I'm def going to pick up a Wii U this summer. I'm not to excited about Wind Waker HD remake as i have a gamecube with WW. But my god am i excited for a new Zelda, 3d Mario, new Mario Kart, a new smash bros, and a New Yoshi game lol. TBH I did play Wind Waker in full HD about 5 years ago in the dolphin emulator. Just sayin....

This is a remake so they massaged the visuals for sure. Will be good to see it but rather have some more 'new' games as soon as possible

But OOT is probably the highest rated game, console, handheld or otherwise, of all time.

On Metacritic OOT wins out, on gamerankings SMG edges it by a tiny margin. Its right up there.

Lots of good Zelda games. I didn't think Wind Waker was that great to be honest. Thats relative, because it was still better than most other gamecube games, but just not as good as OOT.

Meh Gamecube had Kart, 3D Mario etc and it wasn't enough. Wii sold so well because it was so easy to pick up and play for all generations the WiiU is not that. They want to go back to hardcore gamers again which I feel is a stretch too far. Still time will tell. As for this announcement they probably picked the WORST Zelda game to remake in HD.

I think Sony and Microsoft are both in trouble, and it has nothing to do with Nintendo or the Wii U. Both of their gaming divisions are tanking. Sony is losing money left and right. Had to sell their US headquarters to pay off debts. Lost of 3 Billion last year. Microsoft is in the same boat.

Sony makes super expensive games, then they don't sell anywhere near as good as they need to to be profitable. I'm worried about next generation systems for Sony and Microsoft.

I remember being sceptical of Wind Waker leading up to the release and in the end I loved it. One of the more enjoyable Zelda games in years. This is fantastic for those who never had a chance to play it, but I'd love to revisit that whole world with a new adventure. Gimme Wind Waker 2!

I meant a new console version. I'm not a DS guy so I never played the Phantom Hourglass, plus there's just something about being able to explore those type of world's on a big screen that can't be replicated with a mobile device.

I didn't care for Twilight Princess at all which surprised me. I've loved the Zelda series for years but I don't know if it was just uninspired or if I just didn't like the waggle controls, TP was the first console Zelda game I didn't bother to complete.

A sequel to Majora's Mask would be welcome though.

I love my NES, SNES, N64, Game Cube, Wii and WiiU but come on this an extremely visual medium. It's funny I actually thought Wind Waker ran perfect as just a piece of software but back in the old GCN days believe me this was a huge game. I apologize if I sounded too brash in my first post. I just think all the time, money and resources being put into this project would be much better spent ya know....making new games. Games that don't revolve around Zelda or Mario. I want to really like Nintendo, I just can't get past the narrow minded nature of their franchises. It can look as pretty as it wants, it's still an old game on new hardware. The Wii U has new tech, make NEW games that utilize and compliment the hardware it's running on. It just seems like such a waste :( I'm sick of seeing such exciting new technology being used for nothing more than making essentially old games look better. I just want the software to be as innovative and ambitious as the hardware it's running on and stretch beyond simply 'looking good'

it's not like you won't have a game to play in the next few months before E3. there's still Lego City, Injustice Gods Among Us, Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, The Wonderful 101, Resident Evil Revelations, etc.

Come fall there's the Wind Waker Remake, and chances are in the next few months we'll be hearing more, seeing there's still some more 3rd parties who have yet to announce their projects.

Seems like a lot of people here don't understand what an HD master is versus an actual remake.

It's not like an HD collection on 360 or PS3 where all they have done is increased the resolution and cleaned up some textures. If you watch the video you see that it's a whole new art style, which means EVERY asset had to be remade from scratch. What you think they just took the graphics, upped the resolution and clicked on some magic button that said Windwaker / Skyward Sword Art Filter and presto - this came about?

This is not a lazy port, this game will look completely redesigned. I, for one, am super excited about this game, as I loved playing it on the Gamecube and it was one of the under-appreciated Zelda titles due to its original cell-shaded art style upsetting some.

disappointing! Wind Waker is by far the worst Zelda in the series. I finished all of them and apart from the amazing graphics, Wind Waker is a boring game with extremely short and few castles.
Lots of you will disagree but at least say why cause that sail around the world map to find 8 triforce pieces was a pain in the ass for example.

Zelda is famous for its castles and freedom. WW there are 5 castles and each one can be finish under an hour i think it's a shame.

Sailing is boring when you wanna reach a far island it takes forever and i disliked the passivity during sailing phases and turning the wind direction all the time.

But it's by far the most beautiful Zelda game and the artistic designis amazing.

This is my opinion on it but people dislike and they dont say why.

@abzdine I know its more like an opinion, but for me Wind Waker improved on many aspects: It introduced new combat abilities, it had better character development(especially for Tetra/Zelda), more items, was more tactical and required more strategy for puzzles and battles,boss battles were varied and creative, and was just plain fun to play. OOT is a masterpiece, but people should get past their nostalgia and realize, that the Zelda series has improved a lot since then(I've not played skyward sword yet)

it's because it's not an HD collection, it's being remade. When Sony does an HD collection they take the same game and up the resolution to like 720p. Everything remains the same. As I said previously, all the assets for this Zelda game are redesigned because it's not simply an increase in resolution. There is an entirely new artistic style and graphical touch being applied here as the game looks to have a hybrid Windwaker / Skyward Sword look to it. And that is not something you just click a button to convert. A lot more work and polish will be going into this remake over an HD collection that you are accustomed to.

I was meaning "wow" in the context of the entire Nintendo Direct (although I'm kinda wowing at all the individual bits as well) but I can appreciate you not being too thrilled about Wind Waker Reborn if you've played the GCN copy through twice.

Luckily I haven't: I borrowed Wind Waker for the Wii but unfortunately I had to give it back before I was even 30% (at a guess) of the way through...

WHy WInd Waker? This is bogus. Wii U needs to appeal to other gamers besides it's fanboys and show off some original fresh games and all it's put forward so far is mini games, side scrollers and sequels that have been done time and time again and people eat it up like their poop is made of chocolate. SHow off an Original Star Fox game or a sequel to DOnkey King 64...hell Metroid or the Legend of Zelda tech demo that was beautiful. You just rely on Mario and safe side scrollers to get them sales..it's the same thing that happened with the wii. Im sick of it..Nintendo is on my shit list. Disagree with me but it's only because you know it's true. Pikmin 3 and Smash Bros( which has yet to be seen so it could potentially suck) are the only games we've been promised that promise something fresh..Nintendo has disappointed me greatly today.

You realize that windwaker is like 10 years old now and pretty much one of the best zelda games/best gamecube games every made. It's almost like a gift to the fans and it'll be a gift to all the gamers out there who never tried out this wonderful game for one reason or another.It's not gonna be just HD graphics, it's remade to use the wi u to its potentially this isn't gonna be like pikmin 2 wii. They also made it clear that a totally new Zelda(with a new style and new gameplay conventions) is currently still in the works. This is just an appetizer so to speak for more to come. In my opinion it's better than having no zelda on wii u at all for the next 1 1/2-2 years. It's a smart move by nintendo and it's also great news for current and prospective wii u owners.

Does anyone remember the GBA connectivity where you would use your GBA screen to help find sea treasure and stuff?

When Wind Waker was announced, and we learned that it was going to be Cell Shade. I was bummed, but then because I really like Zelda games, I picked it up. My opinion an hour into the game completely changed. I was very impressed with the direction Nintendo went with Zelda, they used the GameCubes power and made the game look and play GREAT. With the pics of the game on Wii U, I am looking forward to seeing this game and playing through it once again. It is worth my time and money. They have added allot in the graphics department.

I love Wind Waker. I would love to play it again but my PS3 backlog is too big so imagine all the Wii U title I want to play. My brother has a Wii and they have 2 Marios and a Zelda I have to play. Too many games to little time.

A new Zelda game is closer to what I am waiting for with the WiiU but then it comes down to controls. The Wiimote controls on the Wii Zelda games just ruined it. Call me old school but I enjoyed numerous Zelda games from the very first (OK Zelda 2 on the NES sucked) with just a controller. If a new WiiU Zelda allows me to play with just the game pad and some touch screen then I'm in. HD remake will be neat but I need more to draw me in. My Wii collects dust and doesn't draw me in like my Ps3 and 360 do. But am not against getting the Wii U, just don;t need another dust collector

Another thing is why do other ports, HD rereleases, or remakes get brushed off to the side by most people, but Nintendo ports or remakes a game and it's the best thing to happen since sliced bread.

Wind Waker HD is cool, but I was more interested in what they were saying about their future project. It sounds like this next game aims to challenge some core conventions of the Zelda series. It looks like this will continue what SS started in terms of branching away from the OoT format.

WHO THE HELL CARES ABOUT A HD REDO OF A 5yr OLD GAME, THAT WAS AVERAGE (for a Zelda game), back then.
Nintendo better come up with some better things than HD remakes of WORST-IN-SERIES games.
Nintendo are gonna crash hard if they don't start coming up with NEW IP's, instead of countless, going through the motions, Mario games, as well as a Zelda & Metroid every 10yrs (ones worth playing, anyhow).

I can't wait for PS Orbis & Xbox Durango Unchained, I own a Wii-U, yet I can't wait for Sony's & MS's "real" next gen offerings, as Nintendo's just feels like another rip off Wii experience (but hopefully this time won't suck in the mindless copycat casuals, soccer mums & such).
If Nintendo are just gonna keep treating us like idiots, like they did to all the 3rd party publishers for all those years NES & SNES reigned that now want nothing to do with Nintendo hardware, people will eventually wake up & give there products a wide birth.

Nintendo seem so far out of touch with the Nintendo I used to religiously play games of, that I believe they should bow right out of the home console business, & concentrate on what the hell they are gonna do about there handhelds & there impending doom due to the smartphone revolution, & they should just start making games for the other home consoles, & maybe partner up with Samsung or the like with a SmartBoy phone.

The Wii-U is floundering, & floundering hard.....and I have my own, plus one I bought for my kids (that they never use, in fact, my 6yr old boy prefers playing PS2 over it).
And, the reason I am so dissapointed is, that the media hyped up this incredible launch lineup, that was dominated by multiplat ports that offered no significant enhancements, & in some cases suffered performance issues that PS3 & 360 version did not suffer.
Only 1 or 2 of these ports (at best) made any half decent use of the Wii-U control pad, & even the best of those were still only half assed.
So, in reality, Wii-U is now known to be no more powerful than the 7yr old Xbox360, it has a handful of games, of which only 2 are good only (Mario & Zombi-U), not even great, the rest of there lineup is available on all other platforms & in most cases has been released months before Wii-U even launched, & in EVERY supposedly "enhanced" Wii-U versions case, they look & act no better than PS3/360 versions.

So, even the most staunch Nintendo fan must admit, Nintendo are screwing up!!! The media absolutely hammered Sony for PS3 & in nearly all cases it was unjustified &/or blown way out of proportion, yet, Nintendo again, are given a free pass & given barely a skerrick of negative press or grief over the fact that they have overpriced an underpowered machine once again with Wii-U, & even worse, they rushed it out with a crappy 2D Mario hack, & hardly a game worth mentioning, let alone anything that will last the test of time. I hope Nintendo come up with something miraculous fast, as they are joking, & screwing us all with what this Wii-U has offered so far. Hell, my PS3 is way better & is copping far more use, so it would be nice if Ninty would give us early adoptors a reason not to sell this potential Dreamcast 2, before it's too late.

Here's what I want all the Sony fans to do that keep throwing around these exclusive IP's they are making. Go look at the sales of Sony's exclusive games and compare them to all of the poor, buggy 3rd party crap and come back here! People keep on and keep on talking about these games, but yet are hypocrites for not buying them like they should be. Sony makes great games, but how long do you think they will keep putting out these games just to watch people run out and buy a buggy version of Skyrim. Its just sickens me to see people use all of these exclusives in their arguments against the likes of say Microsoft, but at least people support games like Halo and Gears. For all the awards that UC has won there is absolutely no reason for this series not to sell like Halo does!
