THQ Died At The Top Of Its Game

Game Informer - When a company is in its death throes, it usually comes after a prolonged period of sub-par performance. THQ is an interesting story to look at from a quality perspective. Looking solely at the products that it has developed over the years, I noticed that the publisher was putting out titles of increasing quality from the NES all the way up until its recent trouble. THQ may be dead and gone, but I wanted to take a look at how it progressed over several console generations.

for sure. metro, saints row 3, darksiders. Some of my favorite new ips this gen down the drain. I'm pretty sure they're putting saints row 4 in a whole new direction with a new team. Sad..

THQ it was good while it lasted.

never played any of your games except 1996 "FANTASTIC 4" ps1 game.

One of my favourite games this gen is Red Faction Guerrilla.

Metro will continue to be developed in the same way by 4A games. Same dev team, same game. Saints Row 4 will continue to be developed by Volition and there probably won't be much of a new direction.

But Darksiders... sadly that is down the drain.

Its the gaming climate we live in now unfortunately. Its hard for some developers to keep up with the costs to make games like Nintendo, Sony, & Microsoft can. They had some minor hits but they were bleeding money and we have seen the results of that.

They made some really great games over the years, and especially during this generation, but they were, unfortunately, mismanaged and put too many eggs in the casual basket... heck, even made a casual basket to put the casuals into.

Regardless, the franchises will live on (someone will pick up Darksiders eventually) and hopefully continue to entertain.

I can see an article similar to this appearing in the not too distant future for Sega.

Too much spanking of the blue hedgehog and failure to plug genuinely great IPs like Binary Domain will ultimately seal their fate.

Big, unfocused publishers are dying because it no longer makes sense to do video games that way.

But THQ was definitely starting to get things together, so it was really unfortunate to see them fall apart now. Sometimes you just dig yourself too deep to crawl out.

An intro to Biomutant

Alex & Mike talk Biomutant, a game from Experiment 101/THQ Nordiq you likely have not heard of. While the AAA side of the industry tends to homogenization and imitative, cinematic presentation, “AA” games remain creative and innovative in 2021. Drawing on inspirations as varied as Dark Souls, third person shooters & kung fu cinema, Biomutant is Ratchet & Clank on acid, developed by a team of 20 people.

THQ's Golden Wii, Meant for the Queen of England, has been Found

Remember THQ? They published such games as Avatar: The Last Airbender, Darksiders I & II, the Destroy All Humans series, Homefront, the Red Faction series, and Saint's Row 1-3. Almost as famous as their games were the THQ marketing stunts, including a Golden Wii.
