Final Fantasy Versus XIII: From 2006 'till 2013 and Beyond

Barret Wallace said, “There’s no gettin’ off this train we on ’til we reach the end of the line!” This rings true for Versus XIII. From the start of this project back in 2006 until now, news has been slow to start. However, the news is still there! I have never seen so many rumors about this game, but with the slow drip on updates, rumors are expected.

They should change the name to Final Fantasy Forever.

I was 16 when the first trailer came out. I'm 23 now.

Summons754119d ago

You mean the cg trailer they showed way before they even started developing the game? Development started in 2009 after a bunch of delays and creative disagreements. 2011 was the first gameplay trailer.

tigertron4119d ago

Yeah, they shouldn't have given us a trailer before they've even started, and even in 2009 with the first gameplay trailer, it's still taken them four years.

Hicken4119d ago

2011 was the first gameplay trailer, not 2009; he literally JUST said it in the comment you responded to.

Versus was announced as one game in the Fabula Nova Crystalis, an ambitious project by Square-Enix that could well have been more than they could handle. Development across the board hasn't been as easy this generation as they thought, so the games we expected- and they expected- to have out already have either been delayed or altered significantly since they began.

Final Fantasy XIII was originally a PS2 title, and made quite a few changes before it was released, including becoming multiplatform. The changes made brought about the creation of sequels that were never intended, while they delays pushed other games back. Struggles with FFXIV have also hampered production of other titles, chief among them the final game in the FNC, Versus.

This has gotten far longer than I intended to be, and I had no thoughts of making excuses for Square-Enix, but we've gotten our hopes up as much as- if not more than- they have, so it's not really right to blame only them.

Do I want Versus? Hell yeah. Am I mad Type-0 hasn't been released in the West? You bet. But me bitching and complaining about things won't make them happen any faster. While I wait- because I can't really do much else- I'll approach current/previous games with an open mind, and try to appreciate them for what they are, instead of judging them by what they aren't.

@Hicken
Agree 100% on what you say. Good to read with someone who actually knows his facts about square-enix instead of saying some false information that happens alot.

But how it goes the bigger the fan base the harder its going to please everyone and alot who will be very pist on not getting what they want. Alot of fans have this set list on what should be a Final Fantasy game which is funny because thats Square-enix to decide on what they think it is for the next game. You might not like it but its still a FF game because square-enix created it.

"Final Fantasy Versus XIII From 2006 to 2013"

A whole lot of nothing.

abzdine4119d ago

i'm quite sure this game will disappoint, if it releases one day!

jagstar444119d ago

i think someone needs to teach square enix not to announce games years before release, just do it like everyone else, announce it like a year and a bit before it's supposed to ship

Glad that I absolutely can't stand subscription services.

Petebloodyonion3d ago (Edited 3d ago )

I don't recall Sony forcing you to subscribe like nobody forced you to go to Blockbuster to rent games instead of buying them.

SonyStyled2d ago

Pay-per-view was almost cheaper than the cost of gas and rental fee from Blockbuster. Blockbuster doesn’t exist today. Are you being sarcastic?

Yuji Naka guilty of insider trading breaks silence to accuse Square Enix producer of lies

Yuji Naka was fined $1.2 million and given a suspended jail sentence for the crime.

I find his comments around how Balan turned out to be very insightful as to why the game is trash. He basically apologises for its existence

solideagle8d ago

can you please give some of us who don't know anything about this, a summary of what happened?

Chocoburger8d ago

Balan was knowingly rushed out by S-E, it had an extremely short dev cycle and was fairly low budget.
Naka was the game's director until near the end when he was fired or perhaps he quit, I forgot.

carrotcakeag8d ago

@Chocoburger Yeah they did fire and replace him which caused him to unload a bunch of rants about the company. The project only existed because of Naka in the first place, he convinced Square to give him one shot at making a platformer. They gave him an opportunity but pulled the rug out before he was done for reasons not explained.

Please o please don't turn dragon quest into final fantasy square enix we dont wont that. Dragon quest works well just as it I. Plus you'll piss off Japanese fans to.

jznrpg12d ago

Hopefully they don’t. From this it doesn’t sound like that is the case and development is just taking too long.
