Oprainfall writes: "There have been many games that have passed through my hands over the 30 some years I have been gaming. Some stand out more than others, as is the case with everyone. I cannot easily count the number of games I have finished. When I begin to think about the games that stand out most, Xenogears is the first one that comes to mind. It came along during the great JRPG boom of the PSone era; it had a lot of competition. One would think that it would be eclipsed by the juggernaut that is Final Fantasy 7, and I am sure some people feel that way. There are, to me, several reasons why I feel this game goes above and beyond that in depth and scope."
Square Enix's interest in reviving its classics is the long-awaited ray of hope and the ideal chance to resurrect adored gems like Xenogears.
Seriously, I mean if anything an HD Remaster. I wish they had the balls to allow the entire story to be made, but I get the financial gamble won't all for it.
Square Enix suggested they might remaster more games from their storied archives—here are the classics we’d like to see get a new coat of paint.
I would definitely enjoy a Xenogears remaster. Recently finished Legend of Dragoon again (this time with platinum trophy) and would love to dive back into Xenogears with Fei and the rest of the crew.
Square Enix classics? dont they mean Squaresoft. Square Enix dont make classic games, just games with pretty graphics, no heart & soul, boring & over stuffed with woke Gen Z cockiness.
But while were on the subject i would love too see a remaster of Front Mission 3.
An unofficial Xenogears HD remaster is now available for download, introducing interface, sprites and texture improvements.
While there are night and day improvements to textures and assets such as character portraits and maps, contrary to the article, it doesn't seem like they touch any sprites with this romhack.
This is how remasters should look, I would love to have this game on PS4/PS5, it really gives the game new life.
the problem with Xenogears is that it's just sooo easy an then it has so much more text than gameplay that it feels more like a visual novel. Yeah the story is good but it would have been better as an anime, trilogy of movies or something rather than the boring game that it is.
Xenogears was one of the games that sold me on the PS1 back when I was in high school. I remember the Pizza Hut demo with this, the opening of Bushido Blade 2, movies of FF8, and I forgot the rest. The story alone kept me interested, and the combat was different from the typical RPG, my only complaint was how off the audio was with the scenes.
I saw they re-released this on PSN and I plan on picking it up in the future; right now I still have some games I have yet to even open.
IMO this was the BEST RPG on the PS1 that was ever made. I liked it soooo much better than the likes of FF7. Better story, better gameplay, better everything.
Clicked immediately after recognizing the X from Xenogears! :-) It is my first RPG and my favourite game ever. The story was mind blowing and I was screaming and jumping all around my room when it was revealed that Fei is Id. I still crave that joy which I experienced playing Xenogears and Final Fantasy VIII for the first time. I have all my original PS1 collection on PS3 and treasure it.
Xenogears is my favorite PS1 RPG game of all time. I used to like FF7 a lot, until I played through Xenogears. Aerith dying in FF7 was sad, but Xenogears brought up more topics that poked at religion and questioned existence. Xenogears wasn't just you vs a bad guy. It was you vs existence. There are a lot of details in Xenogears than FF7, IMO, which made me like it.
Xenogears really opened my mind in story telling for a ps1 game. It's an amazing game that not a lot of people played.
