Wii U, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3: Which game machine should you give?

The Christmas holiday is nearly upon us and the gift of gaming is high on many a wish list. But when it comes to buying home gaming hardware for that special someone, making the right choice is more difficult than ever.

I_LOVE_MYSELF4149d ago (Edited 4149d ago )

Ideally, I would get someone a PS3 bundle and a year of PS+

That way not only am I getting the games included in the bundle, but for the price of 1 game I am getting monthly games for the person I am buying for.

A PS3 bundle and a PS+ subscription is the only way to go for me.

Sorry to sound so pro Sony because I certantly am not. It just sucks getting a console and having to purchase loads of games for it.

mr_kubrick4149d ago

So u give "free" Games to Christmas he gets taken away after a year because he dont want to pay for PS+? Nice!

A XBOX bundle and a year Gold Live is the only way to go for me.

I_LOVE_MYSELF4149d ago

So you give online play and the potential to watch youtube, netflix etc etc and it gets taken away after a year because they don't want to pay for GOLD?

Argument works both ways.

ABizzel14149d ago

I love how these sites compare all the consoles, and list a ton of features for Xbox 360 such as Netflix, Hulu +, etc..., but fail to say all those features and online gaming are on the other consoles as well.

That being said it depends on what your friends and family have.

But I would pick the PS3 first and then the Xbox 360 second.

PS3 has free online to play with friends, and a $50 PS+ subscription gets the person 16+ free games to play, not to mention all the free games to play in Home, Blu Ray, apps, and more. PS3 & PS+ and Christmas shopping is over.

Xbox 360 is great for similar reasons (DVD, apps), XBL, and cheaper price.

mr_kubrick4149d ago

Right. Argument goes both ways.
Your opinon isnt my opinon. All I was saying.

Difference on N4G is
PS3 -> AGREES
XBOX -> DISAGREES

Year after year the 360 sells better on Christmas than the PS3. So I guess at least im not alone with my opinon although this here is PS3-Winterwonderland.

Gimmemorebubblez4149d ago

I could never do that.... I would keep it for myself.
No just joking, it would be the best option.

Qrphe4149d ago

A PS3 bundle, which with only be having one game would already outdo an Xbox bundle with a year of Live, would be of even more value with a year of PS+.

Plus it has games coming out next year, PS3 is of most value right now, objectively speaking.

They don't mention the 3Ds or Vita.

sandman2244149d ago

That's a tough one. I'd say go with the wii u. I do own all three consoles and I play my wii u the least. But ps3 and 360 are going to be replaced with there successor. That's why I say wii u

Belking4149d ago

Maybe wii-u since its the new thing. After that it would probably be xbox360.

XboxInnovation4149d ago

Stay away from PSFreeze, it's a rinky dink console. Their apps freeze, games freeze and so does ps home, plus its all laggy as hell. The console was built inside joe blows garage.

Dracoon854149d ago

Right....because the Xbox 360 never had issues like just not turning on for no reason.

I do believe that the red ring of death plagued the gaming world from launch to a couple years ago.

Let's be fair next comment, huh?

I never got around to mass effect - I’m skeptical that it would hold up if I were to try it now

Furesis6h ago

I would say it does. The combat is a bit shit for todays standards but everything else is great.

It's worth a play through today.

El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron - Coming Back for a New Generation

Originally launched in 2011, El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron is coming to Nintendo Switch, so It's time to look back at the original.

Still have my ps3 copies. Bought it at launch and another one when I found it cheap and in perfect condition about 10 years ago. I wouldn’t buy it on Switch but if they made a PS5 version I would. I still have one of my PS3 Fats hooked up so good to go either way.

darthv721d 1h ago

Id play it again on the switch. I wished my 360 version was bc but this is still a good way to play.

Fallout 3's Reveal Led To Death Threats And Bethesda's First Security Guard

The artist behind Fallout 4’s Deathclaw reveals just how bad things got back when Bethesda took over the series

anast1d 3h ago

People are stupid I get it. No one should feel unsafe,

But I think they need to talk about why they cut so many corners during the development process and why none of their games ever look current. And why they think all of this is okay while they charge full price.

LucasRuinedChildhood1d 2h ago

As much as Bethesda deserve criticism, that's not really relevant to the reveal of Fallout 3 in 2007.

VenomUK23h ago

The default angle Kotaku always go for is to highlight the worst in gaming.

I would’ve focused on the creative.

anast5h ago

The game went downhill at Fallout 3's release. This is when they started to cut corners.

gold_drake22h ago

there is no "but". the hell lol
you dont send death threats, period.

anast5h ago

Usually, you have good comments but this isn't one of them. It just rides the mob. We can do both condemn the actions and not let them use it for other things.

I can say I received a death threat and everyone needs to shut up. People are not honest and will use horrible things to their advantage.

Armaggedon17h ago

Not all games “look” current.

anast5h ago

Their games always look like the gen before it.
