N4G TV

Cat|4119d ago |Blog Post|31|

Hey, N4Gers! We've been playing around with the idea of creating an N4G web show - N4G TV. The idea is to have a short news show each Friday that covers the past week on N4G by featuring news and user content like great comments and blogs.

We're at the point in the process where we are in talks with a production company, and so we are giving a lot of thought to format and content. We'd love to have some input from you guys on what you would like to see in the show!

Sound off below, we look froward to incorporating your ideas in the pilot episode!

Personally, I'd rather the site be consistently functional first. Maybe have the forums work properly in Firefox for the first time in years. Give the hamster a break and buy some real servers.

Walk before you run, and all that.

General priorities aside, you'd have to find a way to separate yourselves from all the gaming podcasts out there, since that seems like what you're trying to produce.

Fortunately this project doesn't draw on our development team, so you don't have to choose between the two :)

Megaton4119d ago (Edited 4119d ago )

It has seemed like this place doesn't even have a development team for quite some time now. It's good to know that they not only exist, but that they won't be stretched thinner than they already seem to be.

As for N4G TV, discussing the site's hottest news is obvious for a recap show, but I think you should also search out 5 - 10 submissions that flew under the radar, generating little heat while still being interesting reads and/or important news.

Plugging and discussing well-written user blogs and reviews is a good idea, as it would encourage more people to participate. User Q&A is also good for participation, especially if you manage to integrate interviews into the show. Tell the community ahead of time who will be interviewed and open up a channel for user questions.

Something else that might be nice would be to plug a new site in every episode. Like an up and coming blogger who submits to N4G, trying to make a name for themselves. Just don't reward flamebaiters and copy/pasters. Pick good people/sites. People who try their best to spread good information and opinion.

Bubble system should be abolished, and either more mods from different regions(so when US mods are sleeping EU mods can have at it), or simply make sure mods follow a particular shift.

The typical forum 'bad post' rules are god enough, it gets reported, mods get rid of it, person gets suspended or banned - Simple, long term permanent punishment like the bubble system is just...naw.

Ses the guy with 1 bubble.

Edit---Oh yeah the TV thing...I suppose admins and mods should simply have a vote on selected news features. We all know the top news is not always actual news or even a good article/

Should also have a section for post of the week/month and Blogs/reviews of the month etc

And N4g tv show could really spotlight some games that need a spotlight.

While I find this to be a pretty interesting concept, I just can't wrap my head around having content featured. Would it be highest-temperature articles showcased in the episodes? If so, we users can easily read them ourselves since the highest temperature submissions usually make it to the top of the page. :)

It seems pretty redundant to have a recap, so to speak, of articles that a majority of the community has already read by the time the week's episode goes live.

SilentNegotiator4118d ago

I have to agree. That's pretty redundant. It's already a news aggregate site; why an aggregation of the aggregation? AGGREGATION-CEPTION.

And the staff is nice here and everything, but who is the figure head(s) that would be running the show? There's already a million game podcasts. Who/what is involved that anyone should care?

consolez_FTW4119d ago (Edited 4119d ago )

The show could have users skype in and ask questions, comment, or something, that'd be cool..
I'd like to know the faces of some of the users around here eh lol jk.
lets see how it goes

nirwanda4114d ago

I would set up an interview with a game developer and skype the dev and use the comments section to ask questions to the dev and the ones with the most agrees get asked and some chosen by n4g staff and some chosen by the dev from the comments section

iamnsuperman4119d ago

Sounds like a great idea especially highlighting the user content.

Ideas wise maybe highlight a good free game of the week that can be either found by you or recommended by the community and show what it is about

A way to highlight forum post might be an interesting way to get more people involved in the forums

InMyOpinion4119d ago (Edited 4119d ago )

Having a "Troll of the week" section in the show would be fitting. :)

Jokes aside (not really), As Megaton stated - First get the moderation and functionality of the site working properly before widening your content channels. The forum is a mess, and trolling, spam and duplicate accounts are also a low point on N4G that hasn't been dealt with properly.

I also agree with Valenka. Instead of just repeating what everyone's already read why not have the editors pick their own favourite nuggets of the week? Tell us what games you've been playing and/or interview some interesting people from the games industry.

And give some props to the users who write reviews. Some of them are really good.
