MasonicGamer.com - We’ve all obsessed over a game at some point or another. If you haven’t, you may want to find another hobby. Obsession is what drives us to push on, no matter how many times we’ve failed. It gets us through our long days, as we have something to look forward to in the evenings. It drives people to invent, to create, and to improve the technology we use. Yes, obsession is a healthy part of gaming.
I feel that there are two main types of obsession for gamers: short-term and long-term. Short-term obsession occurs when a game is so good that you just can’t stop playing. When not playing, thoughts of it keep coming into your head: Strategy planning, speculation on future plot points, and stuff like that. Long-term obsession often accompanies massive games, such as MMOs. It’s possible to forget about your own life for years when one of these obsessions takes over.
It’s likely that people become obsessed with different games for very different reasons. I’m interested to hear which games people have obsessed over and why, but first I’ll give a few examples from my own life.

Yes this is not about video games directly but indirectly this will impact the pc gaming/workstation space hard.
This company is massive one of two in the water cool space so if it goes poof then thousands out there have no spare parts or half built computers.
SO yeah i know not about a video game but think of it as amd leaving the pc space but this is ekwb that could be leaving water cooling in the pc space

As someone that has built a watercooling rig. EK is big, but there's so many numerous watercooling part companies out there. EK's stuff isn't exactly amazing quality for the price compared to others either, it's just ok. Much like Corsair. The impact would be negligible long term. For perspective the majority of my parts are XSPC, at most I use EK for my gpu waterblocks and fittings. Both easily replaceable.

It use to be final fantasy but we all know how that is now
Tekken Tag Tournament - First arcade game I spent $100+ and still going to this day when I find a working machine. Even on MAME I still put at least 2+ hours in.
Tetris - Must hit 999999 score...
Sonic 3 and Knuckles - Can't put down unless the game locks up from too much play time.
Final Fight - Can't put down unless the controller dies, even to this day.
Mario 3 - Can play for hours, beat it, and go back for a second play through just for the fun of it.
Fallout 3/NV - Can play 12+ hours before realizing I need to eat.
Mass Effect - First game since MGS that reminded me a good story is more important than graphics.
Goldeneye64 - In high school one of the games that kept me in the Nintendo light.
Mario Kart 64 - First racing game that made me slow down playing Gran Turismo. To this day I'll still play it if someone has a copy.
Marvel vs Capcom - Still play to this day on PS3; reminds me of the days when Capcom was still a good company and came out with games that became instant classics.
Final Fantasy 11 - Had to actually quit in 2008 due to finding a new job, and I had to decide between real life and a game that had people I'll never meet in person. First game I discovered "gamer fatigue" however didn't last long once I discovered MGS 4 and Fallout 3.
GTA San Andreas - Reminded myself of how the early 90's was way better than today.
and before I knew it, I had nearly every Megaman game, about 40 unopened action figures from the Jazwares line, and a 3' x 48" poster of Megaman & Bass on my wall. I'd say its more of a hobby since it has no negative impact on my social/family life, but I could understand if anyone sees differently.
Xenogears, Chrono Cross, Final Fantasy Tactics, Vagrant Story, Final Fantasy XII, Ico, Shadow Of The Colossus, Shenmue I & II, Flower, Journey, Ryuu Ga Gotoku series, Dragon Quest series, original Deus Ex, System Shock II, Shin Megami Tensei series, Super Mario 64, Metal Gear Solid series and despite all the fandom, Final Fantasy VII.
Those are the games that changed my life or added spice to it.
Now I just need to find a cute Japanese girl who likes this stuff and I'm set for life! :)
