Tomb Raider Multiplayer Gameplay

Were you worried that the multiplayer portion of Lara’s newest adventure might feel tacked on, or out of place? Well do not worry my dear readers, because from what we’ve seen so far, it looks quite engaging!

majiebeast4115d ago (Edited 4115d ago )

Even the multiplayer looks like uncharted.

@Maiden

Yeah they should it means that uncharted is the standard for the genre and its multiplayer.

MaideninBlack4115d ago

Wow! It really does. ND should be flattered.

omi25p4115d ago

I always thought that Uncharted was a copy of tomb raider.

lastofgen4115d ago

@omi25p
in many ways, it is.
but some people on n4g just don't want to see it that way.

Blastoise4115d ago

omi25p

It's not. Uncharted definitely borrowed a few thing's from tomb raider. But it was a third person shooter first, and an adventure game second. Where as Tomb raider was always more of an adventure game, exploring and getting med packs and stuff.

TheGamerDood4115d ago (Edited 4115d ago )

Wow nice Uncharted clone game you got there you freaking bunch of hacks!

omi25p4115d ago (Edited 4115d ago )

UNCHARTED:

A third person action adventure game. Based around a treasure hunter who raids ancient tombs for treasure and solve puzzles.

While on his adventures he gets caught up in all sorts of trouble with war criminals ect.

To defend himself he uses guns and melee combat to fight back his enemy and if need be he can escape using his ability to climb walls.

TOMB RAIDER:

A third person action adventure. Based around a treasure hunter who raids ancient tombs looking for treasure and solves puzzles.

While on her adventures she gets caught up in all sorts of trouble with war criminals ect.

To defend herself she uses guns and melee combat to fight back her enemy and if need be she can escape using her ability to climb walls.

Yet somehow these to games aren't similar in every way? Due to the fact they are so similar the one the came second is a copy (COPY DOESN'T MEAN BAD)

Now stop lying to yourselves, Uncharted is copy of Tomb raider. But it doesn't mean Uncharted is a bad game. Its better than Tomb raider (Except UC3 which is awful)

BitbyDeath4115d ago (Edited 4115d ago )

@omni25p, your description of Uncharted isn't accurate.

Not every Uncharted game is based around ancient tombs and war criminals for example, you're thinking of Indiana Jones.

Nimblest-Assassin4115d ago (Edited 4115d ago )

@Omi

Actually Uncharted is more inspired by Indiana Jones than Tomb Raider, infact the best way to describe uncharted is Indiana Jones directed by Joss Whedon.

But the gameplay in previous tomb raiders and uncharted were totally different. The only similarity the games had was the platforming, which so many other third person games like Prince of Persia used.

Uncharted was primarily a third person shooter, where as tomb raider was more about platforming... even though uncharted did platforming much better and tomb raider legends adopted uncharteds platforming, as you always needed to hold a button to stay on a platform.

And combat in tomb raider were all forced archaic confrontations where you don't have verticallity but must instead flip around and use the games auto aim to defeat enemies.

And if anything the story of tomb raider is bonkers as f***. I mean they added angels and demons, egyptian and norse gods. If anything Uncharted and Indiana Jones are more grounded, where as tomb raider is more devil may cry

So yeah, asides from how the platforming looked the games have very little in common.

Also how was uncharted 3 terrible? Story may not have been as tight as 2, but the game was still extremely solid

MaxXAttaxX4115d ago (Edited 4115d ago )

There are plenty of other games with a lot more in common than these two.
"But they're both treasure hunters so it must be a copy right?? Gtfo.

Has no one ever played Tomb Raider in the past?
It's puzzle and platforming heavy.

Uncharted's gameplay is different. It is very action and shooter oriented.
But NEW Tomb Raider, on the other hand, plays a lot more like Uncharted.

Megaton4114d ago

Tomb Raider didn't invent treasure hunting in jungles, and Uncharted looks nothing like the Tomb Raider games that came before it. The Tomb Raider reboot clearly borrows Uncharted's style.

DA_SHREDDER4114d ago

I'd rather say that Uncharted was more like Indiana Jones considering Tomb Raider was always just considered Indiana Jones with a hot chick as the lead role.

You know...it's funny you say that.

One of my uncles was playing uncharted a while back and he said that the mp and the game reminded him of tomb raider.

fabod864115d ago

Apart from the protagonist that is a treasures hunter too the Uncharted series has nothing to share with the "old" Tomb Raider games.
How can the multiplayer of it remind you(or your imaginary uncles) of the Tomb Rider series if this is the first game in the franchise to have one?(except for the coop mode of Guardian of Light).
You know...it's funny you say that(cit.) ;)

IAmLee4115d ago

That's not a bad thing though, I kind of like the look of this one alot more than previous outtings with lara...

acemonkey4114d ago

it looks fun...but yes looks very much like uncharted but with a bow and traps...but it looks like you can have fun and enjoy the MP but i wouldnt say theres alot of depth with the MP samething God of War is doing

Perjoss4114d ago

Funny thing is Uncharted looked like Tomb Raider way before Tomb Raider started looking like Uncharted

It pains me to say it, but when I watch this all I see is Uncharted - I can't help it. I'd love to believe what Eidos has done with Tomb Raider's multiplayer will be unique and original, but I have a horrible feeling that it won't be.

Ashunderfire864115d ago (Edited 4115d ago )

If you look at the game closely, it looks more deeper than Uncharted multiplayer, with traps and exploration don't forget that part too. Uncharted multiplayer rely on the cinematic environmental destruction effects for traps while shooting, this game have traps everywhere from the start. Heck you can even make your own traps. I read the latest Official Xbox Magazine, where they claim melee is a big part with characters agility too. It may not have better graphics than Uncharted, but it could still possible own it in single player and multiplayer. You don't always have to have the best graphics.

Thatguy-3104115d ago

Doubt it will top Among Thieves. Ill admit the whole setting traps aspect of it is pretty cool.

InTheLab4115d ago

You've clearly never played the MP of Uncharted. While trap building may not be apart of UC's mp, everything else you've seen in that video is Uncharted. And melee has a huge presence in the mp...

Ashunderfire864115d ago

Haters can hate, but last time I check Tomb Raider was series before Uncharted. Uncharted carbon copy many things Tomb Raider had before, from the exploration, puzzles, and traps. So what if Tomb Raider multiplayer looks like Uncharted multiplayer. It's time Uncharted had a competitor. Hate all you want haters, you still gonna buy the game no matter what. I'm looking to get this on PC or 360.

zebramocha4115d ago (Edited 4115d ago )

@ashun the only thing Tomb Raides & Uncharted have common are their themes,Lars movement are to far exaggerated unlike drizzy drake's interactions with the world, which is some what more natural.

csreynolds4115d ago (Edited 4115d ago )

I was going to take your views on Uncharted seriously until I realised you're an Xbox owner... #NotYourGameToCriticise

Besides, I wasn't being anti-Tomb Raider with my above comment. I was merely saying that I can't watch Tomb Raider without thinking that its multiplayer won't be that novel considering what ND's done before it.

Nimblest-Assassin4115d ago (Edited 4115d ago )

"Deeper than uncharted"

Not to be an ass or anything... but the traps are simply player controlled environmental hazards.

Aside from that they look pretty much the same

Conzul4115d ago

Who cares if it's just like Uncharted? At least it'll rock if that's true...

Ashunderfire864115d ago

Moveover Uncharted Nathan Drake, Lara Croft is back in action, and her multiplayer looks to give your multiplayer a true challenge. As they say: Anything you can do I can do better than you.

Riderz13374115d ago

You've played Tomb Raider?! OMG YOU ARE FROM THE FUTURE!!!

NastyLeftHook04115d ago

hey you know that uncharted 2 is the most awarded game in history? move over my ass.

torchic4115d ago

what does that have to do with anything?

Irishguy954114d ago

Torchic, it means GTA4 is the higher rated on Metacritic, which means its better than Uncharted 2

csreynolds4115d ago (Edited 4115d ago )

The more I read your comments, the more I see an Xbot that wants Tomb raider to succeed simply because he can't have Uncharted.

While PS3 owners are no doubt flattered that you're lusting after our exclusive, thinking Tomb Raider's multiplayer stands out from Uncharted's is delusional. Eidos have clearly been inspired by what Naughty Dog has done. I can't say if TR's online modes will be good or not because I've not tested them myself, but I can tell you that their resemblance to Uncharted's is uncanny.

No one's moving anywhere - at least not yet...

aviator1894115d ago (Edited 4115d ago )

I probably won't play the mp for this game, but it looks interesting enough to give it a try after I've finished with the campaign.

The Best Tomb Raider Games Ranked

We've gone on many adventures with Lara Croft. With another reboot in the making, Wealth of Geeks felt it was a good time to go down the nostalgia rabbit hole and remember the best of those tomb-raiding thrills.

I do agree that Tomb Raider Angel of Darkness was the worse one 😂 I remember playing some of it and I took it back. That game was just awful in every way. I bought it used at gamestop and glad they had that 7 day return policy for used games 😂

Pyrofire9551d ago

Would it be worth saying why?

ZeekQuattro51d ago

Simple. He's been hating on the Tomb Raider reboots for years. I can't imagine seeing them at the top of a best TR game list let alone being on the list in general sitting well with him because of it.

-Foxtrot51d ago

Zeek

“Hating”

No no, just pointing out how TR mutated into a generic action adventure game losing the appeal of what it once was when it was more about puzzles and platforming over going Rambo, slaughtering waves of enemies

But hey, continue being a dick and speaking about me like I’m not going to see the comment.

MeatyUrologist50d ago

Foxtrot, I'm curious if you have played the most recent games. Sure the 2013 reboot was hugely focused on combat, but each follow up became less and less about combat to the point where outside of a few large scale story missions I don't even remember combat being a part of shadow of the tomb raider. Shadow was so puzzle focused it actually was a bit much for me and I love the TR puzzles.

I still feel like Rise was the best of the series and I was a huge fan of the originals. To me it struck the perfect balance of exploration, platforming, puzzles, and combat. Not saying your opinion is wrong I'm just curious what you think they should have done different. Games do need to evolve somewhat to stay relevant. Would you prefer small linear jumping platform levels like the original?

RavenWolfx51d ago

I would agree Rise for 1 and the reboot as 2. Shadow is a bit high, though.

Sonic188151d ago (Edited 51d ago )

I think Shadow wasn't even develop by crystal dynamics. I thought it was the worse in the new trilogy

Pyrofire9551d ago

That's right. Shadow was developed by Eidos Montreal who who went and made Marvels Guardians of the Galaxy next. (Great game)
Meanwhile after Rise of the Tomb Raider, Crystal Dynamics made Marvels Avengers. (bad game)

MeatyUrologist51d ago

Agrees. First two are correct but Shadow should be around 5-6.

terstomp51d ago

For me, Legend should be alot higher (along with the other two ). Shadow, I enjoyed it, but has too much has fluff, as modern games tend to do. Playing the remastered series, and apart from the controls, is very good.

jznrpg51d ago

I really enjoyed the first 2 games, Legend and the first of the reboots and the rest I didn’t get into so I never finished.

robtion51d ago

Completely subjective list. I really liked Underworld, I preferred Lara's design. That said I loved the horror/uncharted feel of the reboot. I think all the TR games have strengths and weaknesses. None are objectively better in every way.
