There is nothing broken but there is nothing that makes it really stand out either. The cast of characters are interesting and each brings their own unique style of fighting to game, which is what a good fighter should do. The combat itself is just complex and fun in small chunks but, in the end, you will find one or two moves you like with each character and spam the hell out of them. Even on the highest difficulty you can still win in this way with little to no problems. When playing with human players online, the game feels much better in this regard as human players will not fall for the tricks the AI will. It is a decent fighting game at best but I can’t recommend this one at full price. If you catch it on sale, you may want to pick it up for a trip down memory lane. But beyond that, I would save my cash for something else."
While Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale didn't get the best review, there are still some aspects of the game that deserve some credit.
Though PlayStation All Stars Battle Royale is a bit of a cult classic, it could have been a big hit if it launched in 2022 instead of 2012.
It wouldn't have mattered, Sony would've rushed it out and left it to die. More so now than before with their focus now being on SP narrative driven AAA games.
Oh, but somehow Smash Bros. 64 made it work?
It just couldn’t compete with Smash Bros. and it wasn’t a free-to-play game like Multiversus.
I think it released at the right time. It's just after the success of Smash and Multiversus, it's finally time for a sequel.
I'd be all in on a remake or remaster of the original. I enjoyed it because I didn't sit there and compare every aspect to SSB. I just enjoyed it as it was.
Sony should make part 2 and dump a good amount of money on it. Scrap super only kills and it's bound to succeed.
God of War: Ragnarok has plenty of fun references to PlayStation history, but now fans have discovered a conversation that calls back to PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale — the crossover fighting game released for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita.
That’s interesting. It actually does make it canon lol. He mentioned it in a mainline game. I’d say that’s pretty cool.
...
Reviews that give this score or lower are ridiculous.
Having played the game myself, and having many (and I mean MANY) friends who had played this game, or have it themselves; I find it REALLY hard to believe you've actually played the game. Or, maybe you're just bad at it....
ugh.
As is life, there will always be haters
Ah a review that came 2 months after the game was released that gave a much lower score than the other, more reputable gaming sites. Seems useful.
I haven't met a single person who doesn't either really enjoy or LOVE this game. I've even had a few friends who can't go back to Smash Bros., like myself. Smash Bros. is just too simple now. There isn't enough depth to the combat and the balancing issues make it unplayable for serious fighting fans.
All-Stars may be a brawler, but it was made by some of the industry's top fighting developers/gamers. They know what they're doing when it comes to combat.
This game isn't that bad. The graphics are outstanding, arcade mode is fun, there are a ton of unlockables, and the nemesis system is amazing. it runs very smooth too! anything below a 7/10 is ridiculous.
