Kotaku - What Happens When A SNES Controller Is Eaten By A Wii U Controller

Kotaku - A few months back, I gasped in horror at the sight of a third-party Wii U pad that, from the hideous photoshop promotional image, looked to be a sin against everything Nintendo held dear about controllers.

Well, for the past week I've been using the thing. It's called the Controller Pro U. Combining the functionality of a Wii Remote with that of a Wii Classic Controller in the one device, there's not much hideous about it. In the flesh, it looks a lot better than it did in that mock-up.

It says it works with Wii games. Can this work with games like Twilight Princes/Skyward Sword o Super Mario Galaxy?

stragomccloud4143d ago

It would only work with games that previously supported the classic controller. So none of the games you've listed would be compatible. That said, I couldn't imagine playing Skyward Sword with a traditional controller anyway.

Wouldn't mind trying this controller out either. Could be optimized for an even better feel. The Snes controller really laid out the foundation to how controllers should be. Than Sony helped move that design along. Heck I wouldn't mind if Sony and Nintendo used the same controller since they helped one another get the design to where it's at now. Two sticks, d pad, 4 face buttons and so on. But props to even the older controllers out there non the less, they played a part as well in defining a gaming controller.

I wonder why the Wii U Pro Controller cannot work with VC games at all. I am hoping that is something they can address with a future patch. I have a classic controller so I can use that, but I would much rather use my Wii U Pro Controller instead. That's what I love so much about this 3rd party one, although the author did say that he had trouble getting it to work as a Wii U Pro Controller..

I personally found it really cool that this thing can double as a Wii remote (or so I read). That's a pretty interesting upgrade over the standard Pro controller.

I need this controller ASAP! How can you play wii games is the question? i they're all motion games.

I think it's better to leave games like AC: Amiibo Festival and Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash forgotten on the Wii U. Best case, they are mediocre games; worse case, they are very bad. It was a dark time for the Wii U, and the first only exists to sell Amiibo cards, whereas the second was put together in a couple of months with a shoestring budget, and it shows.

The rest of the list does have some really cool games, though. I would love to see a remake of Star Fox Zero with decent controls, and Xenoblade X doesn't require that much modification to work.

How would XCX work without dual screens functionality?

Cacabunga3d ago

Same as Paper Mario color splash. One of the best wiiu games and getting even better with dual screen. Same reason why i prefer Splatoon 1

This article leaves out Nintendo's most controversial game to date devils Third.
I personally found the cover system really fun in that one compared to at the time most fps games completely lacking one.

Stevonidas3d ago

Devil's Third is HIGHLY underrated.

They should remake Starfox to the switch 2. Very beautiful game during gamecube days.

Kirby is always ignored or forgotten by people, so good to see it mentioned here.
Play Kirby Canvas Curse on DS, and then play Rainbow Curse on Wii U, they're really fun and unique 'platformers' without any actual jumping.
