What’s up with the Wii U? Nintendo’s console is off to a slow start

VB - While the launch of the Wii U was successful, it seems as though the console has gone dormant at an early age.

Oh you mean like most console launches ever, right? The thing's two months old. The Wii U and Vita will be just fine, once their libraries expand giving people more reasons to buy them.

we will always have doom and gloom articles about Sony and nintendo
no matter what the good they are doing to gamers

The Vita has had a good lineup since launch though. I haven't put it down for more than a couple of days.

My Wii U is essentially a Netflix U, right now. I thought Nintendo having more money would mean more games, but...I can't deal with only one or two good games a year. That happened with the Wii. I don't want to see it happen again!

Phil324104d ago (Edited 4104d ago )

That didn't happen with my Wii system. There were way more than "one or two good games a year." Sorry you didn't find enough titles for your obviously very specific tastes.

After the Nintendo video today I'm thinking it will be my go to machine for JRPG's. the X game looks like its gonna be a great game.

They keep comparing it to the launch of the Wii but they have to take into account that the Wii was much cheaper than the Wii U when it came out. So its normal that the sales are not going to be as fast as the Wiis.

Remember the 3DS in the beginning? The handheld had a horrible library of games in the beginning and it didnt sell as well as Nintendo wanted. So they applied a massive price drop and started to release a ton of games on it. I expect the same to happen to the 3DS and i predict that when the PS4 and the 720 get announced at a similar price point as the Wii U (just like with the Vita) Nintendo will apply a massive price cut in order to remain competitive.

This is one of the reasons why i didnt jump onto a Wii U because after the stunt they pulled with the 3DS its pretty obvious that if the Wii U doesnt sell as well as they want and the other consoles are priced at a similar level Nintendo will apply a massive price cut.

I am going to say this. Look at PS2, PS3, Xbox, 360, and THEN look at Wii U's Numbers the first 3 months...REALLY??? Not issue here.

Fair warning, for every time I've cited decent sales figures courtesy of NPD, I always received a few disagrees at least. Some people refuse to acknowledge facts as oppose to bias.

The Wii U's start is actually faster than the 360 and PS3, but slower than the Wii. It's not anyone's opinion, just the numbers provided.

thaimasker4104d ago

Just like the wide majority of console launches?..Good fucking god you would think people have no memory or means to research

animegamingnerd4104d ago

they may have forgotten since it has been 7 years since this gen started

TruthbeTold4104d ago

Or never knew because they were small children back then...

animegamingnerd4104d ago

first 3DS
second vita
third wii u
i wouldn't be surprise if the PS4 and 720 also have slow starts

Erimgard4104d ago

It's selling faster than the Xbox 360 or PS3 did at their starts. It's slower than the Wii though.

Software sales are they only area where it's truly "slow" and they just had some big announcements today.

Looking Ahead: The Lingering Questions About the Next Mario Kart

VGChartz's Mark Nielsen: "10 years. It’s been almost 10 years since the last mainline release in the Mario Kart series. Mario Kart 8 came out for the Wii U in 2014 and became the best-selling game for the system by a sizeable margin, and later pulled the same magic trick on the Nintendo Switch under the stage name Deluxe. All in all, it's sold nearly 70 million copies over the last decade and is still selling like hot cakes to this day, so it’s no wonder Nintendo has been in no rush to replace it. However, with rumors of a new system being just around the corner, and reports a few years back that a new Mario Kart is indeed under way, it seems the era of 8 might very well be drawing to a close. It’s an exciting prospect to be sure, but after two Nintendo systems with Mario Kart 8 at their heart, a lot of questions remain about how Nintendo will choose to follow it up."

I hope they just keep building on Mario Kart 8; Add a track-creation tool, and probably open it up to more Nintendo IPs with new tracks and characters, so Metroid, Punch Out, Starfox, Animal Crossing, etc etc.

there wont be a new one until the switch 2 comes out.

nintendo needs their bangers early on
