Top 10 PlayStation Vita Games of 2012

GameDynamo - "Reports of the PS Vita's death were greatly exaggerated. Like the PSP before it, the PlayStation Vita got off to a sluggish start and failed to unseat Nintendo's handheld dominance, but it gradually carved out a niche and developed its own loyal fanbase.

Though the price tag remains a sticking point for many, a continually expanding library of downloadable games makes the Vita more lucrative with each PSN update. Here are ten of the greatest Vita games so far (limited to the ones I actually played, hence the omission of Persona 4: Golden)."

I agree with the list for the most part. The Vita has a varied amount of games and so far there is one top game, in each genre, that has come to the Vita and I expect that to expand in the coming years.

My list would vary, but not by much. I recently started playing Unit 13 and played a little bit Hastune Miku project Diva F and I think those games deserve a space on that list or at least an honorable mention. With some notable other recently released titles that has graced the Vita, as digital only titles.

Sharingan_no_Kakashi4135d ago (Edited 4135d ago )

Persona 4 wasn't on the list either. I haven't played it yet but it's been getting plenty 10's. Prolly gonna buy it tomorrow.

Edit:

O.o... Shhh... do you hear that?.... sounds like a disagree fairy!

xursz4135d ago

Persona 4G is something special.. that is, if you're into jrpg's. If not, here's my personal top 10:

- LittleBigPlanet PSVita
- Gravity Rush
- Uncharted Golden Abyss
- Rayman Origins
- Sound Shapes
- Super Stardust Delta
- Assassin's Creed Liberation
- Wipeout 2048
- Need For Speed Most Wanted
- Unit 13

Godchild10204135d ago (Edited 4135d ago )

I feel ashamed of myself for missing Persona 4: Golden. I haven't started it yet, I can't be drown in another RPG yet. Still playing Tale Of Graces F and Legend of Dragoon (Didn't beat it the first time).

As for Shinobido 2, I had it, but I didn't play it much. I bought it at launch and played it once. I'm hoping to see it on sale next week through the holiday essentials sale. If not, I will pick it up during the slow drought, that we call the summer.

MmaFan-Qc4135d ago

my personal list as a day one ps vita owner:

10-Uncharted Golden Abyss
9-Touch My Katamari(aww yeah, TOUCH IT!)
8-GravityRush
7-SoundShape
6-Ragnarock Odyssey
5-LBP:PsVita
4-SuperStardustDelta
3-DJMAX:Technika Tune
2-Lumines:Electronic Symphony
1-Persona4:Golden

Knushwood Butt4135d ago

Yeah, I recently started playing Unit 13 and feel that game was criminally overlooked.

Pretty much everything I've encountered so far has been positive. The online co-op works very well and is a lot of fun too.

Nice challenge too. I've only unlocked the second assassination mission and it's tough. So much so that I gave up in order to level up a bit more. Those shotgun dudes that seem to respawn in the basement are nails..

Only possible downside is maybe the number of locations / environments is a bit limited.

Godchild10204135d ago

I bought it when it first came out, but overlooked it, because it was a launch title. I ended up getting rid of it, like I did most of the launch titles, because I wasn't playing them.

If the title (And a few others)came out later, maybe a few months after the launch, I think Zipper Interactive (R.I.P) would still be open today and it would have sold better too. Even though it's a Third Person shooter, it's a lot better than the First Person Shooters that we have for the System to date. Also maybe a 4V4 online component would've helped as well.

I was happy to see it one sale on the PSN and jumped to give it ago again and happy that I did. It is pretty challenging, but I like the fact that it has that trail and error aspect to it.

I did notice that they reuse locations, but the enemies are a bit smarter and/or the missions are usually longer, then the previous one.

Knushwood Butt4133d ago

Totally agree about the timing of the release and Zipper. I think they came in for a lot of unnecessary stick. I realize Socom 4 didn't please everyone, but the online co-op in that was a blast too.

Well, I finally beat that second assassination mission, but it was not easy.

Anyway, hit me up if you want to play some co-op. I'll PM you my PSN ID.

Sharingan_no_Kakashi4135d ago

Am I the only person on the whole planet that played Shinobido 2?..... and liked it?

izumo_lee4135d ago

Shinobido 2 would have been great if they added a level creator like previous games in the franchise. It was a good game but was a little bit of a missed opportunity.

Anyways on topic. Gravity Rush was a fantistic game that uses the Vita's functions brilliantly. Persona 4 Golden is well Persona 4, a legendary game made even much more so legendary.

The Vita had spectacular games this year, those folks blinded by fanboyism are the ones that are missing out. It may not have a system seller (yet) but that doesn't mean there are no games for it.

tachy0n4135d ago

Fantastic list!

Gravity Rush #1!! :D

Enemy4135d ago

Persona 4: Golden, Gravity Rush, and Sound Shapes should be in the top 3, with P4: Golden at #1.

Hicken4134d ago

I really, REALLY wanna put Gravity Rush at #1, but P4G is just so damn good!

KangarooSam4135d ago

So many great games this year. If anyone comments saying "I thought vita had no games" (looking at you, Mika) then you know what to do.

Most Offensive Video Games That Would Never Cut It Today

Times are changing, and these games would have never been made in today's climate.

wealthofgeeks.com
thorstein36d ago (Edited 36d ago )

Every single time someone uses this phrase whether it's music, movies, books, comics, video games, etc it's always the same claim.

The ubiquitous "they" won't allow it to be made. And every decade these claims are made the claimant completely ignores all the "offensive" material that is published when the claim is made.

In ten years, you can write a new article about how you can't make games like Helldivers 2, Resident Evil VIII, Mortal Kombat I, Dragon's Dogma 2, Alan Wake 2 etc etc etc any more.

MrBaskerville35d ago

Yeah, people wouldn't be constantly outraged if there weren't games that people found enraging. The whole SBI discourse shit wouldn't be a thing if all games were inoffensive. A game like Starfield can make a guy froth at his mouth, so there will always be room for a list like this.

0hMyGandhi34d ago

Normally, I'd be inclined to agree with you, but there are massive caveats.
TV shows like Venture Bros, Ren and Stimpy, and Aqua Team wouldn't/couldn't be made today. Hell, Ren and Stimpy was a *children's* show, same thing with Rocko's Modern Life.

It's not for some arbitrary reason, either. It's branding and IP alignment. Companies are far more risk-averse than they were when I was kid in the 90's. Of course, you have companies coming out of the woodwork to hell spur on similar content, but remember: Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon and some incredibly provocative material.

And for movies? it's pretty obvious. American Pie/Wedding Crashers/Eurotrip among many other "raunch coms" have fallen out of style, and are absolutely outside what the modern day film industry is willing to stand by.
Ace Ventura 1 and 2, Dumb and Dumber, Freddy Got Fingered, Rat Race, Harold and Kumar, and Van Wilder follow suit.

Remember: I am not explicitly talking about films put onto streamers. I am talking wide-releases in actual theaters. Same thing goes for games: Carmageddon, Duke Nukem, Manhunt, Six Days In Fallujah (with their original concept), Hatred, and so on and so forth. Of course, I'd be inclined to mention most tactical shooters like Rainbow Six and Joint Ops as well, due to cultural sensitivity regarding *who* you are shooting and why.

And not all of it is bad (obviously). Tastes change, and perspectives change to fit the demographic.
I should add that I'm a lefty, living in L.A. Working in film.

thorstein34d ago

The Boys, Invincible, Jojo Rabbit, Deadpool, Gen V, Last of Us, Banshee... There are plenty of media being made today that people will claim "can't be made today".

Profchaos34d ago

Yeah but if you consider manhunt which was basically a snuff film could you seriously make that game with high than PS2 era graphics.

thorstein34d ago

The Outlast Trials just came out.

But the storyline of Manhunt was that you were executed. But then lived. And if you didn't do as you were told, you'd die. And the people you killed were not innocents.

It was all filmed by a psychopath.

As we speak GTA VI is being finished up for a release. You get to play a Bonnie and Clyde type of protagonist who run up against the law.

Bodycam looks so real.

People are making those games. Articles like this will always exist no matter how incorrect they are, no matter how many times they blame "them" for whatever it is "they" do to prevent "those" games from being made.

Number1TailzFan35d ago

The UK is the biggest junk country pandering to that nonsense as well, with laws against free speech and expression to match. It got so bad even Rowan Atkinson made a video on free speech about it.

Now the UK raises the age rating on harmless films like Mary Poppins, it's just a load of pansy weak ass nonsense.

MrDead35d ago (Edited 35d ago )

The right wing Tories have been in power in the UK for the 14 years you know the ones that are "anti-woke", blame them for your perceptions.

Killer2020UK35d ago (Edited 35d ago )

Are these snowflakes in the room with us now?

This is more faux outrage designed to get hits. The consequences are unfortunately creating hysteria amongst those willing to buy into it and blame "them" or "the left" or "liberals" meanwhile the left are kicking off about genocide, actual real world abhorrent acts. Nobody is campaigning to censor this shit.

Huey_My_D_Long34d ago

Not too mention the fact that some of these game are controversial for you know, underage porn and encouraging rape.

So either the guy just came in to comment snowflakes without reading anything, or he is calling people snowflakes for having a problem with said titles. Crazy how much brain rot someone can have.

banger8835d ago

Dead Island: "The early PC version of the zombie game swapped the playable character Purna’s Gender Wars skill with a prototype name, which shouldn’t be mentioned directly. The skill name made fun of both Purna as a character and feminists."

"Feminist Whore" lmao

gold_drake35d ago

ill add one more to the list.
drakengard 1.

its ridiculous tho, especially since they'd still be able to find their place in alot of places in the world. except america of course ha. and maybe Australia.

ppl are so sensitive these days. ha. but it is what it is.

Barlos35d ago (Edited 35d ago )

They're not offensive.

And we need another Fat Princess. Fantastic little game!

Some people just have no sense of humour if this sort of thing offends them. They need to lighten up and stop taking themselves so seriously.

Deeeeznuuuts35d ago

Would love a new fat princess game 🤟

CantThinkOfAUsername35d ago

Games literally about sexual assault, mass genocide, bombing civilians, and school shooting. None of which is satirical.

isarai35d ago

Actually it's about fat princesses

Huey_My_D_Long34d ago (Edited 34d ago )

Its crazy that people are fixated on Fat princess when clearly the list is going over controversies, and not all of them are equal. Like way worse examples but pretend the entire list is like that.

Forget Gravity Rush movie, give us another GR game!

porkChop105d ago

I didn't even know a movie was coming. If they can get the visuals and everything right I'll watch it.

Barlos105d ago

I didn't either, until this article. I'm also surprised, since GR was a commercial flop. Seems weird that they'd want to invest money into making it into a film.

I think the games are great though, especially on Vita. I think the move to PS4 killed the experience a little, but I'd still like to see a new one.

1Victor105d ago

I didn’t know it was in development ether but it makes sense after they saw the first doctor strange movie and the far from home fight, if it’s like that’s it’s going to be one of those Oscar nominees

Cacabunga104d ago

GR movie and shutting Japan Studio.. so stupid

porkChop104d ago

@Cacabunga

Oh yeah... Well there goes any hope for a new game. Shuttering Japan Studio was a really bad decision.

purple101105d ago

Surely you’d think if the movie is coming so is another game

And I couldn’t be happier.

Only played the demo of gr2 but let me say it’s one of the most artistic and inventive new games. Ps5 will power gr3 to new heights
Fingers crossed

Made my day hearing this.

Finally, something innovative

Redemption-64105d ago

GR2 flopped, which would they make a new game? A movie has more appeal and a successful hit at the bix office, could lead to a new game for the franchise

ChasterMies105d ago

Ok, I’ll stop sitting on Gravity Rush 2. It’s been in my library for only 8 years.

Chocoburger105d ago

Play Gravity Rush Remastered first if you haven't already, the stories are linked together. GR 2 is a fantastic game, it has a lot of stuff to see and do. In fact I have purposefully not completed the game 100% because I simply didn't want the game to end. I still have some trophies to collect, and a whole free story DLC chapter to play through.

Gravity Rush 3 would be amazing! But the team that made parts 1 and 2 were shut down, so I don't expect it to happen. This was Jim Ryan's biggest sin of all, shutting down PlayStation Japan Studios. What a shame.

FinalFantasyFanatic105d ago

Why not both? I really like the games and was disappointed we didn't get a third game to finish off the story, but I wouldn't mind a movie either if it's well done. Maybe it'll drum up enough interest to get us that third game.

gold_drake105d ago

damn that is aaalot of ppl

id rather have another Gravity Rush game than a movie tbh

DarXyde105d ago

Same. This series really resonates with my gaming spirit. I love these games so much that I got four platinums out of two games. I was always dreading that we would never get another game after Japan Studio's closure, but I'm feeling hopeful in them not giving up on the franchise with this move. My guess is that they're going to use this as a funding point

MrNinosan105d ago

That is the same amount as daily loading screens... never mind
