Maxis explains the use of SimCity always-online DRM

Today, Maxis frontwoman and senior VP Lucy Bradshaw has stepped in in an attempt to clear the air. In a statement on simcity.com, she touches on EA’s design motivations and technical reasons for implementing an always-online requirement in all SimCity modes, emphasizing that the game “was designed to be connected from the ground up

I will not buy any game from any company that has an always online component, DRM or not. After buying a Need for Speed game and the servers were already shutdown and I couldn’t play LAN, no thanks! I only want a optional online component. Origin is a good enough DRM, which I have plenty of games on already.

Always online connection because of multiplayer? Just admit its DRM.

We'll see how long that lasts.

Need for Speed as well. Here's to hope that the new one will be a return to form for the franchise.

Dead Space was the worst ruining... micro transactions in a full price game, with co op that was mandatory to get all the story and access to certain areas. Sure Rock Band was oversaturated, and Burnout was basically killed off even though it sold a ton on PS3 back in the day.

indysurfn2429d ago

Wow kudos EA! no one can kill a franchisee like you can kill a franchises.

lptmg2429d ago

Sadly, Rock Band died because of Activision shoving one Guitar Hero every 3 months
