7/10?

That's generous... Well it wasn't terrible I guess, though the Piome games are far superior and they never butcherd the character of one of the most iconic female characters EVER.

Chidori4117d ago

You're being too harsh. While I can understand long time fans being disappointed in the change to Samus's character, it was still definitely a good game which I really enjoyed. Iv'e never been the biggest Metroid fan (only completed Prime 3 prior to Other M - eventually got the Prime Trilogy), but I think it was nice seeing a side of Samus that we never expected. She is human after all.

I think there's potential to execute everything a little better in a sequel and I would love to see one. Samus has always felt like an emotionless Robot, so I think showing her human side and emotions is a good step forward for the franchise. It just needs to be done in a better way.

I am being too harsh, sorry about that it's a side effect of spending too much time on N4G, lol.

I don't dislike Metroid Other M, heck I went back through to 100% it, I just felt they didn't do Samus justice, well, maybe that's not quite right... OK, the image of Samaus that a lot of fans have who've played the Nes and Snes originals was not portrayed in Metroid Other M, and I just found that disappointing is all.

RaptorGTA4117d ago

I personally loved the game. I dont understand why people see showing Samus is human and has a sense of fear to be a negative thing.

Meh...

zerocrossing4117d ago (Edited 4117d ago )

Because it ruined Samus character for that game, maybe it would have been OK for an origin story but having Samus breakdown at the site of ridley, an enemy she'd defeated I think 3 or 4 times prior was kind of stupid, and not being able to use certain weapons and abilities until Adam allowed it was even more so.

The voice actor didn't really help much either, her words sounded so void of emotion, like she was just reading lines without any feeling or regard for their context.

@fossilfern

I don't hate Other M by any means, I just thought that certain choices made about Samus's personality clashed with a lot of peoples preconceptions.

fossilfern4117d ago

I agree with some of the statements but at the same time we never actually knew what Samus was like. I saw a while ago that people were blaming team ninja for the characterisation but it was actually Sakimotos fault.

RaptorGTA4116d ago

"and not being able to use certain weapons and abilities until Adam allowed it was even more so."

This is a constant complaint I see...personally...they had to give a reason why you couldnt use your power up at first..I felt it was a good reason. Better then her tripping and all her power ups falling down a vent (see Decline of Video Games). I just dont see it being that big of a deal.

At the same point tho, I dont follow her like i would other characters. So if this was a character that I knew more and loved more..I would be more critical to the story...but coming from a casual Metroid player..I had a blast with the game.

Bring back team battle clash.

Nioh games definitely up there at the top alongside Ninja Gaiden BLK.

LoveSpuds464d ago

There is a decent fan base for the Nioh games, but still think they are criminally overlooked and under appreciated.

I just bought the PS5 collection to replay them again with all their DLC, a sweet collection for my games shelf for sure.

Yea, those gardens haven't been plowed in over 10 years now though. Imagine if they cultivated it, let it grow again.

Starman69464d ago

Amazing what ya can do with a samurai sword lol 🤣

tehpees3465d ago

The honourable mention though.

TheSenorCheese465d ago

originally it wasn't going to be included because of their take on Samus' character. But the gameplay's actually not bad.

Vits464d ago

Honestly, I don't know if we can even blame them for that take. Nintendo's Sakamoto was credited as the writer and from what we learned later with the Retro Studios interviews for the Prime series, Nintendo apparently never saw Samus as this stoic badass that most of the west imagined her as. Going as far as describing her as "motherly".

Ninja Gaiden was dope but I don't really care for alot of their games.

Well it almost killed Metroid so…

PhillyDillyDee710d ago

Yeah we all loved how you took a stoic badass and turned her into a whiny shrew. All those writers should be sacked.

Terry_B710d ago

Sometimes, I doubt that Reggie was that great for Nintendo after all.

2D Metroid Retrospective: Bring on the Remakes

VGChartz's Paul Broussard: "The early-mid 2000s saw something of a golden age for Metroid games. After an eight year hiatus, Metroid burst back onto the scene in dramatic fashion. Largely buoyed by the critical and financial success of Metroid Prime (at least, relative to other Metroid releases), Metroid saw a whopping six new titles between 2002 and 2007, as well as one rather bizarre pinball spin-off that wound up being much better than it had any right to be. Metroid had never been this popular before."

Never though the day would come where I say this but I’d be fine with having every 2D Metroid remade the way Dread plays.

INMATEofARKHAM929d ago

I just want them all in the Switch.
