Electronic Arts (EA) CEO Andrew Wilson comments on how a former competitor is now building a Battlefield "for the future."
They keep breaking promises, Dice is not the devs they used to be. I remember during BFBC2 release DICE telling hiphopgamer, anyone remember him, they would never charge for dlc maps like other companies started to do. They didn't want to seperate the community, they said. Then they released paid dlc later for BFBC2, Vietnam maps.
Jesus man this guy
Everything he’s said about the next Battlefield just screams how tone dead he actually is about the franchise
He seems to be repeating the same mistakes
I am hoping that Zampella brings his magic and delivers an awesome experience.
Imagine if Respawn got Medal of Honor? And then they make a proper COD competitor with it? Daaaamn.
If making BadCompany 3 is not possible anymore ... Just make a new Battlefield 2 in 2024, ffs !
It doesn't matter what they call it, the current EA/DICE are not capable of making a decent battlefield game. Slapping "Bad Company" on it isn't going to change that
My friends got BF 2042 day 1 and only as able to get a refund on PS5 because of how broken the ame was that EVEN SONY WAS GIVING REFUNDS lol. Telling you now they arent BF fans anymroe 2042 was the last strike for them and me
THE GAME BATTLEFIELD as the long time fans remember from the glory days of Battlefield 2, 3 and 4 is dead.
I remember all the way back in BF3 days people said that in a couple of years it will be Battlefield vs COD on the top battling for dominion over our computers.
If not the next BF goes back to what made Battlefield the game it was (aka BF2/3/4) This franchise is dead.
EA knows it and after this.... If its not selling.
I would not be surprised the slightest if they put the whole franchise in the burner.
Im happy I got to enjoy this franchise in its glory days. I had 10+ years of great fun playing BF 2/3 and 4. Its sad that the franchise have turned into what it is now but it is what it is sadly.
This is the problem with Battlefield fans. We all agree the series used to be good and that they got away from what made it great, but we can't agree on which old games were the good ones. I mean, for a lot of people on here "classic Battlefield" means 24-player maps on 360/PS3.
If they made a game in the vein of 1942 right now, it would instantly become my favorite game. I also know it would struggle to maintain a player base without a progression system, gun unlocks, skins, seasons, constant updates, and all the other modern garbage that I hate but that other people seem to view as necessary for a multiplayer game these days.
Don’t even need to see the next and already know where it’s heading. Definitely won’t be pre ordered this thing. Battlefield is no longer Battlefield.
Another faild Battlefield coming right up, Same Bull ishShssss they said last time, and the time before that, they are always Doing a new -insert fake marketing words here- a reimagined Battlefield with Smaller wider scope of close up fire fights with new gun dynamics and gun focus A.K.A gun lag...
Truth be told they have no idea what went wrong with Battlefield so how in the world would they be able to fix it...
I played the first ever battlefield back on Xbox -Battlefield 2: Modern Combat- and I have bought and played everyone up to present day / And I'm finally done, no more BS field for me... You guys really killed a good game. Maybe it was greed maybe it was stupidity, either way I know for a fact they can't fix the game. Bad Company 2 and battlefield 3 will go down as the last time Battlefield was Battlefield and was actually a good game.
No they're not. I'm sure they think they are, but I bet they're once again building some highly ambitious always online MMO GAAS monstrosity where teams of 500 people each can run, drive, fly, shoot etc on massive MASSIVE maps, and they'll call it Battlefield and assume it will be a major hit.
And, to me, that's not what I want from Battlefield. I just want medium-sized teams (24-32) on medium sized cool maps, playing short rounds (20-30 minutes) of 5-flag Conquest. That's it. That's all.
Not sure how that remains so difficult to understand for the suits at EA.
Where can we email this guy? We all need to send a friendly email stating: THIS ISNT WHAT BF FANS WANT. THIS. ISNT. WHAT. WE. WANT.
My goodness, how does such a vague ambiguous comment strike such fear and apprehension in my heart
I played 2042 on the ps5 last night for the first time in 5 months and I deleted it in less than 5 minutes because of the input lag
Yea the future model of gaming needs to go back to the traditional model you know how things used to be. Well at least larian studios see it that way
According to EA boss Andrew Wilson, the next Battlefield game will be a "reimagination as a truly connected ecosystem."
“The launch of Battlefield 2042 did not meet expectations,” EA CEO Andrew Wilson said during the earnings call.
The next Battlefield Game Will Be a “Reimagination as Truly Connected Ecosystem,”
+"Wilson’s statements are right in line with what Wilson shared back in May, where the CEO mentioned how they are not just building a new Battlefield game but a platform to drive live services to come."
Triple AAA live service games are dogshit.
How can they go from BF1 to BF5 to BF2042.. all I can think of is all the talent jumped ship and the games got progressively worse.
BF1 was amazing in everyway apart from the lack of guns, equipment and customization, but the atmosphere was second to none.
BF5 was a good game not amazing but let down by the woke EA management "don't like it dont buy it" really hurt the game.
2042 was a disaster in everyway all the Devs from the previous games must of had enough
Do you even know what "woke" means? Or are you just doing what the majority of the right wingers do and using it as a substitute for the word "bad"? lol...
Yes frosty, most people know the original meaning of the slang "woke" but since its a mindset that's been hijacked in large part by a bunch of people who do more harm than good with their stupid backwards ill conceived ideological policies -well Yes now its become a term that has also been hijacked to push back against all the self righteous entitlement BS & nonsense they spew, & when you know, you know.
As for the next BF, I dont have alot of confidence when I hear "live service"...but we'll see.
Andrew Wilson is well behind. No one is buying into this crap anymore, we are fed up with social media and connections made online, just make a good game, can't be that difficult for game developers with so much history and experience.
ffs, EA .... just make a modern Battlefield 2 aka BF2: Reboot
followed by Bad Company 3 and Black 2.
And shareholders will further force these practices as long as people keep buying this kind of dribble. They don’t care what gamers enjoy.
They do learn, but not in the way that we as consumers would like. They only look at things from a business perspective and learn what the best ways are to milk the most money for maximum profit. Unfortunately making quality games like in the old days does not generate enough profit to fuel their hunger for money. Garbage like "live service" tends to be a lot more effective at that. So they'll keep experimenting until they get it right.
the problem are the incentives for these type of games when they do succeed. When companies are making 3x or more the money [quarterly] off MTs, Battle Passes, etc, than they do selling the actual games, they have every incentive to push this bs.
It's a model that can work for some games, but I think by and large this is something where a majority of gamers are fatigued because it's always the same ill conceived bs. Time grinds, hamster wheels, lack of content when released, the games themselves not being that good or thought out for the long term....
Seriously, game is in every way what BF used to be, and somehow 3 guys figured out what hundreds of staff and hundreds of millions in analytics and development could not at EA. It's really not that hard
but no matter how hated, Battlefield makes more money than Battlebit ever will. that's the sad part
I appreciate Battlebit as a concept, but it's really nowhere near as good as the old Battlefield games. Other than 2042, I'd rather just play any of the BF games that still has a player base (4, 1, or 5) than it. I have some friends playing who never played the Bad Company games and this is their first experience with Rush (they really only played 4 and 1 and just played Conquest, and otherwise have always played COD), which pains me because Rush on Battlebit is a pale imitation of BFBC-BF3.
Who TF asked for BF to be an "Ecosystem"? good lord talk about out of touch. I hope it bombs even harder till they get the damn message.
It seems like maybe the past decade everything got worse. Remember when Pizza Hut was shaped like a hut? Remember when McDonald's had so much color, and playgrounds with Nintendo systems? Everything is grey and minimalist and square now because that's what corporate professional people want. I hate to say it but I wish the power went to the CEOs or atleast someone close to them that had the original vision. Shareholders are responsible for all this laziness, only caring about how much profit they make, which is the whole point of a business, but you don't have to cut the good stuff just because you can find a few rich sharks willing to donate thousands for a bad game. Quality and profit should be the motto for every single business.
Yeah try 2 decades imo it may be getting older and rose coloured glasses or nostalgia but ever since apple made everything minimalist the world changed and not always for the better
Smdh. Just make another BF4 or even 3 successor. You guys are not making the right decisions. Unbelievable. Do they not do research? Get on some game sites or forums or something. If not BF is going to continue to fail
And now here's that same statement made in 2021 before the last battlefield really gave everyone a connected experience
https://www.google.com/amp/...
"Huh our live service games didn't do so well. Guess we better make it more live service than before"
Andrew Wilson doesn't know how to do anything else. He launched himself into leadership through microtransactions and live game services. So EA are bound to do the same thing hoping for something different.
How about: forget about ecosystems, platforms, “connectedness,” and every other scheme meant to milk customers. Just make a really great Battlefield game, and people will buy it.
And then in a few weeks, everyone will start crying about how the devs aren't supporting the game enough. I mean, BF5 got new maps for like a year and a half, and when they stopped putting new content in, people declared the game dead and said DICE abandoned it. Apart from 4, that was the longest amount of support a BF game got, and yet still people were mad. The sad reality now is that, despite what people say about live service, that's what they actually play, and any game that isn't operated as a live service gets declared dead.
The ambiguity of that statement and buzzwordy nonsense nature say it all.
We should all be concerned 😂
My friends got burned by 2042 they got it day 1 on Ps5.... insane man all we wanted was that battlefield feleing and its gone just like the COD feeling everything is a live service now with a price tag and battlepass i mean come o nloo kat cod they selling u a 30$ BP now is insane
What is the last multiplayer shooter that was not a live service that maintained a significant player base for longer than 3-6 months?
If you haven't noticed the pattern yet then let me point it out. They start by hyping up yet another game with buzz words. Promising for it to be something that you'll be playing a long time. Release a broken game with barely any content. Try to hook you into continuing to play by promising support, often described as "free updates". Rob you of 70 bucks, wait a couple years, announce a new one, rinse/repeat.
They don't want to commit, because the goal is to put in as little effort into making a game so they can then make back millions more from sales and mtx. Notice just how many BF's have flopped and yet they still push for the same "service" model. If they were losing money they'd really rethink their strategy.
How many have flopped? 2042 is probably the only true flop. BF1 sold very well. BFV sales missed expectations, but it still sold over 7 million copies in its first 6 weeks, which is not what it should have done, but hardly "flop" numbers. So besides 2042 what games are you talking about here? Hardline? 2142?
Flopped as in their GaAS plans, which there is no actual plan. Flopped as in they intentionally botch their games, disappointing fans with every release. BF4, BF1, V, 2042 have all released in a horrible state, each ruined more and more by their push for "service". Then of course you have Battlefront which they tried to do the same.
"Reimagination as Truly Connected Ecosystem"
I just want the servers to work at launch.
They better have those Beyonce skins ready. My wallet is burning just thinking about it...
More buzzwords and tired EA marketing talk.
Heard it after BF3 rocky launch, and again after BF4 rocky launch and again after BFV and now 2042, last BF game I'll ever buy.
The two clashing titans: COD and BF are a long way from their glory days OF COD4 and Bad Company 2, sadly.
Seems they still don’t understand that we just want a Battlefield game. 5-flag Conquest mode, 4 good balanced different classes, and 10-12 gorgeous and fun maps.
That’s it. Nothing else. No 5000 folks running around on a country-sized map, no ‘truly connected eco-system’, no ‘games-as-a-service’, no ‘perks’, no zombie-mode, no Battle Royale mode, etc etc.
Just Battlefield. Good old Battlefield
Part of the issue is that everyone wants "Good old Battlefield," but we can't even agree on what that was. Some people insist 4 was the pinnacle, while others just talk about how broken it was and how 3 was much better. Some people think Bad Company 2 was the best, but the old PC Battlefield fans scoff at the idea that the peak of Battlefield was 24-player maps designed for weak consoles. Some people love 1, but others hate it as much as V. Still others seem to not be aware that any of the games before Bad Company 2 even existed.
they not learning from there mistakes. All we bf fans want is something like BF bad company 2. Hopefully this new bf will be amazing
Wow. That sounds truly awful. Too bad billions are made yearly on microtransactions. They don't care about public image as long as the money rolls in.
I think people are misunderstanding the whole "Ecosystem. Its basically going forward all ganes will be connected in a universe.Allowing us to take our content from games to the next one like portal.
I did hope for a sequel to BF1 with more maps, modes, factions and stories but keep the core of gameplay similar to BF1 just make it more detailed and effects. BFV doesn't count as the sequel.
Just remake battlefield 3. Keep the gameplay mechanics the same and give it a new coat of paint… with no microtransactions
The top publishers are absolute garbage these days and don't deserve to thrive.
They scammed people with Anthem, promising updates, then just gave up on it. Releasing a broken Battlefield 2042, promising updates then just gave up on it as well.
EA will never be a decent publisher again because of these terrible business practices. Micro-trash-actions have well and truly ruined this industry.
I think they insist to destroy for what ever left from the already destroyed of the game that used to known as Battlefield, they won't be happy before they make sure they've wiped all Battlefield DNA and anything reminds their fans of it. this is the results when you hand a big games to someone has power and never know how to treat it!
if it was me I will bring back all BF3 developers and give them all the budget they need in order to revive their dead game! and I will not interrupt their work. I will just give them all the support and advices they need from a Battlefield series fan/gamer view.
Battlefield has struggled immensely in recent years, and the franchise could use an extended break to rethink strategies to reverse its ill fortunes.
Don't keep head down.
Announce Bad Company 3, spent proper development time on it and don't end up like 2042.
These aticles are everywhere! I still find them interesting though
Just flamebait. No need to give it hits. Move along.
And you know what's better than both with no slowdowns, seamless gameplay, over 300 frames per second and both accessible to both casual and hardcore?

I played Far Cry 3 on my PC this weekend. Suddenly the triggers on my 360 controller stopped working. Only the triggers.
YEAH, PC GAMING!!!
*yawn*
