Sucker Punch interested in creating inFamous 3, but does not confirm its development

Say they are very happy with their working relationship with Sony. -
The development team behind the recent serious Sly or inFamous, Sucker Punch, has declared himself very satisfied with the working relationship we have with Sony, and therefore do not rule develop in the near future the third installment of its successful series of games inFamous action.

"We'll see where we go next," says the study's co-founder, Bruce Oberg, the average British Eurogamer when asked about the possibility of creating inFamous 3. "We have a great relationship with them [Sony] and adore the PlayStation platform. Not lying when I say that for us is a killer technology platform to work with. "Moreover, he continues," the media, marketing, and also the approach, allowing us to make the game we want to do is really incredible. "

Do not forget either that the license Sony inFamous rests not on its creators, who have stated that it was "a small price to pay" for the "freedom to make the game you want."

one of the most underrated new ips this gen

the mind boggles what sucker punch can do with infamous 3 on the ps4!!!

Ezz20134101d ago

it's not underrated
it's an awesome games sold very well and scored very well too

can't wait for infamous 3 on ps3 or ps4

IAMERROR4101d ago

I actually agree with you. Not underrated, sure it's no Gran Turismo/God of War in terms of sales but it does sell decently well (over 1mill). Scoring mid-80s on MC isn't bad at all.

Campy da Camper4101d ago

The only franchise i have plats or 100% (festival) in. This series is proably my most favorite series this gen.

admiralvic4101d ago (Edited 4101d ago )

@ IAMERROR

While it might not have an insane number of sales, you have to factor in freebies too. inFAMOUS was offered as part of Welcome Back in the US and Europe too (I think EU anyway), plus inFAMOUS 2 has been part of US / Europe Plus since E3 (thats 6 / 7 months!). So I find it hard to believe the series is really "underrated" when most people are making a choice not to play them. (lets be fair here, Sony has been pushing Plus for a while now and many people have access to friends accounts, so a good percent of people have had access to at least 1 of these games for free for some period of time.)

nveenio4101d ago

I love that they say, "We'll see where we go next." They've been done with inFamous 2 for a long time now. They're working on SOMETHING, for sure.

inFamous 1 & 2 are my only platinum-ed games. Great fun.

I got Infamous: Collection. And in my opinion the series are not underrated. They are pretty decent, but not great. Sure they have a great concept, but Sucker Punch do not use it.

Red_Orange_Juice4101d ago

you sure live up to your name dude

Daver4101d ago

Infamous 1 was a lot better than 2 in my opinion but I hope they make a third anyway.

dgonza404101d ago

It was pretty neck and neck. The graphics were a lot better in 2, but 1 had a stronger twist. On the other hand, 2 did a better job of having me invested in the characters and the endings were a lot stronger. I think the gameplay refinements and added powers in 2 was what made it that much better than 1. Personal opinion, though.

What sucks is them not keeping the original voice actor and character design of the first game

4101d ago
JewyMcJew4101d ago

I tend to agree. While the graphics on 2, specially particle effects, were fantastic, the addition of melay combat really hurt the experience.

Still one of my favorite games of all time due solely to its 'fun factor'.

Daver4101d ago

@dgonza40

The graphics were of course better, the story tho? not at all not even the endings. The twists in the first one made the story a lot better, the boss at the end, there was many more nice cutscenes which the 2nd was lacking. I like the new powers tho but it was maybe a bit too much and the 2 characters which gives the new abilities were lame.

Im not saying it was a bad game because I am a fan of this IP, I just didnt have the great feeling like when I have played the first 1.

2pacalypsenow4101d ago (Edited 4101d ago )

they made the 2nd one too big and confusing at least for me but still im working on my plat for it :-)

stage884101d ago

I have to agree. I much preferred Infamous 1. I got it free with the Welcome Back programme and really kicked myself for not getting it sooner. It is one of my fav games this gen and I have the platinum as well as completing it multiple times.

@th3n00bg4m3r

Your name says it all my friend. inFamous is definitely one of the better ip's to come out this gen. I for one can not wait for the next installment.

th3n00bg4m3r4101d ago

Climbing is not advanced, dialogues are cheesy, characters doesn't have their own personalty they just get ill and lay around on the street, they also doesn't do a lot of activities they just walk, get ill or drive, that is about it and...ETC that I forgot to mention.

BlaqMagiq244101d ago (Edited 4101d ago )

@th3n00bg4m3r

Climbing is not advanced? There aren't a lot of games where you can climb almost anything maybe aside from the Assassin's Creed games.

Dialogue is cheesy? I didn't see anything wrong with it. It sounds realistic enough to me and you can definitely see the personalities in the characters.

As for the people that are ill and laying on the street they're like that for a reason. Remember the explosion that killed thousands and made others sick?

They don't do many activities except for getting ill and drive because they're normal people. What did you expect them to do? Have powers like Cole?

You don't have good reasons here.

BlackPrince 424101d ago

@th3n00bg4m3r

I'm sorry but that couch scene in 2 was just perfect. Perfect characterization between two guys.

th3n00bg4m3r4101d ago

@BlaqMagiq24
Climbing is super easy, just smash the X button and you will never fail, the animations are average too. The climbing is not as advanced as Uncharted for example.
And when I said characters I mean the minor ones. Play Red Dead Redemption and you will see what I mean.
I remember the explosion but cmon the characters do like 3 activities. And there isn't a lot of interaction.

Hopefully they create a new IP first.

IAmLee4101d ago

oh dear god. they need to make this happen. InFamous is a quality series so far, and can only get better..

animegamingnerd4101d ago

i am gonna go as far as to say ifamous was sony's best new IP is gen

Rainstorm814101d ago

That's Uncharted for me personally ,but hopefully they do a third infamous the first two were excellent.

Tontus4101d ago

LittleBigPlanet for me personally.

Y_51504101d ago

InFamous totally shocked my interest when I first heard of it. I was beyond hyped. It delivered tremendously, it's not just my favorite new Sony IP this gen. It's my favorite Sony IP ever!

Sorry I'm a huge inFamous fan. :P

DigitalAnalog4101d ago (Edited 4101d ago )

I disagree. I doubt the budget for this game exceeds that of Uncharted and that game was made with only 20 million dollars. If anything, it's received extremely well as a new IP franchise this gen.

Tontus4101d ago

What Uncharted game cost just $20 million? The first? Maybe. I know the second one cost more than double that and the 3rd was A LOT more than the second. Almost $8,000,000 of UC3's budget was spent on marketing in the UK alone... Imagine how much marketing worldwide itself cost let alone the cost to develop the game.

The inFAMOUS games don't seem very expensive to make, they may not sell blockbuster numbers like Gran Turismo or God of War but it's obviously making money for Sony otherwise they wouldn't have bought the studio.

DigitalAnalog4101d ago

No, the developers did state that all the Uncharted(s) aside from GA all run in the same budget more or less. It's just that the first game had more resources into building the engine.

ATi_Elite4101d ago

Infamous = 2.55

Infamous 2 = 1.52

Sucker punch needs to find a way to make Infamous a Exclusive that gamers wanna buy and not just RENT!

I say add more RPG elements to it to go along with the Huge sandbox and fast pace action.

showtimefolks4101d ago

Sucker punch have such a small team yet they make such great games. At one time DO team was under 50 people and now I think it's still under 100

Can't wait to find out what they have been doing since infamous 2

bobtheimpaler4101d ago

I still need to finish part 2 and get all trophies for both games.

It's an excellent series and I can't wait to see what they would do with part 3.

maximaz4101d ago

Give me all the thumbdowns you want but I'll just come out and say it - I hated Infamous. The story took itself so seriously, it overflowed with cheese, the writing was laughably game-y, plot was convoluted, the characters cartoony, the action was boring as all hell (basically a gun replaced by lightning, including a freaking sniper rifle, which doesnt even sound fun), the enemy variety was close to none, climbing was tedious (the process itself), interaction with NPCs was nearly non-existent, side missions were all completely bare-bones and uninteresting, etc. After playing Lara Croft and the Guardian of light, I was bored out of my mind with this game. My honest opinion.

Conzul4101d ago

by the end of inFamous 1 I realized that what the game needed most is a dynamic destruction system, like DMM or Frostbite or similar.

Those powers were just begging to tear up the world!

IAmLee4101d ago

He has electrical powers, not mind control? :')

jocomat94101d ago

well he can read electric pulsesw left in dead people minds so its a possibility. Imo there should be flying or teleportation in the next one

HarryMasonHerpderp4101d ago

Infamous would make an awesome comic book or TV series.
Cole is just a really cool super hero (unless you're evil).
Would love to see the IP being used in different media.

DragonKnight4101d ago

InFamous 1 would make a kickass movie in my opinion. If they followed the story from the game exactly, then they'd have a good story I think. It'd also be a good example of a game and a movie about the game actually being good.

HarryMasonHerpderp4101d ago (Edited 4101d ago )

Would be so cool if they actual did that.
SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS
The start of the game is a really good set up for a movie, where Cole's just delivering that package doing his day job then BOOM!
Cole coming to terms with his new powers and some funny banter with Zeke, the fight with Sasha, Zeke betraying Cole with the Ray Sphere, fight with Kessler, Trish's death, oh man it would make an awesome movie. It could end with the Beast turning up too ready for the sequel.

@j86blum
Never knew that 0_0
will be picking them up! thanks for the info =)

J86blum4101d ago

The game is based off two series of comic books, DMZ and No mans land, and then there was six issues of inFamous comic book. Maybe those will hold you over for a bit.

HeavenlySnipes4101d ago

There is a mini series of comic books detailing what happened in between InFanous 1 and 2.

It deals with Sasha, Alden etc

I would have preferred they put that in the game because people that jump from InFanoys to InFamous 2 will be left wondering why all past ties are no longer discussed

creeping judas4101d ago

Campy da Camper4101d ago

TheFreak4101d ago (Edited 4101d ago )

They ruined Cole's voice it's really shit and the game is way too easy imo. Still a good game, but expected a little more.

DO IT SUCKER PUNCH! We need more inFamous. Even if it's someone other than Cole McGrath you could make it based on Cole's legacy if need be. I love the inFamous series, Kessler was one of the best villains of this gen. He represented a true grey scale that you do often see in games. At least Sucker Punch want to do it, so that's good. It may not be confirmation that it's in development, but to me it's confirmation that it will likely be in development one day. Sucker Punch are truly quality developers and among the few that actually listen to fans.

Conzul4101d ago

Glad they want to make 3, I don't think I can ever get enough of the inFamous franchise.

DragonKnight4101d ago

Nor can I. The inFamous series is one of my favourites of the gen. In a gen filled with terrible games, terrible media, and the "accessibility" effect, it's great to see that developers like Sucker Punch can still knock one out of the park. I would like to see an inFamous game with a different power. Maybe flame based. Now that would be epic. Hurling fireballs around, created flaming tornadoes, that kind of thing.

Redemption-6411d ago

@Cacabunga
You only speak for you and those who think like you, but most fans will support what they want. Playstation and PC fans are literally supporting Helldivers 2 and that is a gaas. Maybe you wouldn't, but many more would if they like it.

Huey_My_D_Long11d ago

@Redemption-64
Look, Im not making any judgement calls about this guy, but I will say that Helldivers 2 GaaS model is unique to Helldivers, and legit the only other game I can think of thats similiar was the Avengers game except HD2 pass is still better.
The fact that you can earn in game currency in a way that doesnt make you feel like you have to grind forever, as well you being able work on that pass that you bought...on your own time without a time limit...that right there is fucking huge to me, and I can't name any game other than avengers that avoided trapping players with FOMO logic...I think GaaS on HD2 shouldn't be compared to the rest of the industry...it should be copied.

Einhander197211d ago

Cacabunga

Helldivers 2...

Redemption-64

In Europe it's a 60 40 split favoring PC.
In the US its a 60 40 split favoring PS5.

So PlayStation owners supported the game just fine, it's not getting carried by PC or anything like that.

FinalFantasyFanatic11d ago

@just_looken,
I'm perfectly fine with the way Nintendo entered the mobile market, I never touched their mobile games, meanwhile, the console/handheld stayed the way it is. As for being a bean counter, he's probably going to reel in these massive budgets that Sony's studios have had lately, I haven't played Spiderman 2, but I cannot see how they almost tripled the budget for that game.

@Redemption-64,
That's an exception to the rule, I'm expecting a lot of these GAAS games from Sony to fail, to be fair, they only need a few to succeed, but I would have preferred that they put more of their resources into other types of games.

DivineHand12511d ago

True their monetization is driving players away and at the same time, their decision to chop out content and convoluted systems is keeping new players away from the game.

Joe91311d ago

I don't think that will happen based on how things worked out at Naughty Dog now that we know what we do, seems they had the option to fully commit to live service games or stay making single player experences so they gave up on their live service game. We are not sure how things came about with Bend making a live service game but I hope that was not a forced situation. Sony doesnt seem like they are forcing studios to switch up but we will see, Sony's bread and butter is single player games it is how they dominated the console market.

Obscure_Observer11d ago

Yeah, I though Sony learned something from all their failures in the LS segment under Bungie´s disastrous leadership and supervision which led to games been cancelled, studios closed and all the people laid off.

Looks like Bungie still plays a major role in Sony´s LS initiative and Sony is not backtracking on their GaaS plans.

S2Killinit11d ago (Edited 11d ago )

Are we forgetting that Destiny is also a highly successful franchise? I feel like that definitely deserves mention here.

Besides, there is no reason why a person cant learn from past experiences.

Joe91310d ago

I agree, people act as if Destiny flopped when it came out lol it took 9 to 10 years for the numbers to fall yet people are still playing it add the success of Helldivers 2 no wonder Sony is going forward down this path.

S2Killinit10d ago

Personally, I see no problem with Sony also having service games as long as they make good ones, and more importantly they deliver the AAA story driven games that they are known for. So yeah, I agree 100% with you.

+ Show (2) more repliesLast reply 10d ago
Christopher11d ago

I mean, this person made some pretty bad decisions at Bungie. I hope they've learned from them because I definitely don't see those type of ideas as good for PlaySation in general.

CrimsonWing6910d ago (Edited 10d ago )

Honestly, what’s to learn from? How to make people happily continuously dump money into a single game over its life-time? Buy season passes continuously for several years with a smile on our faces?

GaaS is a design decision that is everything wrong with this industry. The fact that Helldivers 2 did so well and people defend the monetization because it was $40 and is a fun game, scares the sh*t out of me to see that the door is open and all shift will probably be to replicate that in future games. We already know the ROI for traditional game dev cost isn’t doing it for them.

I thought with Jimbo leaving we’d see a change for the better… I’m not so sure now.

S2Killinit10d ago

Service games are being offered by everyone. Sony cannot afford to only create single player AAA games. No one can. They already said they will be doing both.

Abnor_Mal11d ago (Edited 11d ago )

Ps5 gamers in 2023 seemed to play more live service types of games, so regardless to how people feel about them, numbers don’t lie and Sony is going where the money is. I mean look at the excitement around Helldivers2, people are showing that they want live service games.

Christopher11d ago

They play long-time existing live service games like CoD, Fortnite, Apex Legends, Destiny 2, and the like. Mass majority of new live service games are considered failures and aren't moving gamers away from older games.

just_looken11d ago

Yep the huge issue with live service is they need paid players along with a reason to play them.

You forgot mobile market that also taps into that player base as well as the eve online style games there is only a certain amount of krakens/whales blind supporters compared to the amount of live service games we have its not sustainable math wise.

700 restaurants making food for every seat for 1000-3000 eaters just does not work out

Einhander197211d ago (Edited 11d ago )

Christopher

I am not a big live service fan and literally own zero of the games you listed, but that is not true, unless you call games that aren't the top games to be failures.

There are tons of live service games that are profitable.

Games don't have to be the biggest game ever they just need to make more than they cost.

I challenge you to show professionally prepared data that shows that more live service games fail than make enough to keep going.

Because all the data that I have seen shows that live service is less of a gamble than making a big AAA budget game which needs to survive off retail sales.

FinalFantasyFanatic11d ago

I sometimes wonder if we're at saturation point, where it's hard for a new game to join those ranks unless it's particularly exceptional, people only have so much time and money to devote to these types of games.

romulus2311d ago

Correction, they have no issue playing good live service games

shinoff218311d ago

Lol it's not even a quarter of the ps5s sold. Helldivers may have been a hit but let's not say most are enjoying it because truth is most(the real most ) don't care about it.

S2Killinit10d ago (Edited 10d ago )

I play what is fun. If a live service game is good I’ll play it as long as its not a money scheme which Helldivers is not.

And Im a single player gamer.

mastershredder11d ago

How do you kill a franchise that already been killed?
Destiny’s grind, cash-in-on-playbass-cha-Ching, and pop-culture-insertion mainstream-me-too bs totally killed any rep Bungie had. Sony/Bungie, if you are doing this to ward-off players, it’s already working.
