New Super Mario Bros. U was a good title to launch with the Wii U, it seems.

Both the basic and deluxe version needs NSMBU bundled with it.

G20WLY4121d ago

Probably, but the numbers are all over the place. Does this include downloads for games, where that is an option, for example?

Also, did you or anyone else notice that week ending 29 Dec Vita sales were reported at 4.1m, but one week (and 89k sales) later it's gone DOWN to 4.0m? WTF? That’s a 5% discrepancy!

You can still find the article - 1d3h ago and 200 degrees. This is why people get confused and don’t trust this site and their appalling number crunching.

If ever they make an amendment over the previous week, they should state rationale for the movement, y'know, like you do when you present 'facts'!

Otherwise your credibility goes out the window. For all we know the 3DS could have passed 30m sales already lol

Tewi-Inaba4120d ago (Edited 4120d ago )

I think that's just an old picture

G20WLY4120d ago (Edited 4120d ago )

^ Okay...so another inaccuracy from this site, which is the very point I'm making! ;)

TheGamerDood4121d ago

so does anyone ever compare vgchart info with the legit numbers and see if they're accurate?

BitbyDeath4121d ago (Edited 4121d ago )

They are known for under tracking sales. PS3 was at $68 million for weeks even after Sony formally announced they'd sold $70 million, so it's close but not entirely accurate.

Ilovetheps54121d ago

I'm pretty sure that when Sony announced they'd sold 70 million units, they meant to retailers not consumers. Now I know that vgchartz isn't a reliable source, but they track retail sales not wholesale.

GuyManDude4121d ago

@Iluvtheps3:

Your disagrees...are hurting my head.

He/she is correct: Sony reports units sold to stores and VGChartz reports consoles (allegedly) sold to consumers.

I own a PS3. Have over 50 games for it (and another 50+ on the hard drive). Iluvtheps3 didn't attack Sony or lie. Read what he/she said and stop acting like children.

Anon19744121d ago

Actually, we have no idea what it is that VGChartz tracks because they never reveal their methodology. I think it's supposed to be retail sales, but who knows with them. That doesn't exactly make sense though as for years they had the 360 figures higher than Microsoft said they had sold to retail. How do you sell more consoles at retail than are actually in stores? Figure that one out.

At any rate, they won't reveal how they get their sample's and what's just pure speculation. The guy in an interview once admitted for software figures on one particular game they had no sales samples at all for Europe and just guesstimated the whole thing. Don't know if they still do that. It's a fan run site so you can't expect all that much. Even in their own terms of use they say they don't stand by their figures so don't expect accuracy. Awhile back, Microsoft openly mocked their numbers for being completely fabricated.

I know I've said it before but there's just so much confusion regarding this site and it's validity as evidenced by the fact that you're asking the question. It bears repeating from time to time for those who legitimately don't know the site's history. No one in the industry uses them for anything, so right there that should tell you something.

Ilovetheps54121d ago

darkride, here is a link to their methodology: http://www.vgchartz.com/met...

Like I said, I don't believe they are a reputable source. I know that and I agree with you. But I was just stating why the numbers weren't changed when Sony announced their 70 million units number. They weren't talking about the same figures.

BitbyDeath4121d ago (Edited 4121d ago )

Thanks iluvtheps3, always good to see links.

"Europe - UK + Germany + France extrapolated to represent the European Totals
Global - USA + Europe + Japan extrapolated to represent the Global Totals"

That explains why 360 figures are more accurate and PS3 are generally said to be under tracked, many countries are left out of the count where PS3 sells better.

GribbleGrunger4121d ago (Edited 4121d ago )

Whilst their methodology is flawed (and I pointed that out way back) they do adjust their figures in line with NPD and Media Create/Famitsu. How they evaluate Europe I'm not sure, but they DO regularly adjust their figures when shipped numbers come in from the companies. This is why they are often completely wrong some months but at the end of the year they're usually there abouts.

Wow, props to Sony, there are on a roll!

GuyManDude4121d ago

Indeed. 300,000 for a week in January is pretty impressive.

If Sony drops the PS3 to $200 this year (I'm pretty sure they will) they might flirt with 13 million units sold in 2013. That's the goal: 13 for '13. That'll get em' to over 85 million total.

gustave1544121d ago

yep at 14 million at 2014, and 15 million at 2015 =)

TheRealHeisenberg4121d ago

I am looking to get a 3rd PS3.

adorie4121d ago

I might be adding to that. I have around 70 PS3 games and my PS3 just kicked the bucket after 6 years. Died on Christmas eve while playing Uncharted 2.

Quorxo4121d ago

Ha! I love how PS3 leads in multi-console releases. Kudos.

GuyManDude4121d ago

I posted this on the US weekly thread, but it bears repeating...

I'm going to rant for a second:

Before I start I should first mention that I own a PS3 and only a PS3...

What the f&*# is going on with PS3 game sales? I'm looking at the 2012 global software chart and it's embarrassing. The top three PS3 games aren't surprising: Black Ops 2, FIFA, and ACIII. But what's at #4? Resident Evil 6. Seriously. RE6 sold 2.2 million copies on PS3.

But wait, it gets worse. 1 million people bought RE Operation Raccoon City. Wtf people. More people bought that POS than Dishonored. Also, Borderlands 2 only sold 1.2 million copies. The sales of Borderlands 2 and Dishonored combined on PS3 are less than RE6 sales.

You know what's not on the list? 2012 1st party games. Here are some numbers (and they're bad):

Starhawk: 200,000
Twisted Metal: 600,000
LBP Karting: 400,000
PlayStation All-Stars: 380,000

Those 4 combined are less than RE6's sales.

Starhawk selling that low is pathetic. You can kiss Lightbox goodbye because of that. They fired 75% of their workforce and are making iPhone games now.

iPhone games.

For the record I bought Twisted Metal, Starhawk, Borderlands 2, and Dishonored (among others this year) and haven't bought a Resident Evil game in 7 years.

Get your crap together PS3 owners.

Jobesy4121d ago

"Get your crap together PS3 owners."

Wow, you're some fanboy aren't you? Why should we buy those crap games? Just to put more money in Sony's bank account and please you fanboys for the next VGChartz #s? Wake up, if Sony puts a crap game out (which is what those title you listed are) then they will sell like crap.

Wait till GOW and TLOU release, those are quality titles. Those are games with big followings. Those are the sort of games PS3 owners expect. And most important, those are games THAT PEOPLE WANT TO PLAY! Nobody but a few fanboys wanted PASBR. TM was so last decade. Starhawk, did we need another shooter? LBK Karting, is that the PS3's demographic? And MNR was infinately better anyway.

Don't judge all PS3 owners by the few fanatics on N4G. And please don't tell PS3 owners to get their crap together, tell Sony to get it's crap together.

GrandTheftZamboni4121d ago

Don't forget PSN purchases. I don't think VGChartz can track those.

WeAreLegion4121d ago

Those are ALL amazing titles.

Maybe you should play them.

TheRealHeisenberg4121d ago (Edited 4121d ago )

Worldwide Software:
1: (PS3) Call of Duty: Black Ops II - 191,625

That is the PS3's demographic right there. PS3 owners like shooters big time.

I do agree with you about GOW and TLOU. Can't wait!

http://www.youtube.com/watc...

And lets not forget that Playstation games have legs...that used to be a signature phrase here on N4G.

SoapShoes4121d ago

Man you are stupid, to be perfectly honest. Crappy games? They aren't all crappy games, you must be new to gaming if you think only good games sell and bad ones don't. Gems are released all the time that get unnoticed and have been since gaming started. Or are you somehow telling me Call of Duty is the best shooter out there?

Fyi Twisted Metal is awesome! Why do you think IGN gave it a 9/10? Huh? Last decade? It was two decades ago but going by your logic all Nintendo franchises and all Microsoft franchises are crap and shouldn't be selling.

CommonSenseGamer4121d ago

Buying exclusives JUST because they're exclusives is not something I'd recommend. Good games will sell, mediocre ones won't. Your list is full of games that simply didn't appeal to a mass audience or simply got overshadowed by the barrage of good games that came out last year.

Nathaniel_Drake4121d ago

PS3 should always be analyzed differently than other systems as they release so many exclusives more than any other system so you get cult followings which don't turn out high numbers but satisfy a good population and they keep bringing out these games. They don't sell because they are mediocre games that is not how you should look at it for the PS3

Ezz20134121d ago (Edited 4121d ago )

not because they are ps3 exclusives mean i must buy them
i did buy starhawk and journey
but that's it
this year i'm buying every exclusive ps3 have ..you know why ???!! because those games in 2013 are AAA games

CommonSenseGamer4121d ago

They have the potential to be AAA games however, I will buy based on demos and what I can find out about the games once they are released.

Sizzon4121d ago

What about Yakuza 5 huh?

that game alone has so far sold 580k in just Japan.

boybato4120d ago

I remember spending several hours on google map on Kabukicho,Japan...
Niway, any news on Y5's US release date?

boybato4120d ago

I doubt that those numbers accurately represents those games lifetime sales...

Considering the number of exclusives Sony releases it wouldn't be able to match Xbox's exclusives when it comes to sales.

Anyway, for you sir, I'll buy 10 copies of Starhawk tomorrow. ;p

Mugen Souls Retro Review – Sexy Demon Space Adventure

Gary Green said: We have a juxtaposition of 2D and 3D visuals, flashy turn-based combat, quirky anime characters with cheeky dialogue with plenty of partial nudity; Yes, this is a Compile Heart JRPG. Whilst the engine is borrowed from Hyperdimension Neptunia mk2, Mugen Souls is more of a Disgaea spin-off. It’s not a strategy RPG as such, it merely sits within Disgaea’s ever-expanding universe (Multiverse? Netherverse? Your guess is as good as mine). You won’t find cameos though, since Mugen Souls is a franchise which aims to stand on its own two feet.

Looking Back At 2008, An Unbelievably Incredible Year Of Video Game Releases

Huzaifa from eXputer: "2008 was home to the likes of Call of Duty: World at War, Dead Space, GTA 4, Far Cry 2, Left 4 Dead, and many other hits, which is outright remarkable."

CrimsonWing693h ago

I don’t think anything can compare to 2023

lucasnooker3h ago

1998 - the best year in gaming! Metal gear solid, crash bandicoot 3, medievil, half life, ocarina of time, thief, tenchu, resident evil 2, Spyro, tomb raider 3, oddworld abes exodus, banjo kazooie.

It was a different breed of a gaming era. You’ll never understand what it was like back then. The aura of gaming, it was different!

KyRo3h ago(Edited 3h ago)

I second this. Gaming was a lot more varied and fun than it is today. I'm 35 so getting on compared to some here but I got to see all the changes from NES up to now but I've never felt so disappointed in any generation than I have this current gen. I was expecting more from this generation rather than prettier versions of games that came before it. Game mechanics have become so refined that alot of games feel the same and has done for a while now.

Maybe it's time to have a break for a while. I love gaming but I don't feel I get much fun in the traditional sense out of it anymore.

CrimsonWing693h ago(Edited 3h ago)

Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil 2, Abe’s Exodus, and Ocarina of Time are the only things from that list that I liked.

Here’s the 2023 game releases that I personally liked… and big releases that I didn’t care for:

- Dead Space Remake
- Wo Long Dynatsy
- Resident Evil 4 Remake
- Diablo 4
- Fire Emblem Engage
- Hogwarts Legcay
- Street Fighter 6
- Hi-Fi Rush
- Like a Dragon: Ishin
- Octopath Traveler 2
- Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters
- Final Fanatsy XVI (actually ended up not liking this, but it was still a big deal release)
- Baldur’s Gate 3
- Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon
- Lies of P
- Mortal Kombat 1
- Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
- Starfield (Ended up hating this one, but big release)
- Super Mario Bros. Wonder
- Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (I’m an old-school Zelda fan, but didn’t really enjoy this game)
- Alan Wake 2

I mean, honestly I’ve never seen a year of major IP releases like that, ever.

Profchaos7m ago(Edited 4m ago)

Isn't it just a generational thing realistically.

I've been gaming since way back and I some of my favourite games go as far back as the late 80s for me each generation has a year or two of game changing releases one after another before an inevitable dry spell.

I kind of agree gaming had a different feel games hit different because we didn't have the internet nothing got spoiled and you really had to put in the effort to beat a puzzle which could set entire groups of people looking for a solution. But most importantly games were experimental and not as cookie cutter as today even basics like controls were not universal today r2 is shoot l2 is ads garunteed you can't deviate from that in a shooter back then it could of been square, R1 or R1 and circle nothing was standard.

But as time moves on a new generation picks up their controller they are going to be interested in different things that PS1 demo disc with the t Rex blew our primitive 16 bit brains back on launch but to kids today it's laughable.
The new gen of kids coming into to hobby seem to value different things to us there seems to be a huge focus on online play, streamers, gaming personalities, and social experiences, convience of digital downloads. To me I value none of that but that's ok like my parents not liking the band's I would listen to its just the natural cycle.

6 Fun Games Where You Actually Play As The Bad Guy

While the mainstream media always sees things turning in favor of the hero, here are 6 games that own being a bad guy.

Profchaos9h ago

Pretty much all of these games listed are based around a morality system you don't have to be bad and you don't have to be good.

It seems to have left out some real amazing games like red dead redemption 1/2,ass effect and true crime la/ny

Tacoboto8h ago

Armored Core VI?

Ok, I'm really missing something here. Just beat chapter 3 earlier this evening, unlocked A-rank Arena fights. I'm not seeing or sensing any branching paths or morality system and I've done every side mission and arena fight available to me up to that fight.

Is something big coming soon to branch the story?

banger888h ago

No mention of Grand Theft Auto? Saints Row (original trilogy), Manhunt? Also The Suffering (depending on the ending you get).
