Playing the bad guy

Xbigy Games Writes: Everyone likes to be an a-hole every now and then. There's a sense of satisfaction and being an absolute d*ck and this idea crosses over into video games. We often lean towards the dark side when booting up our consoles/PC, simply because we can do or say things that we couldn't in the real world.

We purposefully have left off any RPGs like Mass Effect or Fallout from this list, as those stories are tailored by individual playthroughs. Light up the fire, grab pussikins and turn on some classical music; these are the best games where it's good to be bad.

Psychological term for this is called Deindividuation, where a person loses self awareness through groups or behind masks or whatever it may be.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wik...

There is an illusionist named Darren Brown. Sometimes he does experiments on people and he tested this in a episode on his TV series called Darren Brown: The Experiments, episode is called the Gameshow if anyone is interested in watching it.

Really amazing episode, he faked as a show host, set up an entire audience to decide a mans fate for the entire day through elaborate set ups and he had them all wear masks while choosing decisions for this man fate for the day, the audience thought it was all real they never knew it was an experiment, he would then give them option to have something good to happen to the guy they were spying on or have something bad happen to him instead.

Literally every decision they made was based on each others or just based on the fact they knew they could get away with it because no one could see who they are or judge them. So every time he asked them whether to be nice or not they always chose to have something bad happen to this guy they were watching on a screen.

At the end of the episode Darren fakes a scene with this man where the audiences decisions took a turn for the worst and he ends up getting hit by a car.

The entire audience freaks out and they immediately take the masks off once they see the damage they had done but the entire thing was an experiment to test how volatile a human will become when they know their identity is hidden or how they would make bad moral decisions they would never normally make without a mask covering their face. I mean it was griping some people were crying they were so disturbed they had no idea the show was all staged to test the human will or how they react in groups with hidden identities.

He then tells them it was all fake to see how far they would push this man knowing they were causing him harm anyway, the look on all the audiences faces when they realized they were all pawns and they all had did exactly what this psychological syndrome describes.. was just priceless.

It's also a very scary example of the things people are willing to do when they know, no one will catch them or will know about the bad things they have done, it shows how quickly people can become two faced. Many people have really weak minds so that doesn't help them think on their own..

Psychology is one of my majors. I thought reading this article others might be interested in seeing that episode, I thought it was a perfect example of this type of behavior.

Lol disagreeing with that.

I love this place, too long for one to read so why not just disagree eh?

Dude shut the fuck up. People disagree with you cause you wrote this unnecessary speech that nobody cares about. Leave it to your psychology class please.

I usually play the good guy in my video games, but being bad in Mass Effect is just too good to pass up. Case in point:
