I know we said this about 2011 but will 2013 be the best year in gaming?

SchollA from Console ControllUs pronounced control-us writes:
After the year we had in 2011 I think gamers were expecting to have an even bigger year in 2012…well 2012 arrived and seemingly did not deliver. I think some of that had to do with games that were expected to release being pushed into 2013 and the games that were actually published not living up to standard. Now it seems 2013 will be an overcrowded bliss which may propel 2013 to be the biggest, best year ever, so if this is indeed the final year for current-gen consoles what a way to go.

Let’s go back to 2011 for a second shall we?

There's certainly a good case to be made for this. It's not only a year of many exclusives, but it 'appears' to be a year when the PS3 gets pushed beyond that mythical and often reported power limit. When you see The Last Of Us and you recall thinking that Uncharted 2 was the limit and then Uncharted 3 MUST be the limit ... you begin to realise that the limit seems limitless.

The almost photo-realism of Beyond: Two Souls, the Ridiculous lighting, environment and character builds of GOW: Ascension, the remarkable graphics of Puppeteer, the blissful concept behind Rain and the vibrant cell shading of both Ni-no-kuni and Sly Cooper are just some of the reasons this case can be made.

By "limits", are you talking in terms of graphics/production values or innovation/creativity? Personally, the latter is more important to me.

I agree logic.

"but will 2013 be the best year in gaming?"

....and the fact that some of these great games are coming out for 6 year old systems further proves that games don't need to have some of the absolute best graphics to be some of the best gaming experiences.

Lower production costs also lead to more creative games. Which is why I'm okay with bringing on a new gen provided we can find a way to keep production costs low.

Oh, without doubt the latter, but both are welcome. I honestly think that all the titles I've mention bring something fresh to the table, with the exception of Ni No Kuni, which just delivers a true next gen JRPG, and Sly Cooper, which is just going to be great fun.

I would saayyy.....no

Maybe if The Last Guardian came out that WOULD make it best year for gaming

also The Last of Us needs to be amazing, and Tomb raider reboot successful

2013 can be the best year in a couple years, with big titles like GTA V, Last Of Us, Watch Dogs, and MGS Ground Zeroes(possibly) coming out, also not everything is even announced yet.

Also with the rumor that the next gen consoles being reveled possibly this year excites me.

We said this about 2011, because there were so many great sequels/conclusions.
2012 was pretty good as well.

For me at least, 2013 will be better, whether or not the new consoles are released. I am a single player guy, so TLOU, Beyond 2S and ni No Kuni will see me through. Plus Metro Last Light, Bioshock infinite and Alien Colonial Marines.

I also hope that Gears Judgement can have a half-decent story this time around. Being a prequel, it has more free room, as it is not tied into the original trilogy as much, which had sub-standard stories to say the least. Also expecting big things from another prequel in GOW Ascension.

I forgot some others, plus there are un-announced ones as well. I think Bungie's Destiny will come out as well, at leastfor Xbox (meh...stupid timed exclusives).

Interesting article, it doesn’t surprise me because some people are better all a-rounders than others. Regardless of fame or how good they are in their specialty.

This is why I feel like the live action stuff in Alan Wake 2 especially is pretty bad. It also looks really cheap and amateurish.
