Anyways there are added benefits to how chat is handled on Xbox Live. That is one can play with a friend, chat during the game, stop playing that game and put in something else while still talking. Or how about this, get a request while within dashboard (or playing a game) to play X game, once the request is honored, voice chat is now enabled even before the game is loaded and off you go while still being totally connected.

Not ever! Substitute some of the best exclusives ever made for a feature I'd rarely use. PS3 > 360 everyday of the year.

I don't even use Steam chat on PC. Haven't people heard of Skype? :D

sure, ive also heard of ventrilo, viber, messenger, yahoo etc etc.....have fun constantly installing new software because something new suddenly becomes popular among your friends/ new friends. Oh and by the way your solution requires a 100$ phone or pc anyway + space on your table + extra power socket.

Yeah...X-game chat is soooo awesome! I love playing a game, then talking to someone else playing another game. I also love watching a movie and chatting with people playing games! I hate playing a game and not being able to talk to people playing another game. I hate watching netflix and not being able to talk to people playing their games. I need to be connected via voice 24/7! It's soooo important to me!!

When I take a shit I like to call friends cause I hate doing things and not having someone talk to me at the same time.

We should shut up about it because it will NOT happen on PS3. The RAM needed for the feature is allocated for other things, so the ONLY way to have a cross game chat system on PS3 is if the game developers (ALL OF THEM) free up RAM use and each game has a cross chat system built into it. Sony will have the feature next gen, but not this gen. Plus no one was even talking about this anymore until this stupid article came up. Sony have addressed this issue, and gave the answer I gave above.

I like that there are differences between the consoles, it makes every company have to work harder to get consumer support. Should we complain every chance we get that XBL users don't have a Home type place where gaming events are streamed and contests are held in the virtual world?

Personally I'm in a game, don't need you talking to me while I'm playing. You want to talk to me? Message me, or I dunno, use a cell phone. Let alone it creates ghosting, which I hate. When you play a game where you don't respawn, people keep talking to each other when they die.

I thought we had. I don't think cross-game chat has been a serious issue in 2012. Most PS3 owners have accepted that it won't happen and 360 fans have got bored of using it for point scoring.

Cross game chat is the single most important feature of this console generation! Without it every game on consoles without it suddenly sucks and is flawed. Consoles with CGC will have the same game flaws overlooked by fans and reviewers.

It isn't as important as some make it out to be, but it is pretty high up on the list of features that I love about this gen. People just need to accept that all console can do other things that the other can't. I thought people got over it now.

I use cross game chat/party chat constantly. It's the most used feature I use. The 2nd is the unified game invite system which pretty much goes hand in hand with cross game chat. I would be playing a game and talk to a fellow NHL league player at the same time. Then accept a game invite from him when my game was done, which I would tell him through party chat or he could just hit the xbox button and see under my profile. I just accept the game invite, pop the game in and it takes me right to the lobby.

PSN doesn't have that feature.

It's features like that which will always be my place to play online gaming.

I also find it funny that it's a Pro-Sony site complaining about cross game chat and how it doesn't mean that much. It means a lot as it's a MAJOR feature that competitive / casual gamers use constantly.

That makes absolutely no sense at all. If playing games is a feature then naturally the main feature of all consoles is playing games. Your reply is a redundant reply.

As for cross game chat, it only a minor feature for you, but is a major feature to anyone that actually likes to be apart of a community while playing. Maybe you are a casual single player only person so you have no need to be apart of a community. Maybe it's because the ps3 doesn't come with a mic so you don't have the tools anyways to be able to use such a feature.

Either way, you clearly haven't used the feature to understand how much of a great feature it is. Especially when your buddy just want to chat with you to see what you are up too and if you wanna play someone else all done whiteout you having to pause the game to txt each other or pick up the phone assuming your buddy isn't long distance like say another country....

I use it all the time. It's easily the best feature on any online service. The best part of the party system is the ability to have great online play without all the anger/hate. Let's face it, their are a lot of childish remarks in online gaming. I never have to deal with any of that because of party chat. I know of friends who switched from ps3 to 360 just for the party chat feature. It's perfect for teamwork chatting without having some tool screaming or talking nonsense.

Another great feature is when I play with my cousins who live far and we play Skyrim together or a different game. We chat it up about random things or about the game while we play. Just awesome!

This article proves that the jealousy is strong from the other side. :)

This site should just stick what they do best and give high reviews to average exclusives.

Just out of curiosity, how old are you? Once I turned 18, 13 years ago, I kinda grew out of the need to constantly chat with anyone...

Why is it people keep playing it down? It is an important feature, FACT.
It will not happen this gen, so people should get over it. It doesn't mean that you need to play it down every chance you get.

If Sony did a survey on whether the PS4 will support party chat, I'm sure it would be 99% in favour of it.

The feature seems very useful for the teenage crowd. I've had Live for a total of 5 years and never once used it. It's just not that important to me or any of my friends that are my age or older.

You see, when we are ready to group up and chat, it's usually about the game, objectives, campers, etc.

I'm not trying to chat with someone while stalking in Dishonered.

My question to the OP was legit. Older gamers are not interested in this feature. While being able to group up and decide on a game is cool, it's largely unnecessary.

It will be interesting next generation as Sony might have cross game chat for free as they do with Vita. We will see if that was the true thing missing or if XBL really is a greater online service.

i just use my vita and hookup my ps3 headset to it and sit and chat to mates using vita but play on ps3 , good stuff

I could really care less about cross game chat....I barely use it on steam and when I do it's very quite sense we're both busy with our games XD
I find it easier sending a quick message during each respawn :3
