The Most WTF Ending Of 2012 [eGamer]

Quote: "While it’s not usually kosher to reward a game for having a strange or bizarre ending, what we can at least do is draw attention to those games of this year which had endings that just left us all sitting there going, “…… What the fuck?” And so the Most WTF Ending award was created, so that we might discuss these games and explain why they were noteworthy. If anything, it’s a means of showing you which developers dared to do things differently, and how they managed to do so.

Keep in mind that because we are discussing endings, there is a minor spoiler warning attached, so you might wish to skip ahead if you don’t want a certain game’s ending spoiled for you. With that, let’s get underway. "

#1 ME3, #2 AC3. Assassins creed can still redeem themselves with a dlc that explains things better

theWB274138d ago

Assassins Creed 3 disappointed me ALOT more than ME3 did. It wasn't even an ending...it made me feel like all the AC has just been a prelude and the real story hasnt even begun. Lot of time invested for just that..

Both AC and AC2 had bad endings. I was expecting an ending like Revelations which actually made sense and made you feel emotional seeing Ezio retire. But Connor was not an interesting or likeable character.

I'm sure the AC title of 2013 will explain things.

I hate how most people think, that fans hate the ME3 ending because it has deus ex machina. That's not the issue alone. (in fact, the deus ex machina was foreshadowed in the game earlier, so it shouldn't be called that) The issue is what this child says, because it simplifies the reapers' motive and unmystifies them in a cheap way, and it makes the narrative incoherent in the process as it tries to reveal the artistic message of the trilogy, but choosing the wrong theme.

*SPOILERS*

Not only that, but the whole war assets thing was for nothing; not to mention the plot holes.

Biggest reason people play Mass Effect. CHARACTERS
The Reapers came second
The ending to Me3 had basically no closure for the characters, and its focus on the Reapers might have have been OK but that sucked too. The ending failed, and people had a right to be upset (but they went to far I think, but Bioware did lie to us about what the ending would be like so they did deserve criticism for it). I enjoyed EC cuz of its focus on characters, wish it was better but I can live with the ending now and appreciate Bioware making it.

And yet despite the focus on reapers they still managed to tell us bollock all about them and their origins. Which i was really looking forward to.

Flawed game but still a great one.

George Lucas didn't wait until ROTJ to introduce the Emperor. The Emperor is mentioned by name (title) in the first half of ANH.

You could make the case that the entire plot of ME3 was a deus ex machina for the trilogy. Strip away the sub plots and that's what you get, a series of contrived plot devices ending with a literal deus ex machina.

I agree with your point 100%, I'm just arguing semantics.

The thing about the ending is that it wasn't like they presented a bold, unique, artistic vision and bit off more than they could chew. It was painfully unoriginal and lacked even a basic resolution of the trilogy. ME2 had a much simpler ending yet gave the illusion of complexity and felt very original. Which is why I totally expected ME3 to end in a similar way.

You know, at this point, I think it's just a bit silly to point out bad game endings. Because, well, "bad" is the new normal. I got to thinking the other day, since 2005 or so, how many games have I played that had genuinely good endings?

I've got three. Ghost Trick, Catherine and Valkyria Chronicles. Everything else has been either average underwhelming at best, or just terrible.

Can't say it was unexpected but I enjoyed Jouney's ending.

Spec Ops The Line actually has an excellent story and excellent endings. It's by far the most surprising game for me in 2012.

aLucidMind4137d ago

Just because something is expected or considered "normal" does not make it, nor does it mean it should be, acceptable.

Mass effect 3. Our choices made in 3 games not having any impact in the outcome of the trilogy left me with a sour taste in my mouth. The only choice that mattered was the one that we made 5 minutes before that plothole riddled ending. € 210 and well over 100 hours down the drain.

Good choice of nominees, Spec Ops ending was mind blowing. Made me wonder bout the fragility of life :C

Sixty Four review - ChristCenteredGamer

CCG writes - "If you enjoy games like Factorio, Sixty Four is worth checking out. The asking price of $5.99 is very reasonable. On the title screen you can import/export your Base64 encrypted save file. This is handy to know if you want to make any edits. Otherwise you can enjoy picking up where you left off with the Steam cloud support."
