Chris casts his mind back over the long life of the PlayStation 2 and picks five games he thinks deserved more than they got.
Many overlooked RPGs lie dormant in the catalogues of gaming, but players can pick up their swords and shields with these amazing JRPG hidden gems!
.hack (Dot Hack) is a gaming series that started when technology was still evolving and growing. These games showed us some of the horrors but also the best parts of online gaming. But these games are decades old, and perhaps it's time for a remake, a remaster, or even a game in the series.
the OG games, yes they do.
but.. they are very niche to begin with.
bk then, i only knew one person who played the games, beside me.
The Xenosaga trilogy also needs a remake or at least a remaster. I never got into .hack when they came out on the PS2 I would try them out. A remake or a remaster would be great I am not paying an arm and a leg for the original games.
The list is as long as it would take you to grind through Dragon Quest VIII. Here are the best JRPGs on the PlayStation 2.
Good list, kudos for adding Shadow Hearts, Covenant is probably the best Jrpg most people have not played and what an improvement over the first one (plus ties with Koudelka which is an awesome game as well).
Take a look at the libraries of your favorite consoles. I guarantee you, other than a handful of fighting games better suited on the Dreamcast, PS2 still has the best, biggest, and most varied library. Literally something for everyone. JRPGs on PS1 and PS2 really were special.
Edit: the article basically just lists every single JRPG on PS2 lol
3 .hack games? Really? Not enough Shadow Hearts.
Get rid of 2 .hack games and replace them with Rogue Galaxy and Wild Arms 3. Nevermind they are combined at 3.
Extermination and spy fiction were two very underrated games IMO.
You know what hidden gem I absolutely loved?
Urban Reign.
It was basically a Tekken/Soul Calibur beat 'em up done right. The animations, the gameplay, the easy-to-learn; hard-to-master system. Everything about that game made it one of my favorite multiplayer games for the PS2.
Such a shame that no one played it...
Good list. Dark Cloud was good but i think Dark Cloud 2 was a better deeper gaming experience.
Star Ocean 3's battle system & easy to use synth system made that game stand out. Story was kinda cliche though.
I personally would have added Odin Sphere, Ar Tonelico, Valkyrie Profile Silmeria, Sakura Wars Farewell My Love to that list.
