Writer on BioShock Infinite Describes Gameplay Possibilities as “Endless” in a Big Open Area

Most story focused games follow a strictly linear approach to the world, and the combat that resides within. For such a narrative heavy game like BioShock Infinite, many would assume this trend would be followed, but apparently things are a little more open than we may be expecting. Irrational Games writer, Drew Holmes, spoke with the PlayStation Blogcast, about just how open ended the combat in BioShock Infinite is:

Put the hype machine into overdrive! Get ready to be disappointed.

I_am_Batman4149d ago (Edited 4149d ago )

I wouldn't say it that drastic but you have a point there. The hype for Bioshock Infinite is already very high and with statements like that it'll go through the roof. Game press will keep a close eye on every little detail because the expectations are very high. Revievers could put any little thing they don't like into a negative and scores could suffer from that. I don't really care about review scores that much but i know some people do.

Overhype is never a good thing that's for sure.

DigitalRaptor4149d ago (Edited 4149d ago )

Press seem more than impressed so far based on the 2.5 hour demo they've been allowed to play through. It doesn't mean the whole game will be as good (I'm sure it will) but it's a good sign.

(Spoiler warning)

Get hype!

DigitalAnalog4149d ago

What on earth are you talking about? They're only claiming that there gameplay is a lot more emergent than normal corridor "shooters". Whether you find this overhyped or not does not change that fact.

adorie4148d ago

I want this game so bad, this and The Last of Us.

rbailey4149d ago

The original BioShock is a classic and this is Ken Levine's follow up to that game. Therefore, I don't see how anyone could think this game will be disappointing.

Gazondaily4149d ago

Well, whilst we can be assured by Levine's track record, I think gamers have become more clued up when believing developers who start touting terms like "endless possibilities" and similar bold statements.

I have high hopes for the game and it looks set to be amazing but I won't let the hype machine sweep me off my senses. But hey, if this does achieve these 'endless possibilities", I sure won't be complaining.

I don't think this game will disappoint me but saying Endless possibilities is just ... talk

"And lastly, famous Boston Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling helped to create the action-RPG’s setting. What’s really fascinating, though, is that the game was partially financed by taxpayers from Rhode Island (which allegedly lost the state millions of dollars). Yikes!"

1. Now infamous Schilling
2. No allegedly, it did. And they couldn't pay it back.
3. What really lost the money wasn't the SP release but the MMO they were working on. This was supposed to be an introduction into the MMO world.

Soy273d ago

I hate counting limited editions for these lists. I mean, they're made to be rare and expensive. It's far more interesting to hear about the NCAAs (even if most people know that one already) and the El Chavos than some massive hit that came with a $200 statue at retail.

gamerz273d ago

Me too. Here's the best I can do:

El Chavo Kart $90.14
NCAA Football 14 $87.72
Spiderman: Edge of Time $75.94
Spiderman Web of Shadows $75.09
Spiderman: Shattered Dimensions $67.76

Christopher272d ago

Wow, El Chavo Kart is not at all what I expected by the name. 100% looks like a Sackboy Kart game.

Soy272d ago

It's so odd that so many Spider-Man games are seemingly given lower print runs, even if they're not the best games.

jznrpg273d ago (Edited 273d ago )

Most Xbox games don’t hold as much value compared to other systems. Kameo, Blue Dragon, Last Remnant , and a handful or 2 of other games that I kept.

Fallout 3 and Bioshock Infinite are the rarest games of all time.

8 Best Games Set In A Multiverse

One of the biggest TV and movie tropes in the last decade has been the multiverse, the idea of exploring multiple dimensions to uncover alternate versions of existing ideas. From both a business and creative perspective, it makes sense why established franchises are shaking things up in this way.

However, there aren't many video games latching on to this trend, as rendering multiple worlds in real-time is a difficult feat and the medium is relatively young in comparison to its contemporaries, making crossover opportunities more difficult. Still, there are a few great titles that manage enough to overcome these challenges, and here are some of the best examples.

While I love someone mentioning Planescape, not really multiverse. Planes and dimensions, yes. But, they are typically their own locations and are very rarely tied to another 'verse' let alone another plane. The only things that are directly tied are the ethereal and material planes. Otherwise, they are dimensions created of their own design and goals by the creator/owner and not comprised of 'their own version of another dimension'.
