Vigil Games Crafts A Fitting Tribute To The Legend Of Zelda: Skyward Sword

On its Facebook page, Vigil Games says it made the artwork as a tribute to one of its favorite video games, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword. Since its inception in 2005, the developer made two games – Darksiders and Darksiders II – both of which were inspired by The Legend of Zelda series.

Vigil deserves a new home.
No one picked them up, which boggles the mind.

aviator1894105d ago

I agree. This is the one main thing that pissed me off about the auction.

Manchild4105d ago (Edited 4105d ago )

@chuk5, check out the link below. It seems that Platinum Games is interested in the Darksiders franchise so it might just end up purchasing it or the entire Vigil games.

@relientk77, Vigil was actually working on a totally new type of game. It was codenamed "Crawler". Here's what THQ president Jason Rubin had to say about the game: "When the teams got together recently to show each other their titles, Crawler dropped the most jaws." That talent will land somewhere though..but yea would be nice to see a studio stick together.

Firefwy4105d ago

Investors/publishers want to buy studios and IPs that make money. Unfortunately, Darksiders II lost money for Vigil and THQ, which is why I suspect they weren't purchased at auction.

I think potential buyers are simply waiting for the price to come down. There's just way too much talent there for the whole studio to close shop.

Kennytaur4105d ago

It's also because they were in early development of a new IP, which meant a publisher would have to pay them for developing a couple of years and then for marketing. Seeing how Vigil only has two games in their belt, it would be a huge risk for a company to buy them.

But it is a real shame as I had high hopes for the studios future.

Instigator4105d ago

I'd buy Vigil if I had the money...:/

llMurcielagoll4105d ago

I just hope that Vigil would be bought by a good publisher some day, anything but those fat vulture EA hellbillies.

ironfist924104d ago

I was hoping Ubisoft would snatch em up, Darksiders is a fitting game for their line of franchises

llMurcielagoll4104d ago

@Ironfist92 Indeed! Ubisoft would make a great home for Vigil games.

Will just have to wait and see.

Knight_Crawler4104d ago

What really boggles my mind is why can'nt anyone make a good Zelda clone.

Zelda is my favorite franchise in the world but I am starting to get sick of how Nintendo has been handling it latly.

Sure Zelda was never about graphics, story telling or voice acting but I feel like Zelda needs to make a bold move into the next gen era and wow us with awesome graphics and an actual story with Link finally speaking...this and the awesome gamplay and universe that makes Zelda what is would be my dream come through.

If Nintendo does not want to move forward with Zelda then someone should make a clone with everything I mentioben...I dont care if Nintendo fanboys want to call it it a clone as long as it play like Zelda I will buy it.

Okami HD.. Zelda perfected

ElectricKaibutsu4104d ago

Okami was great. I don't know why you specified the HD verson, but anyway. Okami didn't fix one of the big issues Knight_Crawler pointed out, the wolf didn't talk either. Personally I don't care if Link talks. I wouldn't mind voice acting for the supporting characters though.

humbleopinion4104d ago

Okami, Kameo, Fable, Darksiders

IAmLee4104d ago

I've never actually played zelda. -__-

Although I do have windwaker and ocarina of time for gamecube..

shutUpAndTakeMyMoney4104d ago

God of War devs are looking to hire them.

Vigil's a pretty awesome dev. I liked both Darksiders and Darksiders II quite a lot; this is just the icing on the cake.

EddieNX 4105d ago

Darksiders 1 and 2 are amazing games , that apocalyptic difficulty has you at the edge of your seat.

It's extremely sad that The main dev we all wanted safe from THQ dissolving looks the one to going down the shitter :( .

At least relic got the right home at Sega but stil...

Skate-AK4105d ago

I thought Darksiders was easy on apocalyptic diffculty personally. I only died twice. Ended up getting the Platinum trophy last night.

BanBrother4104d ago

@Skate

Did you use a rubber band for the platinum? (Darksiders fans KNOW what I'm talking about. And yes... I did).

Relientk774105d ago (Edited 4105d ago )

I would love to see what else Vigil has up its sleeve, Darksiders 3, and a new IP?

TheBardsSong4105d ago

I guess you didn't hear the news... :(

pr0t0typeknuckles4105d ago

now thats just badass, i still dont see how vigil wasnt picked up, imo they were one of thqs top 3.

Bethesda Needs to Reduce the Gaps Between New Fallout and Elder Scrolls Releases

Waiting a decade for new instalments in franchises as massive as Fallout and Elder Scrolls feels like a waste.

Microsoft have Obsidian but I feel it's Bethesda who just don't want to play ball as they've always said they want to do it themselves.

Once MS bought Zenimax in 2020 they should have put the Outer Worlds 2 on the back burner, allow Bethesda to finish off its own Space RPG with Starfield (despite totally different tone why have two in your first party portfolio with two developers who's gameplay is a tad similar) and got Obsidian for one of their projects to make a spiritual successor to New Vegas.

When the Elder Scrolls VI is finished Bethesda can then onto the main numbered Fallout 5 themselves.

The Outer Worlds 2 started development in 2019 so putting it on the back burner wouldn't have been the end of the world, they'd have always come back to it once Fallout was done and it would have been nicely spaced out from Starfields release once they had most likely stopped supporting it and all the expansions were released.

If they did this back in 2020 when they bought Zenimax and the game had a good, steady 4 - 5 years development, you might have seen it release in 2025.

We are literally going to be waiting until 2030 at the very earliest for Fallout 5 and all they seem bothered about is pushing Fallout 76.

RaidenBlack3h ago(Edited 3h ago)

Its not just only Todd not playing ball.
Obsidian have made a name for themselves in delivering stellar RPGs, but most famous once have always been sequels/spin-offs to borrowed IPs like KOTOR 2, Neverwinter Nights 2, Fallout: New Vegas, Stick of Truth etc.
Obsidian wants to invest more in their own original IPs like Outer Worlds or Pillars of Eternity with Avowed.
Similar to what Bluepoint & inXile wants to do or Kojima is doing (i.e not involving anymore in Konami's IPs).
So yea, even if New Vegas has the most votes from 3D Fallout fans, Obsidian just wants to do their own thing, like any aspiring dev studio and MS is likely currently respecting that.
But a future Fallout game from Obsidian will surely happen. Founder Feargus Urquhart has already stated an year ago that they're eager to make a new Fallout game with Bethesda, New Vegas 2 or otherwise. Urquhart was the director of the very first 1995's Fallout game after all.
And don't forget Brian Fargo and his studio inXile, as Brian Fargo was the director of Fallout's 1988 predecessor: Wasteland
