

I like DS 2, might even be my favorite of the 3. But it's a hard sell, there's so many obscure things you need to do to make it an enjoyable experience. So always find it hard to recommend, but it is worth the trouble.

All the bosses are only from Dark Souls. No Bloodborne, Sekiro, Elden Ring, or Demon Souls
