Review: Playstation All Stars Battle Royale (New Gamer Nation)

Let’s get the most obvious comparison out of the way first. Yes, this game is very similar to the Super Smash Bros series. And while that’s true, Playstation All-stars Battle Royale is different enough that it doesn’t feel like a rip-off. Although differences are definitely good, they don’t automatically make the game itself good, and this is the case with Battle Royale, as it falls a little bit short of what could have been amazing.

why can't characters sprint?

ForgottenProphecy4120d ago

pushing the analog stick all the way in one direction is sprinting. Not pushing it as much in that direction is walking. Why can't people grasp that concept?

jukins4120d ago

Who needs a sprint when almost every character has a move or two that enables fast movement across a level

MizTv4120d ago

Why would they need to?
It fast anyway

Sony's Smash Bro's clone didn't work. For one, it is designed in the west, but the Japanese make fighting games better. And two the characters are not a big selling point.

Sony makes great games, they shouldn't have fallen for this quick cash-in. How about they finish the last Guardian?

Just out of curiosity, have you played it? Or are you basing it off of the wide ranging reviews of others? Not condemning, just curious.

I don't know why these characters would be less of a selling point as fighters than, say, the Smash Bros cast. They have a good stable of iconic characters, that of course have a few shortcomings in terms of pleasing everyone, but it is solid. In my experience with the game, and the Vita version at that, I can tell you this was no quick cash-in. It is a quality made game. It offers a different fighting experience than more of the hardcore and more abundant Tekken and Street Fighters. I think it is a good game, 8/10 material. Not sure where the general disdain for the game comes from, but to each his own I suppose.

That aside, I agree. They need to give us the heads up as to what is going on with games like TLG. Silence only infuriates. I almost have to imagine at this point that they decided to make it a PS4 title, because with a title that they gave so much coverage to and so much press presence at different events, the thing can't be scrapped. But if it were coming out, they would have to be dropping us breadcrumbs about it to some degree. This generation is coming to it's end. Perhaps a PS3/PS4 title. Kind of curious how many titles will end up going that route in the beginning, supporting new hardware while not being able to ignore the juicy install base of the previous generation.

TLDR: PSASBR is a good game, don't get the general bashing. Also yea, The Last Guardian...give us some info already.

PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale Launched 10 Years Too Early

Though PlayStation All Stars Battle Royale is a bit of a cult classic, it could have been a big hit if it launched in 2022 instead of 2012.

It wouldn't have mattered, Sony would've rushed it out and left it to die. More so now than before with their focus now being on SP narrative driven AAA games.

Oh, but somehow Smash Bros. 64 made it work?

It just couldn’t compete with Smash Bros. and it wasn’t a free-to-play game like Multiversus.

PapaBop520d ago

I think it released at the right time. It's just after the success of Smash and Multiversus, it's finally time for a sequel.

spoonard520d ago

I'd be all in on a remake or remaster of the original. I enjoyed it because I didn't sit there and compare every aspect to SSB. I just enjoyed it as it was.

Magatsuhi520d ago

Sony should make part 2 and dump a good amount of money on it. Scrap super only kills and it's bound to succeed.

Father__Merrin520d ago

Yes the power kills spoilt it completely WTH was they thinking you should have hp bar that's it

God of War: Ragnarok Weirdly Makes PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale Canon

God of War: Ragnarok has plenty of fun references to PlayStation history, but now fans have discovered a conversation that calls back to PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale — the crossover fighting game released for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita.

I wouldn't say canon. More like an easter egg.

Deathdeliverer526d ago

That’s interesting. It actually does make it canon lol. He mentioned it in a mainline game. I’d say that’s pretty cool.
