Kotaku: "As someone who grew up with the adventures of Cecil and Terra, I find it depressing to even write, but here we are. It's 2013, and Final Fantasy is on its last legs. The 25-year-old RPG series is a shell of its former self. When we see a new Final Fantasy game, our first reaction is no longer 'awesome!'—it is 'sh*t, how are they going to ruin my childhood next?' I've written before about some of the problems facing Final Fantasy, and even drawn up wish lists of things I'd like to see Square Enix try to do, but All The Bravest is yet another piece of disturbing evidence that this company no longer cares about its fans."
Alex S. from Link-Cable writes: "The Final Fantasy series is one of gaming’s most revered franchises with many of its games finding themselves near the top of ‘best games of all time’ lists and simply uttering the words ‘Final Fantasy’ usually evokes images of epic quests and world class polish. But not all of the games to bear the name have been worthy of praise. Some, in fact are terrible, unplayable, ugly and obnoxious games that make you wonder how Square Enix ever approved them. So for this week’s Top 10 we’re scraping the bottom of the barrel and counting down the Top 10 Worst Final Fantasy Games."
Addition of FFXIII Lightning Returns and Crystal Bearers make your list redundant.
Though I appreciate the lack of FFX-2.
And I agree with the rest.
Since when is After Years or Lightning Returns bad?
This article is garbage, the absolute worst FF, Final Fantasy XIII is nowhere to be seen.
Also, why include a game that doesn't even exist anymore? FFXIV 1.0 is long gone...
Game Informer:
Big franchises often take advantage of their fame and appeal with a variety of spin-offs. The RPG juggernaut Final Fantasy is no different and throughout the years it has experimented with many different flavors. Some worked out much better than we ever expected; others were complete disasters. One thing is certain: Final Fantasy spin-offs aren’t going away.
Square Enix just launched Final Fantasy Explorers this week in North America and World of Final Fantasy is currently in development. But we didn’t want a list that just discussed ‘respectable’ games like Crisis Core or Revenant Wings or select average titles like Final Fantasy: Chocobo’s Dungeon and Final Fantasy Dimensions. What good does that do? We wanted to zoom in on the best creations, while also looking at the games that went horribly wrong.
On the heels of Square Enix's announcement of Final Fantasy: World Wide Words, Stephen from Leviathyn reminisces on the best and worst Final Fantasy spinoffs.
Oh Tidus... How I wish any Final Fantasy game past yours was even half as good as FFX...
For a long time Final Fantasy was the most beloved series in gaming. What Square-Enix has done to the series is shameful. I'm afraid to say it's probably too late to revive it now. Thank god we have Level 5 & NI NO KUNI!!!!!!
Going back to characters based around a class, are in a world where not everyone has special powers, would be a change back towards the right direction.
I truly miss the Kefka days or even FF 9 with Vivi. With every iteration FF becomes more and more like a japanese version of mass effect.
SMT series and Persona is the new king of JRPG's now
