As the audience for the games industry broadens to include people from all backgrounds, the number of female gamers is rising and the need to represent them is crucial. As females have not always been addressed in an appropriate way in the games industry, the Daily Reaction crew of Sebastian and Dan use today’s ‘12 days of Christmas’ carol – Nine ladies dancing – to talk about their favorite female protagonists.
Based on one narratively fitting ending in Mass Effect 3, Prothean squadmate Javik is highly unlikely to return in the next Mass Effect game.
He was one of my least favorite characters. I wish they would have done the Proths different.
Tomb Raider I, II, III Remastered is available now on PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. Lara Croft is back in a classic remaster of the original PlayStation 1 hit title. Is the remaster any good though?
We've gone on many adventures with Lara Croft. With another reboot in the making, Wealth of Geeks felt it was a good time to go down the nostalgia rabbit hole and remember the best of those tomb-raiding thrills.
For me, Legend should be alot higher (along with the other two ). Shadow, I enjoyed it, but has too much has fluff, as modern games tend to do. Playing the remastered series, and apart from the controls, is very good.
I really enjoyed the first 2 games, Legend and the first of the reboots and the rest I didn’t get into so I never finished.
Completely subjective list. I really liked Underworld, I preferred Lara's design. That said I loved the horror/uncharted feel of the reboot. I think all the TR games have strengths and weaknesses. None are objectively better in every way.
My fav female protagonist has to be Chell... but that's mainly because Portal rocks.
But yeah, Chell in the rain = win.
I think Madison from Heavy Rain was actually a more realistic representation of a female character that was more human than most protagonists.
AC3: Liberation did a good job of portraying 2 strong female characters.
Anything that is not like Samus in Metroid Other M is a perfectly good start.
A good female character doesn't even have to be physically powerful to be likeable. For anyone who's into animation, look into Disney renaissance Princess characters. They weren't always a part of the action and fighting, but they were still strong characters who helped drive the story forward.
A character of ANY gender who meets a trial and tries to face it (whether they succeed or fail) with an interesting personality can win an audience over.
