The Walking Dead Survival Instinct FPS Gameplay Looks Rotten

Activision’s The Walking Dead Survival Instinct gets a gameplay video and it’s not looking good for the first FPS iteration of a The Walking Dead game.

Games always have a first build and then they improve on the game in coming months before the release date, all they've said is 2013, no fixed date so anything can happen yet, we could be getting something amazing when it's finished so just give time for Activision ( fantastic devs)

True, but this is beyond sub par. It looks like it's not only running on an outdated engine, but also has piss poor physics and static animations. It looks like a horrible mess.

it is just now a days cool to hate on Activision.
This is the very early build as stated and even though it is no Left 4 Dead, but it is more interesting than the Tell Tale's version, and i liked that too

Does indeed look quite bad, I highly doubt that the game will be very good, a lot can change in a year, but not that much! yet still not as bad as WarZ :P Early build or not it still looks piss poor, and if this is nothing like they intend the final product to be, then why on earth would you release such shitty gameplay if this isn't somewhat going to represent the final product?!?

Indeed, it does look messy. Looks like a Call of Duty game, but moved into The Walking Dead world, but still running an older engine.

I bashed this the first time, but I'll give it the benefit of the doubt, now that I know it's still in the Alpha stages.

However, they need to get it together if they want this game to sale, because the name alone won't carry it.

Agree you can tell it's a early build. People are just hating on it because it has Activision written all over it. People even go as far to claim that it seems similar to COD -_-

no dude, I'll defend CoD where applicable (CoD4, BlOPS I, haven't played BLOPS II but hear it's really good) but this is horrible, plain and simple. those types of physics and animations are the type you'd expect to see in an iOS game like Modern Combat. the story might be good I don't know but it's clear as day that the graphics and gameplay aren't; they're archaic, animations look borderline primitive. early build excuse doesn't cut it here.

the lighting effects on the axe were quite cool though

Games do improve over development time , but it's not magic

This is true but normally you will see early build or something to this effect to let people know that this is far from how the final version will look. I see no evidence of this.

I do find it hard to believe that a house such as Activision how has been around so long and produced so many a great title would release a generic shovel-ware FPS so they can jump on the Walking Dead Gravy train. Only time will tell...

It's to soon to judge. I say wait till its close to being released then give your opinion. I must say, zombie u looks a heck of a lot better. I think that's the route activision is going with this game.

I think the reality of this footage is if this is real early on, then this game has some promise. They need to tweak the way the Zombies react, a little too slow for my take based on what we have all seen in the show and you seem to be able to sneak around way too easily in this build. The character movement also needs to get tweaked...seemed like you were just a floating set of hands. Give a sense of bulk and weight to your body.

Overall though I thought it looked better than I expected based on so many others reactions. Lets hope they can turn this into a gem. That all said, I am most excited for State of Decay for my next Zombie game.

Why are people defending this? It looks terrible. The zombie's look plastic, the animations are awful, the AI looks non existent & then theres screen tearing. Virtually no tactics to survival (runs straight past the zombies, even getting hit like twice) It all looks like a really crappy mod or something

I miss the early 2000's when we had great pc games like Return to Castle Wolfenstein and Soldier of Fortune 2,

Raven software needs to make a comeback to show how fun FPS games can be, these days we only have Valve and possibly ID(if they don't screw up Doom 4) to make great FPS games.

Personally, I don't care what it looks like.
As long as it has a great story/characters to suck me in, I'll be good. And with Norman Reedus and Michael Rooker actually voicing their characters from the show, we won't have to worry about horrible voice impersonators.

How can you even say that. Do you have an hdtv or anything? I invested a lot of money into hi def equiptment and if someone puts out a game that looks like COD on a PS2, I would be pissed if I spent my money on it no matter how good the story is. I'm a big walking dead fan and if they dont turn out a good game on this I will be very upset if they sully the Walking Dead name with some crapshot slapped together game. That's the kind of garbage they pull with movie tie-in's, and they always suck, bad.

Yes, I have an HDTV. I've had one since 2006. And even a craptastic game can come in 720/1080p, my friend. Obviously you're not a "big walking dead fan" if you don't care about story. ;)
