New Video Game System Silently Released Last Week

If you thought we were done with new consoles in 2012 then you would be wrong! A new video game console was released last week that I’m sure many of you have fond memories of with its precursor.

The price is just the first of this system's many problems. Even for collectors/enthusiasts this is a tough sell.

Let me exemplify with the opinion of a long time Neo Geo fan, someone who really knows the system from inside and outside (literally - he's the one who repaired the Neo Geo arcade board for Classic Game Room's Youtube channel):

I saw the video, it reminds me of the NES and the updated top loader version and the quality difference. After watching this I'd get one if it was under $30 - if that.

Knows his Neo hardware but I had to inform him there are a few with strange audio/video issues. Mine is a 337 model and apparently there are other units with a different firmware such as 350 and 370.

Lukes complaints are not and should not be taken as the rule of thumb for everyone. The unit is not junk. It isn't for everyone but its too easy for someone who is having issues should take it up with the company to get one that works properly instead of resorting to calling it junk.

There is potential in the hardware. It seems it is more capable than led to believe. The hacking community will have this thing cracked to run other emus or apps. Its no psvita but then again....it isn't trying to be.

can already play most of the games on psp/vita/ps3 so whats the point unless you are a collector?

Exactly, you can emulate the games on a 90$ PSP, why on earth would you go for a 200$ handheld?

The same reason I can emulate a majority of games on PC but choose to buy the system the game was made for.

The only reason this might be news to some, is the simple fact that there isn't a lot to say about it. Sure it's cool, but the price vastly outweighs any of that. Additionally, I've yet to hear news of more titles coming, nor has there really been any news past the preorder bonus, so it's not shocking to be in the dark.

Either or, down voted for the deceptive title... since I rather not see a new article every time a flash back or Chinese console releases.

From what i've seen on youtube the console is a shotty emulation and it's controllers are bad, which is a shame. I wanted one.

It's an emu, they're hacking in to it as we speak. Much better to buy a PSP and mod it with an Emu, as you'll be doing that to that soon anyway because their emu sucks. They're also going to fix the video output by scaling it correctly.

April 2013 for market and just available now for developers. I'll be picking it up just for emulation purposes, then the games that they will produce.

this is definately a dumb move if they aren't planning to release new games for it... not to mention you can get the most popular neo-geo titles on live arcade and psn... as well as the free emulation that everyone has mentioned...I think their strategy is to place it next to the other hanhelds in the store and hope that uninformed consumers see it as NEW and buy it for their kid.

The reason I haven't gotten the system is that the SNK collections that have been released have had many of these games. If they throw on KoF2001, KoF 1998 and King of the Monsters 2, then I'll grab one. Until then it's too costly and too limited for me.

That system is an emulator, on top of that. It also has a bunch of other emus on it too.
