GameInformer 2012 Shooter Of The Year Awards

GameInformer- With premier titles like Halo 4 and Borderlands 2 garnering headlines and the revenue juggernaut Call of Duty dominating the sales charts once again, the shooter genre turned in an impressive 2012. Naysayers view the category as lacking innovation or surprises, but nobody predicted the open-world greatness of Far Cry 3 or that the narrative of Spec Ops: The Line would stick with you long after you turned off the game. Which games stood out the most?

Good to see an Xbox exclusive win best graphics of the year.

Well deserved.

Im not a big fan of shooters, i play them now and again and go thru a faze where i'll play BF3 nonstop for a few weeks and then not for a year. I just lose interest too quickly.

But ive never come across a shooter that is as much fun and refreshing as Borderlands, especially BL2 which im playing now. Its just a blast to play.

Far Cry 3 is a beautiful game too, literally (PC), plus its great fun, although the protagonist is probably the worst ive played as.

I have to agree with the list... Halo 4 is amazing, and I've never been a big Halo fan. It looks great, plays brilliant and is just all around great. The other nominees and winners are excellent as well. Surprised CoD isn't represented at all. Haters be damned, I enjoyed BlOps 2. Now I'm waiting for Battlefield 4 and a new Killzone... my two favorite FPS's.

Incredible story.

all the games in the above list are bang on. this is the only reason we need backwards compatibility and physical presense of games for the upcoming future, no matter what.

Honorable mention to the excellent Driveclub, one of the best racing games of all-time and one of my favourite games ever.

melons61d ago

yes! incredible rain effects; so good to drive along in rain with your Spotify playlist blaring

Skuletor61d ago

I really wanted a MotorStorm using the same engine, Driveclub is easily one of the best looking games on PS4 and I'm surprised they didn't even give it a PS4 Pro patch.

ravens5260d ago

Yes indeed. May just install it on my PS5. You know, physical copy and all.

monkey60260d ago

I adored Driveclub and the Bike expansion. I also loved Motorstorm. Evolution shutting down was a crime

Outrun Online Arcade, Sega Rally Online Arcade, After Burner Climax... all good stuff. I keep my 360 hooked up to play these as well as the TMNT games that were also delisted.

Skuletor61d ago

Terry_B60d ago (Edited 60d ago )
