I have to say, while I understand the concept of the business model and that it gets more people to play, I still don't see how it can match the prior model of paying $60 per title. I play a ton of free games on iOS and I've never wanted to pay for the extra stuff.

Of every single F2P game i'v ever played from Battlefield heroes and Battlefield play 4 free, to Planet Side 2 and Hakwen and other games, I Have NEVER purchased anything.

In my opinion the F2P games are fun for a bit and then they get boring. That's why I don't invest in them. Why invest in something that will be boring?

And the reason it's boring is because you start with limited items (be it weapons or characters or other things) and it makes the game feel dull.

That, or they are pay 2 win.

I rather pay a one time $60 price tag for Grand Theft Auto that has lot's of content than get it free and then have to pay real money to spray paint your car when the cop's are after you...

If only FFXIV followed this model... I still hope it will end up doing it when it hits the ps3.

I am fine if they also offer a fully priced version that allows you to bypass ads and grinding in free to play games.

I would rather pay for the game full price and not have to grind or watch ads.

Planetside 2 is the perfect example of F2P done right. Yes, some would say that you get advantages if you pay but I have not noticed an unplayable difference. I still have a positive K/D (the BF lover in me hates even saying those words) without paying a single penny. They even had a "buy StationCash and earn 3x the cash" special today. You can earn everything (non-cosmetic) in game through Certs. Yes, certs take a long time but it makes buying that "Forward Grip" on my Merc (For The NC!!) that much more pleasurable. This game will last me a LONG TIME!

They sold the entire company. I did like when they ran Everquest as well. But numbers were declining unfortunately
