PC gaming seems cool but it's waaaay to expensive.

ACBAA4125d ago

if you mean that you have to build a pc first, then ok.

but a game itself has never been more expensive than consoles ones respectively

XBox 360 vs. PC price with same quality of games = about the same or with PC costing less considering XBL yearly subscription.

Better quality for only a couple hundred more. PC easily outranks a console with value. Games don't deactivate after year 2. Servers live as long as gamers like that game and keep a server going.

I heard someone say there rig was like 4000 though?

DeadlyFire4124d ago (Edited 4124d ago )

Well you can scale a PC up to as high spec as you want it to be, but in reality its not necessary to do that at all for 60 fps 1080 you can setup a rig for under $800 easy.

A monitor will only put out as many fps as number of hertz it can produce and on average that measures up to 60-75 Hertz @ 1080 for around $120-200, but you can get them to go higher than that for a hefty price up to $600 and more for just monitor at 120Hz.

All depends on how you want to scale it. For $4000 its safe to say your friend overpayed quite a bit, but to each their own. Some prefer to be with all the latest and greatest gear, but truthfully most of it is beyond what it can really do in a system like that.

Friend's system probably has Power supply around 1000 W when only 600W is really needed. There is probably 2 Video cards in Crossfire/SLI in the system. Doesn't always offer more than 10 fps boast in most titles. Other things like that as well. The most I would pay for a luxury system with all bells and whistles would be $1500-2000 from a retailer. Assemble yourself for less though.

The system I have I got from Dell. Bought it at Wal-Mart. Dell XPS 420. Upgraded the video card, and added 2nd Hard Drive. Its done fine for me with everything I have bought so far. Might need to upgrade it to 64-bit soon, but its done pretty well.

@MightyGeovanny

I've heard of people spending $85,000 on a pair of speakers (DynAudio Evidence Master). I've heard of people spending over $2 million for a car (Bugatti Veyron GSV). Does this represent the price of all speakers and cars?

MikeMyers4124d ago (Edited 4124d ago )

You could build your own computer or have one built for you that is easily under $1,000 and that includes an operating system and a monitor. Anything over $2,000 is simply just for those who have to have the best of the best. You can also get a PC up and running on par with current consoles for about $500 which sounds like a lot. Difference is the PC can do many more things than just play games, and do it more effectively.

What this list of games for 2013 shows is just how popular PC gaming still is. Even if only half the games mentioned got released in 2013 one would have to quit their job (or school) just to find the time to play them all. The PC offers the most diverse library and the games are very affordable that start from free.

whoever says their rig was 4,000$ they probably bought a bundle of ssd drives,3 graphic cards,top of the line cpu.

you don't need that to max 1080p out on pc. a pc that cost 1,200$ would be a really good build.

@MightyGeovanny

You picked the worst time of the year to make that claim.

Good list. Quite a few games.

ATi_Elite4125d ago

Huge list full of Games but it's the PC Exclusives that got me excited as I found a few more games I had no clue about!

StarForge and Elite Dangerous I had no clue about but I'm ready to throw money at them.

When the guy fell from Low Orbit space all the way to Earth Ground in such pretty graphical detail in Starforge i thought to myself "This needs to be on my SSD right friggin now"

Elite Dangerous versus X-Rebirth versus StarCitizen is gonna be a battle for Space Sim Combat supremacy like no other!

Lots of AAA Games were not on the List like ArcheAge, Blade & Soul, and Project CARS etc.. Oh well too many to list i guess!

DeadlyFire4125d ago

Wait what? Sadly I did not even hear about half of these games until now. Gaming news these days suck, but at least I see them now. I love this list. It covers many indies that typically don't see much light of day from typical game news outlets.

Battle Cry of Freedom sounds amazing. 500 player battles in Civil war era. Been waiting forever to see someone put a Civil War game out.
