Original Gamer: "I'm not impressed with Playstaton All-Stars, it's that simple. It's a game that didn't have a lot going for it outside of its cross-universe cast, and that really begins to show after four or five hours. Yes, it's great that Sweet Tooth gets to fight Sly Cooper, but that shouldn't be what holds a game together. You could create a fighting game with characters no one has ever seen before and it would be great so long as it was fun. That's the thing. Sony All-Stars isn't fun. It's a giant fan-service for people who have supported Sony for the last 15 years, and that's about it."
While Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale didn't get the best review, there are still some aspects of the game that deserve some credit.
Though PlayStation All Stars Battle Royale is a bit of a cult classic, it could have been a big hit if it launched in 2022 instead of 2012.
It wouldn't have mattered, Sony would've rushed it out and left it to die. More so now than before with their focus now being on SP narrative driven AAA games.
Oh, but somehow Smash Bros. 64 made it work?
It just couldn’t compete with Smash Bros. and it wasn’t a free-to-play game like Multiversus.
I think it released at the right time. It's just after the success of Smash and Multiversus, it's finally time for a sequel.
I'd be all in on a remake or remaster of the original. I enjoyed it because I didn't sit there and compare every aspect to SSB. I just enjoyed it as it was.
Sony should make part 2 and dump a good amount of money on it. Scrap super only kills and it's bound to succeed.
God of War: Ragnarok has plenty of fun references to PlayStation history, but now fans have discovered a conversation that calls back to PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale — the crossover fighting game released for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita.
That’s interesting. It actually does make it canon lol. He mentioned it in a mainline game. I’d say that’s pretty cool.
I don't agree with the score, but I'm sure he wouldn't agree with mine. When you add a negative because a character is missing, it just means you were just looking for something bad to say about the game. Having them in the game wouldn't change how the game played. If Spyro and Crash where Sony's IPS, then we could've said otherwise or if they were still in the hands of the developers that created them, then again, we could've say otherwise. He should've complained about 2 Coles and not the lack of a Non Sony IP.
Since this review is later than the others, you may have received the latest patch, which adds Medusa's Gaze/head. That Gaze is a big game changer if you are losing and "The Fish" grants the user more AP, which makes gaining your level 1-3 supers faster and sends the character hit flying. Almost every item in the game makes a difference and can change how the match ends and there are a few that don't.
I didn't have problems with the MP when I started. I saw people higher than me, and I still won. I learn how to use the characters and made the best of it. Just because you don't know how to use a character, that doesn't make the MP a "Fickle Mistress." I think they said they were going to change it though, so I guess people didn't like how it.
Why didn't the writer complain about the story for each character or how they meet up? Or a mention of the boss? Maybe he likes those things. It is the writer's opinion and I can't change that. I can't wait to see the writer's SSBU review.
At the end of the day, I don't think PSASBR was a fan service, but a game that is going to help promote some future game that some of the characters are going to be in or a game in the franchise the character is came from. I still enjoyed it and I can't wait for the DLC.
ya ok..
Godchild, I'd have to disagree. This game was definitely a fan service. For years, going back into the Gaming Advisory Panel and PS Forums gamers have been asking for this game. No whether or not that was truly the reason behind finally making such a game only Sony knows. But I wouldn't be so quick to say it wasn't a fan service.
As for the game itself. I have no intention to buy it or play it. Amazon was kind enough to give me a dl code for the Vita when I bought the Assassins Creed bundle Black Friday. The past week I've been toying around with PS All Stars and it's, to say the least, a very solid game. "4.0 Way Below Average" it definitely is NOT. As you pointed out, Story, etc, definitely some areas to complain about. At the end of the day it's a fun game, the formula works well considering the variety of characters and coming from a non believer, it's a solid game that's been fun to play. At the very least deserving of an Average Score. It still amazes just how pathetic reviews/reviewers can be.
I haven't met a gamer yet who didn't like it, oddly enough.
Game is awesome.spent heaps of hours so far on it, and will spend heaps more when kat and emmet arrive soon.the game isn't perfect but it's fun as hell
