I played the demo. It was ok. I'm not a die hard DMC fan so I couldn't really compare, but the demo is worse than Enslaved and Heavenly Sword so, I think Ninja Theory is sort of doing something wrong. They have games with really funny dialog and believable character interactions. This not so much. May rent it, but from first impressions, I wasn't sold.

It is just as expected. This game will get top scores because everybody is loving the dumbed down gameplay and the western look. Everybody feels like instant pros by pulling infinite combos on training dummies called enemies that just stand there and getting SSS for doing nothing. It just makes everybody feel good about their supposedly "MAD SKILLZZ". I havent read even a single negative article about this game by any gaming publication. The real thing will be sales so let us see how this game does without the support of original DMC fans.

Well, if some of you guys love this game so much, then you can buy 20 copies each and show your gratitude to the developer by offering them the illusion of success. Because I figure that's the only way they will get to taste success, after repeatedly insulting the existing fanbase.

No one in is right mind can say Donte may Cry plays exactly like classic DMC and if you do, then you are a liar or you've never played a DMC game before... Probably both!

If I wanted 20-30fps hack and slash action, I would wait for Castlevania LoS2. In fact, that's exactly what I will be doing! In the meantime there's God of War and Metal Gear Rising, which came out of left field and is very fun to play.

Most reviewers, that receive early copies of games, are instructed to hold off publishing the review until the game is released, unless the review is overwhelmingly positive. From time to time you'll hear of a review that deviates from this, but they usually don't get early copies of games from publishers anymore. As a result the initial batch of reviews is a bit skewed and a prudent gamer would wait a week or two in order to make a well informed evaluation.

They haven't been payed off. In fact, no reviewer in the video game industry has ever has been payed off. If there is bribery in this industry, and there probably is, it's a lot more subtle than giving someone money. It's about pressuring the reviewer to give a good review, and blacklisting those who don't.

played the demo thought it was aight but not something i will pay full $60 for. With early 2013 as packed, i am gonna have to pick and choose(its not about the money with work/family barely have time for games so only want to play what i have to)

i don't think this game will get bad reviews, most DMC fans are still not over the fact this game doesn't have old dante, seriously get over it. Capcom told NT to give the character a new look, they returned with similar looking dante but capcom rejected it.

there is DMC HD collection so enjoy old school DMC and this one will be with a fresh twist. also DMC 4 wasn't a'' that so it was either time for this series to take a long break or a reboot.

You dont understand it's not just the characters but the gameplay, the style switching, the difficulty, the ranking, the combo system, the weapon switching, the guns, the targeting system, the retarded enemies, etc. The game has no skill required.

You guys keep mouthing off that we're ass hurt about the characters but we're way past that at this point after the demo and the many gameplay trailers.

DMC4 should have been better than DMC3 especially with the on-the-fly style switching with Dante but sadly... his gameplay was only for less than half of the game and we were stuck with a whiny little boy called Nero. Not to mention the repetitive levels. They were just lazy with DMC4.

I do not think there was any surprise that this game was going to do well with reviews, especially considering how the media has defended Capcom and Ninja Theory since day 1. OXM gave it a 9/10 as well and I am expecting PSM, IGN and Destructoid to give it a high score of 9/10 as well. Jim Sterling possibly even giving it a 10/10.

- Lots of fun variation in the level design. Dante swings between platforms, avoids incoming trains and explores vertical sewers

- The multiple stage transformations throughout the game is well integrated in the story that is being told

- DMC-veterans will feel "home"

- Basically all the changes has been for the better good; combining Devil May Cry's deep, sophisticated action with the modern action-adventure stage-design

Here its even said that the demo is form an earlier build of the game. That being said, Ive had a "mostly" positive experience with the demo. Yes combat is different and there are things I dont like: theres no lock-on button, you dont seem to be able to fire Ebony&Ivory in different directions and there is no wall run. Those issues aside after a play through or two I was fine with the combat.

So as a whole I haven't shared the "majority" of the gripes you guys have. Im sorry. But as Ive said before I do understand why some might not like the gameplay changes and I havent condemned you for it.

BUT. On the subject of the score I honestly cant say that I agree or dont agree with the score of 9/10 for the game because I myself have not played the final product. On that note scores are subjective anyway, what you might deem a 9/10 (for example Assassin creed 2) I might personally think is a 7 (which I do, but just my two cents). DMC4 got a lot of high marks that I didnt agree with.

I will also say I find it funny that people actually will call ANY upcoming favorable review for DmC a "bought review"(hence my earlier comment...it was a joke), but the moment a 4/10 pops up (And trust me there will be many)the comments section will be flooded with many people smiling and parading around that these reviews are the "true" reviews. When no one did this with RE4 or Ninja Gaiden. Where any review for either one of those games that was well bellow a 7 was spot on in pretty much everyone's eyes. Yet those same media outlets that gave those once "spot-on" reviews will now all of a sudden be labeled "paid for" at the sight of a favorable DmC review, mark my words.

why release a demo then? The last time i checked a demo is something that is supposed to represent the game. If the demo is shitty then usually the game is shitty too. I played the demo and it was better than expected. But my expectations were low to begin with. They re-vised Dante a bit to look less like a teenage punk, and when you go into that super frenzy mode (or whatever it's called) he looks more like the original Dante with a red jacket and white hair.

The only thing bugging me is the choppy frame rate. Jesus, it's been 5+ years since they worked on the PS3 and they STILL can't get the frame rate right on any of their games.

Whathever Im a huge RE fan and even though i didnt like the direction capcom was taking RE6 i played the demo with an open mind. To me that demo was crap and i knew that the retail version would be crap even before i had played it. We all know the reviews RE6 got.

I never played any DMC game but when i see DMC fans, that supported the franchise since the beggining, saying that the new DMC is inferior to the previous titles i believe them because they know what they're talking about just like i knew what i was talking about when i was saying to everyone that wanted to hear me that RE6 was going to be crappola.

The 1st few RE6 reviews were also scored highly so i take these initial DMC reviews with a grain of salt.

BTW I just laugh when i see people dismissing altoguether the possibility that these initial reviews could indeed been paid because we all know that there were never reported cases of paid reviews *cough gamespot kane and lynch *cough or unprofessional reviews *cough didnt finish the game before reviewing it *cough and we all know that capcom hasn't underhanded business practices *cough disc locked dlc *cough under their belt.

A huge and very well known brand that's been around since 5th console generation does NOT need massive media hype. RE 4 sold very well. RE 5 also sold more than enough to warrant an even more action focused sequel. Capcom predicted that it'll sell well (target was 6 million copies if I'm not mistaken) due to Resident Evil name and some people, including fans, were hopeful that the game will turn out to be good. But it turned out to be utter crap but still managed to sell a couple million copies.

DmC, however, already had a massive hate from Devil May Cry fanbase since the day it was announced. Did you expect that Capcom wouldn't try to pull some very simple PR moves to give some sheep hype so they'd buy the game?

Also why are you blatantly forgetting the regular damage control these so called publishings and reviewing websites do? IGN did this with God Hand and many other games' reviews. They give something a bad/good early preview/review and then when it turns out to be utter, irredeemable sh*t, they start a damage control campaign and write new stuff accordingly.

Because it's Resident Evil; Resident Evil is a huge name and because of that it's expected to sell very well no matter what. I also believe that with Resident Evil 6 Capcom really thought they had it in the bag. They thought that they had made a game that satisfied everyone, but in the end that wasn't the case.

With DmC however, what they did was very risky so it would be believed that Capcom has tried their best to convince journalist to convince the public that the game is great, but I've thought of another reason for their actions. Ninja Theory has been in the good eyes of many journalist for awhile now. Journalist see Ninja Theory has a company with potential who have yet made a successful game. So in order to help them become successful they've helped fuel this controversy by defending NT and making fun of the fans by creating this false accusation that the hate has only been about the white hair (in the first trailer he had a patch of white hair so we know this is not the case) and portraying them as whiny fanboys. Of all the articles that have been out of this game only one had ever looked at the game from a skeptical fans perception, but never has one looked at the full story as to why the hate existed.

I want to make it clear though that I don't think all of the sites have done this or that Ninja Theory went up to these people and paid them with money, but I don't see it being completely impossible to believe that many of these sites who have praised Ninja Theory, calling them great story tellers and the like may have been a little bias in order to help them succeed into something bigger.

Think about it, ever since this game was revealed not once has NT's direction been questioned. It's been praised right from the start. With Resident Evil, journalist don't care if those games are successful; hell if this was a regular DMC game or a reboot handled by the original team they probably still wouldn't care. Ninja Theory's involvement may have influenced journalist into wanting the game to succeed so Ninja Theory can be successful for once.

TL;DR: RE6 would sell regardless what journalist think, journalist don't really give a damn about RE or DMC, but they want Ninja Theory to succeed and become bigger than what they are because they believe they have potential.

This is the reviewers fault. Because of all the score inflation regarding AAA and A titles and then ascribing different types of reviewers that would lead toward their "bias/opinion", the general viewer no longer holds them credible.

GT gave RE6 a high score because it is a great game. It's just considered a bad point in the RE series because it strays away from survival horror and into the blockbuster action game genre, that's why people bash the game.

It's funny how malicious some people get over videogames. People put in hard work to make them for others to enjoy.

The problem isn't the game, the problem is a core group of people who have nothing better to do than spew negativity in hopes others join their pathetic bandwagon. In fact some of them are so determined they are willing to create multiple accounts just to get their point across and be heard.

Don't people have anything better to do than write "I hate this, I hate that, that sucks, they are terrible, those games shouldn't be played, reviewers are paid to be biased, the media is against so-and-so, I hope the game fails..."

Exactly my point. It looks like a pretty damn good action game. But NOT Devil May Cry. That just kills it for me... They basically just used the DMC name for sales which is pathetic. On top of what logic said, the demo (as all demos) clearly states "this is not a representation of the final product." And it may very well be the case, since most of the people who played the game previously to the demo, said it was the same demo from previous events, meaning it could have been an old build of the game.

I'm not sold on this game just yet, but you should at least stay optimistic, since I'm sure you consider yourself a DMC fan.

Limbo is a god send to this game, and is the greatest addition to the DMC series in a while.

There may actually be a good story this time (the more I see it the more it reminds me of the Blade movies. Tone and all.).

And while the combat isn't up to Capcom's and a bit simpler, it's still fun.

Enough already with the stupidity and hypocrisy . Everyone got an opinion on games beforehand , it shouldnt stop because this time it's a negative one and got no argument to properly defend a game .

The demo seemed decent, but it doesn't feel like DMC, no matter what some of these people say. Not in atmosphere, and not in gameplay. And that wouldn't be so bad... if it wasn't supposed to be Devil May Cry.

Well, not to take up for the devs, but what do you expect when people blatantly disrespected them first? They were put on this game to work on it because Capcom asked them to. DmC looks to be a different type of Devil May Cry game, what in the hell is so wrong with trying something completely different for a change with the IP? It still looks to be Devil May Cry at its' core but they changed some things about the story and the characterization a bit. Nothing wrong with that whatsoever. The framerate is slower, nothing TERRIBLE about slower framerates as long as the action holds up well with them, and from what I've played and seen it does quite fine on 30fps.

People will disagree with me, I'm sure. But these fans really need to stop their incessant complaining about this game by now. It's about to be out in 2 weeks or so, and all of the complaints in the world won't fix it. As for the reviewers being paid off that's a load of bullshit. If they are being paid off for this game's high score then that means they are probably paid off for EVERY game they give a high score to. Or does it only count for games that you guys don't like?

Don't give me some BS line about how IGN or Gamespot or whoever else has these same companies advertising for them, that's been going on for decades now so why NOW are they just getting around to paying off these people to review the games nicely?

Get over it people, the game is made and has gotten some good reviews so far. If it continues to get good reviews you're just going to have to sulk in your own misery. If it gets bad reviews or mixed reviews that doesn't really help anything at all to be honest. It's not like the DMC franchise has a great history of nothing but FANTASTIC games in its' repertoire anyway.

Just give this game a chance despite the changes and have an open mind and you might just enjoy it even if it's NOTHING like the original games, again, what's so wrong with that? "IT should've been a new IP!" Well be quiet because it's not and this is what we have now so either get an open mind and play it or go buy the HD versions of the first 3 games and buy the 4th one for $9 at Gamestop and have fun.

Please explain how we disrespected them. All the fans have done is give NT feedback ever since the game was announced good and bad, and unfortunately most of it was negative. Even when NT we're asked legit questions, they would either have a rude response or try to dodge them the best way possible. And also I feel disrespected because NT came out and disrespected me with the line "We're doing this for ourselves." But early back in 2010 a lot of fans over reacted. I hated the new look of Dante and in general the game too. But some people went too far. Seriously take a look through his Twitter feed people have threatened to kill him or his family, threats of assault or constant harassment it's all there on his Twitter.

Do people not remember the reaction when the Devil May Cry franchise that used to be exclusive to the Playstation systems was announced coming to the Xbox 360? There were a bunch of emotions over that too. The fact is some people don't know how to conduct themselves in a mature and reasonable manner and make all gamers look bad. So unless the development team actually said something directly to you and hurt your precious feelings then I say let the game speak for itself. I don't know about you but I'd rather have that scenario any day of the week than some anonymous goofball hiding behind his anonymity making all of us look like ungrateful children. I never took the comments from the development team to heart because they were never directly addressed to me.

As a game alone its fine enough, it could of even been a new IP to compete in the likes of DMC and Bayonetta (Fear of Risk on New IP's In This Age). Though I firmly believe this game is DMC in name only, if you take away key individuals that made a game series great (the person in this case is Capcom, now left with only an advisory position) then its no longer the style and appeal that people identified with it is now an identity that is being interpreted by an outsider.

Reviewers will not be like gamers and view this game as part of a franchise, it will be more then likely be played and reviewed by someone who hasn't even played DMC1 or DMC3 it will be reviewed as a singularity.

I never said that gamers do not assist in the final product. This is where beta testing comes from. I also never said that gamers being picky about the game is a bad thing. This is not a shocker at all, everyone has been telling the DMC fans to shut up and that they don't understand their game franchise.

It did not need a reboot, and certainly not this one. Art aside the gameplay fails to live up to what DMC has become known for. And Tameem has been vicious towards the fansbase, and I understand there are radicals against the game, just screaming and not making any points just to be heard.

Though there are allot of us who tried for years to discuss out concerns nicely, and try to get people to see our side and guess what we get told? "It's just the hair" over and over.

The gameplay is flawed, Style meter is broken (single attack to SSS, and it never drops) the art is not DMC, everything is different and reads like a 13 year old's script. More mature? No, not with all the cussing and just general immaturity.

I don't think NT has done good by DMC, and I hope this is their only endeavor into the franchise. That said, I hope they take what Capcom taught them and make a great new I.P with it, they just don't need Tameem to be the only writer, or PR guy. And they need to get away from DMC.

Along with poor combat in general... it seems like they didn't bother with those important parts because it will sell just because it's called DMC (despite offending much of the hardcore fanbase, that always happens with capcom games yet many fans still buy them). Ninja Theory are a good developer though.

its funny to indeed see such praise while the most important part are listed as cons , but whatever ... reviews arent going to turn people revulsed by the game as fans , nor going to repell those already interested .

Enslaved was one of the highest rated game last year , yet no one cared . It's a pyrrhic and small minded victory to rely on those scores

For the back story F'up angel/devil thing alone I'd slap a 60% on this game. For its sluggish framerate I would take 10% off that. The game is a highly polished generic turd, yet the people reviewing it are probably not true DMC fans to judge this one based on past iterations.

Gosh, how dumb are these pro DmC fans? All initial reviews are to be taken with a grain of salt. Remember Driver 3? 9/10 on psm2, remember too human? 9/10 on OXM, remember Hitman, 9s also. These first reviews are nothing but BS, not to mention, hardly credible. Not to mention, DMC2 got many good reviews initially from magazines. Its when Gs and Ign posted the review, everyone was in shock and awe. Dnt forget both GS and IGN had positive previews for DMC2, i mean, who in their right mind will give a bad one? Bad business move, so its no surprise DmC is getting positive press.

No doubt it's a good game though. I just don't like the way they need the franchise name to be able to sell, that is what causes problems in the fanbase. If it was essentially the same but not called DMC, the studio would go bust.

Well, most critics out there still defend the Mass Effect ending even after Bioware themselves told everyone the endings were shit....

So of course the fans and critics will be torn with this game.

I personally don't care what the score for this game will be. Capcom is dead to me so even if the did the right thing and made DMC4 minus Nemo/emo/Nero like everyone wanted, I still wouldn't buy it.

Why the hell does everyone want this game to fail? DMC is one of my favourite games of all time, DMC2 sucked, 3 was good and 4 was ok. I loved the demo and this series needed a reboot to be honest, hopefully this is it.

I still say its not DMC people don't seem to realize that when you take key individuals away from a game franchise it begins to have an identity crisis (Resident Evil being a good example).

Though the people who aren't there in this case is Capcom where they are left in an advisory position for the game.

The franchise itself has now turned more towards the tastes of the western world versus the tastes of the eastern world. So with this point being said it will not be anything in appearance and gameplay like DMC 1,2,3, and 4. It's a completely different game that's just using names that people can identify with since game companies and the world in general is afraid of taking risks on something new.

I will end this by saying people also hate since the world "reboot" to a dedicated franchise like DMC or Castlevania is pretty much a bitch slap to the face and basically telling them, "The story you once loved and cherished is now swept under a rug never to see the light of day again, instead of continuing on with that story that you loved so much we'll give you a new story and never bring up the old story ever again."

People continued to buy the DMC games because there was a formula that persisted and evolved with each franchise. For this game the formula is being interpreted by an outsider, there was simply no need for that. Saying goes, "Don't fix what isn't broken."

Uhh...no, that's exactly NOT what they're saying. The reality is that they're at a cross-roads with the series and what is made obvious in a reboot such as this is the following...

CAPCOM took Dante just as far as they could. We saw the birth of the character, we saw his horrible stumble (DMC2), we saw him resurrected brilliantly (DMC3), and we saw him in a support role (DMC4)...which served as something of a milestone for CAPCOM in which they had hoped to pass the torch onto the idea, and I can't stress that enough, the IDEA that Dante has run his course in his current story-arc and someone new could step in. Think of DMC4 as something of a test.

It most certainly isn't a slap to the face, though "fans" may think it is, but more likely a salvation for the character that you loved. Look, they went in a new direction with a radical change in the hands of an external developer. Personally, I absolutely love the changes, but the risk was certainly posed in both options. Had they brought out a new DMC with the same old Dante, the expectations would have been through the roof. You simply cannot please everyone and, in this case, the minority of ignorant fans who refuse to accept this change...well...they speak the loudest. It's unfortunate because it makes us all look like a bunch of bickering non-progressive fools!

DmC really has brought out the worst in people and it shames me to call myself one of these "gamers" when some simply can't deal with change.

People are so hell-bent on calling foul on Ninja Theory's approach with the series when the reality is, we've only had 2 really great Devil May Cry games in its run, the first, and Devil May Cry 3. Furthermore, the biggest objections when this project was initially revealed were overly critical remarks on Dante's appearance. It's a reboot...and such, the main protagonist is given a new look.

I've been a fan since the first released on the PS2 well over a decade ago. I've been there for the ups, the downs, the return to formula (in part 3), and our first taste of change in 4 with a new lead in Nero (an attempt by Capcom to freshen the franchise with a character far too similar to Dante in appearance).

The bottom line? DmC is NOT a bad game. These "fans" or whatever they want to believe themselves to be, are so determined to speak ill of a game they refuse to acknowledge as superior, or even of the same level of their beloved franchise.

These same "fans" wish to boycott not only the developer, but the publisher because they simply cannot deal with change to their franchise. They're all too pig-headed stubborn to just up and ignore the release, or give it a fair shot.

I hate to say it, but for all of the hatred surrounding this release, there's going to be ample more love mirrored in the reviews of not only industry heads among the media, but also those gamers that simply appreciate a good story, a solid gameplay mechanic, while remaining true to the spirit of the franchise with or without the old visage of Dante at the lead.

I applauded Capcom for giving the project to Ninja Theory, and I applauded NT for the radical change in Dante. I've played the game numerous times over the last couple of years, and at various events, & I can honestly say I don't understand all of this hate. It's a solid game, and while I'm reflecting, so too have all of Ninja Theory's previous releases; Enslaved, Heavenly Sword, Kung Fu Chaos (as Just Add Monsters).
