always take with a grain of salt.

The only real negative on the hardware side is that of the wii-u sales.

Everything else was up. Nothing wrong with positive numbers to close out the year.

Godchild10204131d ago (Edited 4131d ago )

We still have a week left in 2012 for Vgcharts to post numbers for.

I agree, take with a grain of salt, but they are the only numbers we have on a weekly bases for a global chart. I will wait until the big 3 to post their numbers in a couple months. If anything, its nice to see the Vita pulling in 200k the week leading up to Christmas. Overall, they all did well for themselves, if numbers can be trusted.

Muerte24944131d ago (Edited 4130d ago )

for the BIG guys because these numbers mean absolutely nothing. We don't know what they're tracking model include (online retailers unlike npd). You have NPD for US sales, and Media Create/Famitsu for Japan. There is currently no analyst firm tracking EU/PAL because of the different laws and regions. I agree with you waiting on Big three numbers so no disagree here.

On another note, people need to stop complaining about shipped vs sold to consumer. Once these companies ship their product, they're compensated for them. This is why companies use ship numbers because these consoles have already been bought by retailers. That why you see individual retailers having sales at different times. It's the retailers job to move their allocation off of the shelves.

VgCHartz uses sold to consumer which indicates the install base of the system. But then one would have to factor in the defective ratio to get a clearer picture of the actual install base.

Within the next two weeks we'll be seeing Microsoft release their Holiday quarter sales. Two weeks after that, Sony will be releasing theirs. SOny will release their numbers early February but these number won't include January. They release their number later because their have more branches/divisions in their company compared to others.

3DS is like a Prius right now... IT CAN'T BE STOPPED!

EddieNX 4131d ago

At this rate - with the right games and some price drops. The 3DS will overtake the DS..... It's on course to do so.

Doesn't matter if 3D is not for everyone , that's what's great about the slider . You turn 3D off and it turns anti aliasing on. I prefer to play with 3D on all the time though....

clrlite4131d ago

Yes and I hope it does!

This is further confirmation that dedicated handhelds are here to stay, naysayers are eating their words, etc.

In a market with so much supposed "competition" it is great to see consoles and portables flourish.

This is a win for real gamers everywhere. Now lets keep this thing going by supporting devs/publishers that put out quality games/consoles.

Anon19744131d ago (Edited 4131d ago )

Hey look everyone. Made up sales data!

Now fight!

NiceGuy3604130d ago

Hey look everyone. I don't have to be here and yet here I am!
Now let me leave a nonsensical comment!

Lvl_up_gamer4130d ago

You don't seem to have a problem with the data when it's favoring the PS3....

Amazing how the loyalists of one particular console easily flip flop depending on what the data says.

AngelicIceDiamond4130d ago

Yeah I noticed that to. Less people were saying "fake numbers" on the European VGChartz when the PS3 was leading the console sales.

god_mode4130d ago (Edited 4130d ago )

That's usually how this guy and most operate. He even submitted a VGChartz article because it stated that the 360 had a 20% drop year on year.

sandman2244131d ago

Okay, ps3 always has a hard time staying ahead of 360, but you have to admit the gap is getting smaller and smaller.

clrlite4131d ago

The fact that PS3 is doing so well in comparison, even with MS aggressive marketing(here in the states) is what surprises me.

I suppose what Sony has to offer as far as hardware and games really does play a significant roll.

darthv724131d ago (Edited 4131d ago )

the differences gamers have with one platform or the other have come to a draw. meaning that those who held out getting a ps3 have now gotten one just as those who held out getting a 360 may have gotten one.

There will still be the ones dead set against getting the competition as a secondary console but to those who do...there is nothing wrong with that.

Hicken4130d ago

Well, nobody HAS to, but that doesn't stop it from being true.

Chances are that the change in position will be permanent in a month or two. Well, to be more specific, we'll find out when the earnings reports for each company comes out in a few months.

god_mode4130d ago

PS3's gap should be catching up considering that it is an established brand and coming off the extreme popularity of PS1 and 2.
I think the real question should be why it took 6 to 7 years just to catch up.

The 3DS is a beast and I don't even understand why. I can only assume the huge backlog of DS titles is what's keeping this beast fed and alive. Other than that I don't see the appeal for the system.

Just Dance 4, I am sadden to say that I contributed to a sale and bought one for my niece to play.

wii u should be at the top of the list right under 3DS.. Whats preventing people from buying it? Everyone says it has the best launch & the best game experiences.. Maybe people still dont understand what it is.. That or people like PS3/360s line up of upcoming software better & will just buy it later on when PS4/720 release

crazy_man4130d ago

Mainly Europe it what is keeping the the Wii U at these numbers. It's still tracking ahead of the 360 and PS3 globally launch aligned and right on the Wii's tale. Though if it truly wants Wii numbers it needs to be 200k+ for many many weeks to come.

dark-hollow4130d ago

And vita shouldn't be at the second bottom.

crazy_man4130d ago

Even with the hoilday boost...yeah.

Medicore sales all around.

YoungPlex4130d ago

"wii u should be at the top of the list right under 3DS.." -_-

Sooo, by your logic the Vita should be at the top of the list like the PS3? So tell me, how is it that the Wii U could do any better than Xbox or PS3 when Nintendo predicted that they would sell 3 million by years end and just barely missed the target? Your so smart man!

The 3DS struggled more than the Wii U in its initial launch. The real answers will come after the holiday! No body is going to be lining up for any systems because of the holidays. These numbers are a week behind and when they post up next weeks numbers, the Wii U will probably be at 2.5 million or higher. That's about .5k less than predicted which is still great!

Mugen Souls Retro Review – Sexy Demon Space Adventure

Gary Green said: We have a juxtaposition of 2D and 3D visuals, flashy turn-based combat, quirky anime characters with cheeky dialogue with plenty of partial nudity; Yes, this is a Compile Heart JRPG. Whilst the engine is borrowed from Hyperdimension Neptunia mk2, Mugen Souls is more of a Disgaea spin-off. It’s not a strategy RPG as such, it merely sits within Disgaea’s ever-expanding universe (Multiverse? Netherverse? Your guess is as good as mine). You won’t find cameos though, since Mugen Souls is a franchise which aims to stand on its own two feet.

Looking Back At 2008, An Unbelievably Incredible Year Of Video Game Releases

Huzaifa from eXputer: "2008 was home to the likes of Call of Duty: World at War, Dead Space, GTA 4, Far Cry 2, Left 4 Dead, and many other hits, which is outright remarkable."

CrimsonWing697h ago

I don’t think anything can compare to 2023

lucasnooker7h ago

1998 - the best year in gaming! Metal gear solid, crash bandicoot 3, medievil, half life, ocarina of time, thief, tenchu, resident evil 2, Spyro, tomb raider 3, oddworld abes exodus, banjo kazooie.

It was a different breed of a gaming era. You’ll never understand what it was like back then. The aura of gaming, it was different!

KyRo7h ago(Edited 6h ago)

I second this. Gaming was a lot more varied and fun than it is today. I'm 35 so getting on compared to some here but I got to see all the changes from NES up to now but I've never felt so disappointed in any generation than I have this current gen. I was expecting more from this generation rather than prettier versions of games that came before it. Game mechanics have become so refined that alot of games feel the same and has done for a while now.

Maybe it's time to have a break for a while. I love gaming but I don't feel I get much fun in the traditional sense out of it anymore.

CrimsonWing696h ago(Edited 6h ago)

Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil 2, Abe’s Exodus, and Ocarina of Time are the only things from that list that I liked.

Here’s the 2023 game releases that I personally liked… and big releases that I didn’t care for:

- Dead Space Remake
- Wo Long Dynatsy
- Resident Evil 4 Remake
- Diablo 4
- Fire Emblem Engage
- Hogwarts Legcay
- Street Fighter 6
- Hi-Fi Rush
- Like a Dragon: Ishin
- Octopath Traveler 2
- Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters
- Final Fanatsy XVI (actually ended up not liking this, but it was still a big deal release)
- Baldur’s Gate 3
- Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon
- Lies of P
- Mortal Kombat 1
- Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
- Starfield (Ended up hating this one, but big release)
- Super Mario Bros. Wonder
- Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (I’m an old-school Zelda fan, but didn’t really enjoy this game)
- Alan Wake 2

I mean, honestly I’ve never seen a year of major IP releases like that, ever.

Profchaos3h ago(Edited 3h ago)

Isn't it just a generational thing realistically.

I've been gaming since way back and I some of my favourite games go as far back as the late 80s for me each generation has a year or two of game changing releases one after another before an inevitable dry spell.

I kind of agree gaming had a different feel games hit different because we didn't have the internet nothing got spoiled and you really had to put in the effort to beat a puzzle which could set entire groups of people looking for a solution. But most importantly games were experimental and not as cookie cutter as today even basics like controls were not universal today r2 is shoot l2 is ads garunteed you can't deviate from that in a shooter back then it could of been square, R1 or R1 and circle nothing was standard.

But as time moves on a new generation picks up their controller they are going to be interested in different things that PS1 demo disc with the t Rex blew our primitive 16 bit brains back on launch but to kids today it's laughable.
The new gen of kids coming into to hobby seem to value different things to us there seems to be a huge focus on online play, streamers, gaming personalities, and social experiences, convience of digital downloads. To me I value none of that but that's ok like my parents not liking the band's I would listen to its just the natural cycle.

6 Fun Games Where You Actually Play As The Bad Guy

While the mainstream media always sees things turning in favor of the hero, here are 6 games that own being a bad guy.

Profchaos13h ago

Pretty much all of these games listed are based around a morality system you don't have to be bad and you don't have to be good.

It seems to have left out some real amazing games like red dead redemption 1/2,ass effect and true crime la/ny

Tacoboto12h ago

Armored Core VI?

Ok, I'm really missing something here. Just beat chapter 3 earlier this evening, unlocked A-rank Arena fights. I'm not seeing or sensing any branching paths or morality system and I've done every side mission and arena fight available to me up to that fight.

Is something big coming soon to branch the story?

banger8812h ago

No mention of Grand Theft Auto? Saints Row (original trilogy), Manhunt? Also The Suffering (depending on the ending you get).

ChasterMies1h ago

Trevor in GTA 6 is a sadist and psychopath who dabbles in cannibalism. Should be top of the list. These game “news” sites should hire people that know games.
