Reviewers opinions do not take the previous games in to much consideration. It is reviewed for what it is intended to be.

The Devil May Cry die hard's will only focus on what is different from the original series.

If you want something to be based off its own merit then it's better to make it a new IP, don't link it to a previously successful franchise to gain attention and tell us that we're wrong for expecting it to be similar to the originals and then give us the middle finger when we're not impressed.

I guess the new Batman movies should never have been made then since they are a reboot. For them movies to be based off their own merit they shouldn't have been Batman movies.

The new batman movies are not judged on their own merit. Every time we watch them we remember the batman movies of the past and how these movies improved on those. If NT would have improved on Dante as a character and not given us a pretentious teenage rebel, then I'm sure the fans would love him. If they would have improved on the gameplay not just tacked on heavenly sword controls then I'm sure the fans would love it also.

People just don't see this game as an improvement over the old ones and they have legitimate gripes.

I say thats pretty much almost false. about 80% of the haters do not say there opinion. They pretty much say what others opinions are (which is false) and state them as fact. There some that actually say there opinions on why but when they start adding excusing that have no relation to the game then it starts getting retarded. Like NT insulting fans. That has nothing to do if the game is going to suck or not. Or Capcom must be buying out these reviews becasue there is no way anyone likes this game.

Its like the haters have it dead set in there mind that everyone hates the game. The ones that like the game think they do but they really don't.

DMC4 is pretty much a carbon copy of DMC3, the only problems DMC4 had was the insane amount of back tracking fighting Bosses over. And Thats the reason why The game was rebooted because HARDCORE FANS looked at DMC4 and thought meh! More of the same. and now that the franchise has been rebooted, suddenly you want it to go back to what it use to be!

Are articles like this really necessary? All they do is piss people off and try to cause more controversy (which is something DmC doesn't really need at this point). I mean, the Call of Duty games get great reviews and amazing sales, but you don't see so-called professional game sites writing a bunch of "Haha! A. It's still a game that only met critical praise , without any effect on its sales . Same will goes for DmC imo , it will flops or succeed based on the strength of the franchise mostly .

B. I'm sure some would be happy ... again i just wouldnt care . I've been vocal enough about how little i care about most of those sites' opinion about games , way before the whole dmc thing .

Dont expect me to conjure some "capcom bought them" theory either , i just chalk it up to their usual flaws and short comings .

Plenty of games have had critical praise and poor sales. If DmC does go down this route does it really matter? It comes down to the point that NT pulled through and gave us a great game to play.

Okami flopped in the sales department. At least the game was great and that is what matters and that is what the fans will remember.

This is the truly pathetic aspect of the affair . The press does it's job as usual , badly or not , why feel the need to gloat about their opinions ?

Who expected bad scores after months of them praising the game ? And after praising the previous games from Ninja theory .

All i can say is , i'm not surprised , still dont care about their input , and that what matters ultimately is weither or not the game fails or succeed in sales , to decide once and for all the fate of the franchise .

If you pass judgement on a game based on how much it sells....well then I don't know what to say to that.

But if you want the game to fail in the sales department because you don't like the direction that NT took, that is a respectable opinion, minus the fact you want a great game to fail.

The game is good, in fact, I'm going to be brave here and say it's actually faithful to what DMC is. You see there is a consensus, not just among the publications you hate but across most publications, that is why the game holds an aggregate score of 85 on metacritic right now.

I honestly hope NT pursues this direction, as I've said before, DMC has always been about reconciling style with combat not difficulty and combat. Much too often people develop a false sense of proficiency just because they've played the "originals".

Well I guess it pretty much sucks for someone like me since I never approved of big developers outsourcing their franchises to other developers (hell I hate using outsourced code at work). It was not just appearances that made me dislike what DmC was to become it goes much further for the clashes of ideals between east and west where I was attracted to the DMC franchise for its eastern appeal.

Though I stand by my choice and will have nothing to do with this game though that was more of a deciding factor on Tameem's software development methodology which I think is absurd from a professional standpoint. If you want my full view on this feel free to PM me.

Got myself in a catch-22 if the re imaging succeeds the franchise will continue to go into a direction that me and other people don't approve of. If it fails in sales then the series is more then likely going to be gone.

People seem to not understand that it is people that make these games, if you take the people out of what made the games great in the first place your taking the original soul away from it. Look at the Silent Hill franchise after Team Silent left Konami no Silent Hill title has overcome the pinnacle of the series which was Silent Hill 2.

After reading this article and a few of the more trustable reviews (Polygon, Eurogamer), I can see why fans are pissed, yet reviewers are "Well, some things are good." The reboot brought about really stupid characters trying to be gritty, a la Arkham City's PG-13-strapped inmates who just say the B word all of the time.

The boss you fight in the demo is exactly what Eurogamer's talking about - they basically put how to kill the guy in neon lights. The dialogue's just as awful as Polygon says it is - "F You" over and over isn't funny when it's done like it's a serious retort. The bit about the end boss is really, really disappointing. That's like the bread and butter of a good action game - look at Bayonetta! You ride a motorcycle up a rocketship to fight God in that game, and it's amazing. The next big action game should one-up that, not flop!

Neither of them mentioned the framerate, which is a huge dealbreaker for me, but I understand that not every consumer cares about that.

Basically, if you want more Devil May Cry, you'll want to take a blowtorch to this game. If you're interested in Devil May Cry but never played it, this is no good intro, the characters are horrible. But it's still... technically... alright. I guess. It'll be a steal at five bucks in a bargain bin. I'll wait three months for it to be free on Playstation Plus :P

As it currently stands, the game is rated below DMC1, DMC3:SE, DMC3 and DMC4 on Metacritic on the PS3 and below DMC1, DMC3:SE on the Xbox 360. If anything it's exactly what most critics of this game expected.

I watch Ryan Clements' review on IGN and I never felt so much cringe in a game review since Greg Miller's Uncharted 2 nerdgasm.

It's like everyone's forgotten about Devil May Cry 3 and have completely downgraded their standards. Ryan Clements knew he couldn't avoid talking about the low difficulty and so tried to whitewash it by claiming it was 'designed to be fair; not easy.'

And the swearing in the video review really changed my opinion of Ryan Clements too.

Gratuitous nudity in the intro cutscene did not impress. What am I 12 years old?? Props on turning Dante into a naked gay emo?? The game also looked mindnumbingly linear. Enemy count looked very low and boring. You will probably have to try your hardest to actually die or fail in this game. It'll be a button mashing pat on the back for entitled 12 year olds. Kinda hard to have the game be stylish with such a wussy main character. Fag game.

My first reaction was to call the article stupid, but I realized that would be reacting to what a lot of media has been doing with the same thing. I don't want to stoop to that level. I find it really insulting that some many journalists would go for what is pretty much name calling directed at the people who dislike the game. Is belittling and making fun of a group's opinion what passes for journalism these days? I can also see a tendency of ignoring the people who have given some good arguments to support their points, unlike a lot of journalists in their reviews. You were making fun of the million things wrong comment? I guess you need to look "figuratively speaking" up. There are a lot of valid arguments made about what's wrong with this game and they are pretty easy to find. I read a lot of reviews, written by both fans and journalists. I think the fans have made a much stronger case in their dislike of the game than the journalists in their praise. So I won't be buying this game. And let the sales be the final judge.
