Microsoft Giving Affected Users of Cloud Outage a Free Month of XBL

Major Nelson writes:

"Thank you for your patience.

I wanted to update everyone that the Xbox LIVE Cloud Saved Games feature is back online. The Xbox Operations team has been working around the clock to get the issues resolved. I also wanted to pass along the below note from Alex Garden and let you know what we’re doing for those that were affected by the issue."

It's nice to see MS on top of this, first by acknowledging there was an issue, keeping fans up to date via the website and finally making amends to the affected without delay. That's the way problems like this should be handled. Good job!

Cloud went out and people couldn't access saves.....this is the reason cloud services will never be standard.

Nevers4130d ago (Edited 4130d ago )

Yeah... it was a real pi$$er, imHo. The night before this happened, my girlfriend and I had just transferred all of our saved games over to cloud so she could fit the Borderlands 2 DLC onto her HDD. Not having any access to our save files for the 1st weekend after Xmas sucked... I was able to access mine as of late Saturday night but as of last night she still wasn't able to access her cloud.

I've taken all my saved games back. My girlfriend will do the same, space pending. Xbox's Cloud is now absolutely useless to me. I also want to get my saves back from PS3'a cloud... though I get the impression it works differently... maybe it's a non-issue.

No you can get all your saves back on PSN. But if the game has a locked save file then you have to wait 24 hours after uploading it to the cloud until you download it back onto your HDD.

Sweet! Thanks for the info =]

Cloud will be standard - problems happen with all sorts of stuff online - it's the same when online gaming first happened, there were major hiccups - now online gaming is a standard.

Cloud storage being offline wasn't a big deal, it effected my wife with her halo campaign, no big deal, i copied the stuff that was pending upload to her hard drive and she could continue.

Giving a free month for something that was so minor was definitely very decent of them.

it was a big downer. I like the way the PS3 does cloud storage more. means I'll never be left SOL when the cloud storage has a hick-up.

But Ill take the free month of XBL and move on. I was at mostly slightly annoyed, nothing major.

doogiebear4130d ago (Edited 4130d ago )

Shhhh....Don't mention the PS3. U don't wanna make 360 dudes jealous.

SolidSystem4130d ago

i guess so.

The fact my saves sync between my system and cloud is great IMHO. every night if my system sees a newer save, it downloads it. if the clouds is older than the one on my system....the cloud downloads my systems save. I'm never without my save.

Xbox 360 Turns 18: Three Cheers to Live, Halo, and Red Rings

The Xbox 360 launched in North America 18 years ago, and is now officially old enough to buy you a drink in Europe.

Great platform, and many of its games (not bc) still hold up well to this day. Like the PS3, I keep a 360 hooked up for those games you can't play any other way.

The last gasp of greatness from XBox, you are missed, except the RROD that was lame, but amazing exclusives until the Kinect dropped.

TheBrainZ152d ago

So many brilliant games. I still have one stored somewhere.

LG_Fox_Brazil152d ago

I really enjoyed my X360, some great exclusives on it. Used to play the shit out ot Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey, two masterpieces

I remember when Live turned five and they had special edition controllers made and everything. Kind of wished they would do that again for the 20th.

Happy Birthday. OG XBL (and later 360 XBL) really revolutionized online gaming on console.

Crows90523d ago

Never understood the obsession with live...but I was gaming online on PC so not sure too much of what live did that the PlayStation didn't.

Profchaos523d ago

I had a PS2 and it's online experience was fine but it didn't have the same level of polish voice chat never worked for me but I was trying to play from Australia where not many people played PS2 online to the point where many devs simply dropped the online mode from the pal version.
That's not all PS2 games mind you there were plenty that worked perfectly but it was more on the dev and not the platform

During that era I also played a fairly large amount on online PC games and they were undoubtedly better than both systems. PS2 from functionality and Xbox because it was free

Playing my friends original Xbox it was a really polished experience it felt robust yet simple things just worked there was zero config.

Crows90523d ago (Edited 523d ago )

Yeah but the time ps3 came the experience was the same on both based on what I played...not too much online though to be honest. But I do think that the xbox did help bring online into the console space a lot. As well as PC games to consoles.

Today would of been the perfect day to drop halo 2 the original bc version free on gwg.... If only
